Wow! Sir Max, my name is Erick Infantas. I'm a peruvian musician, pianist and percussionist and let me tell you, wow! You've done a great job in your independency techniques! Really! You totally got it! You got the flavor, cadence, the "sabor" that us, cajoneros, put when we play the festejo, especially with what you're doing in your snare. It's great! Are you in contact with Alex Acuna? I'm humbled to say that he's a good friend of mine and let me tell you, he'd be so happy and so proud of you!
Hey max. I really love this video, after getting into new orleans second line drumming in the past, I think getting into this music would be really helpful! Can you reccomend any accessable afro peruvian groups to listen to? I would love to see just a short explanation of the groove at 1:17!
@Bosphorus92 Thanks! Check out Arturo Zambo Cavero and Oscar Aviles, Susana Baca, Eva Ayllon , Lucilla Campos. All great singers and great music! Max
@Bosphorus92 Cool, It's hard to give a short explanation of that groove . But I'll try, In my right hand and left foot I'm playing the rhythms that are played on the cajon. In my right hand I'm playing the cowbell patterns played by another person. I will make some videos explaining all these rhythms on each individual percussion instrument and then applied to the drumset. Working on that now. Take care, Max
@dimsunk Thanks! That'd be great Max. I'm either going to be moving over to Montreal for the music programme in concordia in September, or in January. I'd love to get a few lessons in latin rhythms from you man!
i like all of your videos but i'm especially impressed by this one because it's a relatively less-accessable genre of music and you seem really comfortable playing in it without breaking outside of the style. Bravo
Ha!! So glad you knew what I was talking about! Thank you for the kind words. Likewise! I actually went to show your vid to Marko when he started laughing and typing that... So funky! Take care man! Maybe I'll be lucky enough to play with you, too one of these days..
@damianerskine Tell Egghead I'll crack him open and suck the life out of him and then I'll throw him in the garbage!!! I checked your vids out. Beautiful playing!!!! Say hi to the rotten egg for me. Max
I love your style choices and executions, Max. I really aspire to achieve that quality of sound from the minimal set-up. That's one of my favorite parts is that you needn't go over board with your kit. The skill shows through better with less.
Hey, cool man, very cool, PLEASE POST MORE VIDEOS, cool stuff MAX ROCKs. Buenisima musica LANDO PERUANO. Look for MIKI GONZALES he plays Afro Peruvian Rock.
I could listen to this all day... don't know anything about drums, but I absolutely love the variety of sound and rhythm. It sounds of energy and determination when I listen to it, thanks for sharing!
This is simply killer. Love those buzzes and all of the accents on the second partial of the triplet ... nice and greasy in-between feel, too! Thanks for sharing.
