Doug great vid. Cute kid. I talked to JPax yesterday and he tapped D-Lo for tickets for me to A.C. HOB. ...see you guys Saturday night. Can't wait to hear you live again.
Hey Doug, I'm so glad I found this video! Can you elaborate on how you use your pinky for pentatonics? I've noticed lots of pentatonic-style players seem to avoid it, and in this video you demonstrate the lick with your pinky but when you play fast you use your ring finger instead.
I like that Les Paul. and kids are the best thing ever. I think this is pretty common knowledge anymore. There was a lesson by EJ on it, showing the "5's" back in a guitar rag in the 90's. Even Joe Bonamassa likes to do it when he puts on his EJ cape. I'm just so tired of the descending 5 sound. EJ does a lot of cool ascending stuff ya know!
@stratthead I feel ya, man! Joe usually does 2's and 6's with his "EJ" runs. Easier than 5's. But when I get a gazillion bajillion emails asking about how to get into the EJ thang it sure makes it easier for me to direct them to this vid I made just for them, dontchya think? I dont wanna get carpel tunnel answering emails. Wont be able to show the ascending licks then...
@DougErapps Yes! 2, or 5 or 7's.. or whatever, all that really matters is ending on the low A and then hit the octave up. Instant EJ, or... Joe B. lol. It's ridiculous how much they do that.
@jamesbeth You're playing 5 notes against 4/4 so Its messing with your head like a poly rhythm. Play it slow, bro. Real slow. 8th notes @ 60 bpm. then speed up... Slowly! Good luck!
I also saw EJ back in his small club tours in the 80'S. Very cool and very quiet. He still invited us on his bus to talk....cool. But Doug E is definitely more my style and he freaks me out. Kick ass player and piss me off! Haha Now I'm copying some of his licks and thinking why didn't I do that :) And Doug please let me know when your in south Fl. PeAcE!
great, simple lesson -- even I can play this, mostly, sort of. I'm not a sweep picker though, so far...
I first saw EJ in a bar in Baton Rouge (close to LSU) back in probably 1984, before most anyone outside of the Austin environs knew about him. I was blown away as you can imagine. I kinda gave up trying to cop his style, other than learning a few songs from Ah Via Musicom via tab a long time ago, but this is very helpful. Thanks.
Doug ,saw you recently in calgary and, wow, just wanted to say how enjoyable your playing was . Thanks from my friends and i for that display of musicianship ,we were all throughly blown away.....and thanks for this lesson too
I'm a drummer ,but , thanks to great people i've had the pleasure to share the stage with,i'm comming along, on the guitar after like,10 years....Thanks again Doug!

This might an Eric Johnson influence, personnnaly i'll call it the Doug Rapps' flow.
After 20 years of practice as an amateur, i know zillions of players. But man, your picking, your note articulation, you're just flabbergasting.
Cheers from Paris France and please keep on posting.

First off, she is so cute.
Great playing! I love the fact that you shred on a Les Paul. Great tone too. Could you do a video going through your equipment, picks, strings, etc.?
