Why is this under rodeo cruelty, when you obviously weren't at a rodeo? I think those that believe rodeo is "cruel" need some education. Rodeo is run under STRICT HSUS guidelines. Therefore ANY obvious REAL cruelty to an animal in a rodeo is DEALT with accordingly. SHARK can suck a big one.

My horse had somthing kinda like that my horse was in the barn and she got hung up on a board and she ripped her armpit open 12 inches and had a bunch of stitches and a few days later she rolled and ripped the stitches out.

My gelding chased another gelding in such a rage, the poor little gelding crashed right through and over a chain link fence. My jerk of a gelding luckily didn't follow him down the street. After catching him, the little guy had this EXACT same injury in the exact same place. Good to hear she's better....

several years ago our horses were chased down by a white pony... and one of our horses since he was scared of any white animal freaked out and jumped the fence... Well that freaked out our other horses and they started to run back down to pasture. Well at this time we had a gate to lock them up in the upper paddock since they with and as they were headed back down to pasture my gelding Tater ran a pipe into his chest because my dad didn't have time to lock the gate and it bounced back open

o my gosh poor riley!!! that's horrible!!ewwie you should see my horse's back leg i went out side and i wanted to ride her then her back leg had a big gash in it like about three inch wide three inch tall and there was a big flap of skin hanging down i almost cried it was gross and scary.. i hope you horse gets better that is just horrid!

one of my friends had a horse that got spooked by a black bear and ran through a barbed wire fence and it cut her leg so bad the vet couldnt really do anything about it, when he got there he cut off her muscle from her shoulder down to her knee. all that was left was bone, it was pretty sad, the mare lived for many years after that, although she couldnt bend that leg. its amazing how horses can go on with injuries like this. i hope all went well with your horse!!

wow thank god for vets! dont feel bad my horse jumped a cowpantle fince and some how she injered her head and her neack. i wish we c ould do more for her but we couldnot she just wouldnot get up. i had to put her down and that was the last thing on my mind to do. i love her so much i had plans to become a pro show jumper. it looks like your horse pull through the injeries. i wish the greates luck for the both of you.

Bless you and the vet you finally found. I hope all is healed by know, and that there were no lasting negative effects of the injury. I assume a drain was stitched in to help manage the wound - those are a real life saver when dealing with such deep injuries! Take care!

i know how ou feel my barrel horse gashed her shoulder open and had to get 42 stiches and let me tell you the vet put enough seditive in her to put down a clysdale and she was pushing 3 of us it was a pain

Dang Im so sorry. My baby ran through our fence due to the neighbor throwing bottel rockets at him and had a nasty gash close to the same area it was not near as big but it scared the crap out of me. He healed great so I hope for the same outcome I had. Good Luck to the both of you.

omg! your poor horse! that kinda happened to my horse.... she got her leg caught on barbed wire and tore her leg open...my mom cared for it...and it healed perfectly...but slowly.... but there was a person not far from here with the same injury and everything in the same place and stuff...and they had theirs treated by a vet and its been almost 5 years and it hasnt healed...and ours healed in less than 2 years. i guess we were lucky. Hope your horse is better!

my horse tried to jump a six foot fence and she hit the top of it really hard and sliced her chest open really bad and her face and leg was torn down too the muscle it took 38 stiches on her chest and 12 on her leg and six on her face she was fine but about a week later my other horse kicked her and tore it open again and we had some internal bleeding issues but now she is back too normal but i can run her right!

She is perfectly fine. The vet was great. She took care of her so well, but she costed us a fortune. But thats okay. There is barley a mark there now. Ohh and for the story, she was eating out of the trees an got attacked by a shit load of bees. She wasnt paying attention because she was trying to get the bees away and crashed into this plow thing.

@derekHSmith That is a horrible thing to do to an animal that is injured. If it is possible to save an animal's life, than do it. If there is no other way to help it, then euthanize it. It is as simple as that. How would you like it if you were injured and you're family didn't feel like helping you or didn't want to pay the hospital bills, so they shot you. I'm sure that you would be really happy about that. So don't do it to animals. Thumbs up if you agree with me.

i've never seen Barbed Wire leave a gash that clean before. i think it looks like a boar or a knife wound. i have had horses in my area attacked by humans. some have been shot to death and a lot have been stabbed.

that looks like 1 of 2 things (both i have seen before) a boar, or barbed wire... i knew a horse who tried to jump a 10 foot BW fence and it sliced her teets off! and my baby got in a fight with a mama boar... the boar won... his gash looked similar to that.

The vet is wearing gloves but the other person isnt...how stupid. You stitch it up for it just to get an infection from your dirty hands. They may look clean but ask any doctor just how clean washing your hands makes them

I just got a new horse a few years back and was trail riding with friends when we had to go over s bridge, well under the bridge was a stake and my horse freaked on the bridge and she fell onto the stake and we could see her lung it was horrible we were out in the middle of no where so we couldnt take her out of her pain I had to watch her die...
