Every devotee witll go to the rack for his beliefs, yet all belief systems are contradictory. Even some pagans worship objects which they assign significance to, ye they believe in them. @DKzain23 Mutation is what made evolution possible. Some creature got a mutation, wich caused him to be better adapted to the enviroment. Thus he survived and others died, he gave his mutation to his "children". That's survival of the fittest.

@WouterNed We know for a fact that things evolve. The THEORY of Evolution tries to explain that fact. You are free to believe that a deity helped evolution along or whatever. Just know that such a belief carries no weight in the scientific community and is virtually unsupported by evidence (or reason for that matter).

@WouterNed Actually we do know (to the degree that we can "know" anything) that speciation occurs. Look up "ring species". When members are separated geologically, over time, they become so distantly related that they can no longer interbreed. We've demonstrated this under laboratory conditions with flies.

As if that weren't enough, we can also infer the fact of speciation through DNA sequencing, endogenous retroviruses, the obvious physiological changes apparent in the fossil record, etc, etc.

@WouterNed I'm surprised! Usually theists rigidly refuse to acknowledge their ignorance. It bears repeating, however, that evolution is a fact. Evolutionary THEORY attempts to explain the fact. There's an important distinction there. Also, Theories NEVER become Laws. That's another common misconception. Laws describe things; Theories explain them.
