  • damn you guys are awesome. You make it look fun.

  • I wish yall would turn around so i can learn it the right way.

  • ahhh yes, i remember my first beer

  • You got the steps, but where's the SMILE, the STYLE, and the FUN? It looks like an exercise or a chore. Dance is about liberation of the SOUL,. Get HEP, Cats!

  • How to capture this song from this video: video2mp3

  • Whoa! First off, the Shim Sham was invented by a Black Native American named Leonard Reed. As a matter of he called it the "Goofus" in 1930. Dean Collins a jewish dude credited for bring the Lindy Hop to the west which is wrong. A brotha named Johny Peters did it 1910 in San Franciso and called it the Texas Tommy.

  • @djkaneck1 Dean brought Lindy Hop, not swing. There were many types of swing around the West Coast, no one denies that.

  • sweet, the guy on the right is like... gliding

  • this dance is great. i have started trying to learn it. ! ;)

  • That was great! I haven't tried it since I went to Camp Hollywood in 2001. I'll have to give it another shot after seeing this. Thanks for posting. :o)

  • The guy on the left is gettin it

  • very nice!

  • oh boys, you should pracktis more... you only do steps with feets and don't swing. you need to feel the music with your body at first.

  • You guys are adorable.

  • Ooh i luv old skool dancing!

  • Love it! :) It'd be nice to get that version of Shim Sham here at the WichitaSDS!

  • freaky,but cool--> i love it ;)

  • Great job !!!

    Work on the outfits please.

  • it would kinda help if you were wearing tap shoes (:

and if the kid with the glasses wasnt so out of control (:

  • Swing Dancing isn't about control, its about freedom, and fun. Also, this isn't a Tap Dance, it is a Swing Dance. No tap in swing.

  • Amen brother

  • It's right!! Shim sham in tap dance has little difference!!! Great job!!! :)

    Monia.

  • I can kinda see how this could be mistaken for tap dancing by an unknowledgeable viewer, which lifeOFeda obviously is.

  • @snoogleboogies swing is about fun but it looks a lot better if you control your muscle movements.

  • @snoogleboogies no, it is a tap dance. this is just a swing version of it, but it was originally a tap dance.

  • @snoogleboogies also, if its about freedom, why do the two people have no smiles and calculating expressions on their faces? its reminiscent of those mechanical like asians that play dance dance revolution, who go thru the motions like it is some kind of science and not actual music. and the jeans and the tennis shoes and the sloppy shit look killed everything that was special about this music and era.

  • @snoogleboogies - Oh how naive. The shim sham was a tap dance that performers did at the end of a show back in the 20's. It was later modified to make it more "swingy". In fact, almost all vernacular jazz movement is based off tap moves.

  • @snoogleboogies

lol, what's freedom without control? It's really the mastery to control your body while freeing your mind.

  • I like the kid with the glasses, it's boring without some big swingin' arm movement!

  • I'm looking forward to learning this version at a workshop in a couple of weeks, though how we're going to learn the whole thing in two hours, I have no idea.

  • What workshop is that Dana?

  • It's called the Blowout Lindy Weekend and it's in Pittsburgh this weekend. Kevin St. Laurent will be teaching this version of the shim sham.

  • Hah sweet, I'm actually coming down from Buffalo, NY for that. I didn't think there could be many workshops you were referring to :)

  • Ugh. I'm still not getting that evil move.

Hey, it was nice to meet you over the weekend. Hope you enjoyed the workshops.

  • Yea, it's killing me too, great workshop and weekend though.

  • very well done!!

  • nice!

  • omg, i luv this video, and the song...but i've looked EVERYWHERE for it...could u possibly tell me where you got ahold of it(the song)???

    id realy appreciate it..thanks!!! =)

  • Great dance, however, why aren't you guys a little less joyful than you are on the video? ;)

  • Tay loves this video, she's learned the whole thing!

  • I've started learning the DC shim sham and I notice you have a different kick-ball-change as well as the 5,6,7,8. (Mine seems watered-down)

Either way, I've had this saved forever and I really enjoy watching you guys! haha!

  • Everything old is new again. Great job!

  • I've been looking for the DC shim sham! Written instructions just don't cut it. I saw it once at a dance venue I was visiting, but no one seems to know about it here :-( This makes my night. You guys are awesome.

  • omg you guys are great. Seriously.

  • LMAO funiness

  • Hi, where can I get this song 'Hep & Happy' please?

  • If you google "Glen Gray & The Casa Loma Orchestra" you will find tons of info and cd's for this song. I hope that helps. :)

  • Unable to find so far anywhere, do you know which album it's from please?

  • I've tried to find it myself but I don't think this version exists on records. The closest I have found is "Two O'Clock Jump" by Harry James. He's got a slow version and a fast version of it. You may have to shop around for it.

  • i would look ten times crispier in a suit cuzzin,

    cut a rug

    flexy

  • Awesome, I love this kind of dance :)
