  • @mrspoobearbaby you are so lucky it's my dream to go to London

  • The clock strikes 11

  • É REALMENTE LINDOOOOOOO!

  • Cool Video!

  • 2 Minute silence folks!

  • I Want To Go There :'(

  • was london fun cuz im going in the summer

  • over 150 years running & still ticking , that is awesome. but most buildings below the age of 100 years , is considered new in england lol.

  • I hear them from around 1am from my flat lol

  • London is the coolest city ive been to thus far, such positive energy there with the people too

  • Big Ben keeps London on schedule.

  • @pennyf9 Except when those pesky ravens from the Tower of London sneak in and perch on the arm >:(

  • @Shadowfang3000 oh , those damn birds!

  • Apenas me gusta, porque no explica características sobre el Big Ben, sólo lo graba

  • Could Big Ben ever be used to play a song, a classical one maybe, to mark a special occasion ??

  • @Aqene1000 it's an automated system, it doesn't have bell-ringers, so probably it would be difficult, though concievably you could use it to play any song that requires only the notes present in its current song (since those are presumably the only bells in the tower)

  • I would love listening to Big Ben every day, never need an cheesy digital clock again!

  • Ahh.. gorgeous England =)

  • @leeorb1962 No really? Strange how I didn't know something as fecking obvious as that.

  • @ednuttah I think what he means is that the tower itself isn't Big Ben- big ben is specifically the name of the bell which tolls the hour; hence, the musical part isn't big ben, it's the westminster chimes.

  • @himynameishelen Redeemer by handel you mean.

  • I've always wanted to go to London and hear Big Ben. That would be an awesome experience!!!

  • i want to go to england one day

  • What is that tune called?

  • @DrJamesMartinMD

    Canada? This is England.

  • Were the chimes very loud from where you were sitting because they didn't sound very loud on the video?

  • Yes they are quite loud and you can hear them across the city. It's just that the video was taken on my mobile phone so that's why the sound is a little quiet!

There's also the problem of wind direction. I once stood across the street from the clock and couldn't hear the chimes, since they are lighter and the wind was blowing in the wrong direction. Big Ben can be heard no matter what.

  • No, if the wind is blowing in a different direction you can be very close and still not hear it, strange but true it's 100m high so the sound travels anywhere really , if your behind a building you can miss the chimes, but you can be on the opposite bank and hear it clearly if the wind blows your way. Strange but true.

  • who doesnt love big ben? i mean come we all know who he is lol

  • if that goes off every hour of every day how do u get to sleep at night i would leave london

  • @popcornspecial

It's simple. All you do is get a house thats really far away from the clock and if you really want to see it, you can drive there every day.

  • Cool. I have a mini verison of this chime at home. I Love it! Love it!!! I will be here one of these days!

  • cool!

  • wow!

  • Reminds me of the ITV evening news lol

  • a church next door has the same tune... :)

  • I havent been to Britain yet but i love it. I got to record the chimes, like the correct way this person did it. London Rules!

  • How many times does the clock usually bongs after the main chime?

  • After the main chime there is one bong for each hour.

  • one bong for each hour, sounds like my life, 420 smoke weed every day

  • Britain is cool beyond words...

  • You did a very good job of recording, being patient for a minute before and not talking through it, nor making any camera noise.

    .

Having the Westminster tune and eleven gongs; great.

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • @MarioOhlert

It's easy to be quiet while the clock is chiming because you can be so fascinated by it. I know I wouldn't talk if I was listening to Big Ben.

  • Very cool. Makes me wish we had a clock tower. Or something similar...

  • You can download a big ben clock tower on yahoo widgets, it chimes shows the right time and lights up at night.

  • @LexusAds

    Where do you live?

  • *_________*

    I LOVE LONDON!!!!

  • i dont

  • I love this city!

This is the City of James Bond 007!!!^^

Greetings from Kehl am Rhein, Germany.

    Michael

  • his name is Ben and he called the clock big Ben cuz he was a bit chubby!!

  • I'm an historian.. Thought you would like to know that the clock was made by a man called

Ben, his friends called him 'Big Ben' because of his dong..

  • what can i say he was british

  • so beautifull :')

  • Big Ben, the ben-ben*, the obelisk, the phallus of Osiris.

*Two B, or not Two B (for those who know)

  • I pass Big Ben every day for school! xD I love Big Ben so....glorious beyond discription!

  • That's very ominous. It's a spine chilling chime.

  • Apperently, when the bell for the tower was first built it smashed and only half the bell still remains intact and is used, which gives it a slighty shakey E note.

  • Yes, that's true. The Victorians being ones for splendour and glory wanted it to be as loud and as powerful as possible, but they went a bit over the top!

  • And in fact that the tower itself is called 'The Clock Tower'. Big Ben is the bell inside.

  • I lived in London for a year and the highlight was always venturing tothe Thames across the bridge and listening to this magnificent historical timepiece continue its place in history. Truly one of the 1000 things to see before you die!

  • my friend harry sais that it ONLY goes DONGGGGGGGGGGG.

    i wanna go to london:(

  • 11am and clouded like that? I really want to visit the historical London, it seems like it's always raining and very chilly right there, but I doubt there is ever any snow in the winter, maybe that's why Englishmen spend thair winters in Sweden, Switzerland or Finland

  • Eh? Not heard that one before. I know most Englishmen spend their winters at home! It does usually rain though, I can agree with that! It's because we live right in the middle of the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. I like the cold frosty mornings though.

  • oh man! I would love to experience those British frosty mornings, here in Mexico we get quite a few of those but only in the winter months and since I live in a hot dry area the winters are short but intense, but I want to experience that cold climate all year round and I know that in England I can get it maybe when I go visit I won't want to leave England's definetively the first country I would visit when I go to "Europear bastante" like we Mexicans say or "Jump the pond" like Americans say

  • It's great, at the moment it's been around 3 degrees Celsius, and recently we had nearly 2 inches of snow (about 5cm?) I love it!

  • Englishmen spend their winters in in Sweden or Finland! HA HA HA, thats news to me! Try spain or Portugal or anywhere warm, I know thats where Id'e rather be.

  • lol..its not always coudy here. we actually get lots of crisp clear frosty mornings and our summers can be brilliant. hot but with a cool breeze.

the weather in britain is actually perfect now i think about it..mild enough to be pleasant but rainy anough to let the flowers grow :)

  • i wanna vist london but i still need to raise monney for the plane................oh well next summer!!!

  • I would like to be there :(

  • what, maintaince? i was there 15:th-19:th of august and it was ticking.

  • Big Ben does not sound like that. I saw it on an episode of "Trading Spaces" and it sounded WAY different; it sounded like a typical church clock.

  • umm... it really does... maybe your episode messed it up?

  • Oh. I know it sounded like how it does in this clip on "The Great Mouse Detective," but I thought they just used a different clock sound in that movie

  • Your wrong. It Does Sound Like That. What Are You Going to believe the REAL LIFE ONE or a tv show.

  • I'll believe real life. Now I know that on Hanna-Barbera cartoons I've seen with Big Ben, it sounded exactly like the one in this clip

  • you dipstick

  • nice, you know its stopped chiming for 6 weeks now until september for maintanence

  • i wanna go someday..

  • It's so amazingly beautiful.. (L)

  • coooooooooollllllllll
