bettas dont always need heaters just keep it at room temperature

i live in australia and mine lives in 23 degrees celcius

and in about a 5 litre bowl

I do believe they are fine in 1 or 2 gallons tank, breeders have extraordinary fishes living in less than 1 gallon, and professionnal betta owners lovers said to me the water is good, the heat is OK, they have enough space to swim...

It's cruel to keep Bettas in anything less than 2.5 gallons and HEATED! I disagree with pretty much everything the IBC has to say about Betta care! Most of my Bettas live VERY happily in 5 gallon tanks and a couple with SBD issues have 2.5 gallons. Those 1/2 gallon plastic boxes should be banned!

agree with the 1/2 gallon tank, I have 1 gallon tank.

the heater I use is preset : 25°C, no more, no less. bettas have Riccia Fluitans in the tanks and make bubble nits in it, so they seem to be fine.

I agree that it is somewhat cruel to keep beautiful Bettas in small tanks or bowls. People that say that a large volume of water is unnecesary for bettas. My bettas all have at least a five gallon aquarium all to themselves and you can tell the difference in their moods from those poor mistreated fish that you find in display bowls. Not to mention if you want to successfully breed a betta splendens then you have much more success with a larger habitat.

All my tanks are heated to 78F/25C.

One gallon is better than the 1/2 gallon box but you should try to get something even bigger. You would be surprised at how much healthier and more colorful they become when they have more room to swim and play.

well, he died... 6 month ago... he was 2 years old... now I've got another Royal Blue veiltail (he's one y.o. now), I called him "Hokidachi" witch means "lonely tree" in Japanese.

The reason he is going up for water a lot is because his tank is not very well oxyginated.

id you stuck him in front of a mirror every few days then you can hardly say that there's no stress! Betta's do not enjoy fighting other fish.

mirror : just 1 or 2 minutes, you said "I suggest you research your facts before you parade them", but any Beta breader will say that the veils are longer and stronger thanks to the mirror. I talk every day with bettas breaders in forums.

Betta Splendens, like all fish was wild before people began breeding them in captivity and they do still swim in the wild.

I keep all my bettas in large tanks (not the size of a milk bottle) at least 20l and Bettas are actually fairly good swimmers, they do fine with a filter and there is more than one type of filter, not all of them circulate water.

well, Katburglarfish : first, a Betta Splendens is not a wild fish, he's got long veils and can't swim in a great filtered aquarium. Mine is not in a bowl, but in a 2 L. tank with a soft plastic plant for hiding when he's afraid, or for a rest. The Betta MUST go frequently on the surface to breath, so you must have a small aquarium. He can swim :it's a small fish and he's an adult, so he won't grow up unlike the Goldfishes tortured in a bowl !!!
