" We started talking about 40 yard dashes. Now we're talking about the ability to get off jams "
were not talking about the cfl, you dont get a running start. getting off jams effect your for time ( at least in the game) he took more than two snaps in the practice games
As a Bears fan, my biggest concern is if he can get off of a jam at the line of scrimmage. All of these plays shown here are great, but he's in high motion on most of them. That's not allowed in the NFL. Can he get open without a running start? That's the question.
ANY ONE WHO SAYS THIS GUY IS THE NEXT WES WELKER IS JUST RACIST. wes welker is 5'9 THIS GUY IS 6'4. JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE WHITE DOESN'T MEAN THEY PLAY THE SAME. welker is a possesion wide out who specializes in getting alot of catches for about 10 yards a catch because he's shorter he plays the inside part of the field. THIS GUY CHALLENGES THE DEEP SIDE OF THE FIELD CAUSE HE'S TALL and AVERAGES 15.9 yards a CATCH WHICH IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE. its LIKE COMPARING DANNY WOODHEAD TO RANDY MOSS.
based on this being a league of guys who aren't good enough or quick enough to make the NFL. BUT do not get me wrong im a Bears fan and would love him to prove me wrong but im just not sure he is the guy the Bears need right now.
@foch41 Not only is the football larger in the CFL, but slow? He ran a 4.71 40 yd dash when trying out for the Vikings. That's not slow. My guess is you're a Vikings or Packers fan who is REALLY hoping the Bears didn't pick up a great receiver. You're classless.
I like Fanutz. He's a sleeper. But he needs to develop as a route runner.
His speed is a negative in a tough nfc now loaded with top corners.
The eagles will have a pro bowl caliber corner covering 1st to 3rd options at the receiver.
That means speed and precision are a must. This team is a lot better with tons of young talent.
Fanutz, Sanzenbacher, the two young tight ends (along with kellen) Khalil bell, a lot of young hungry players on the Offense. Mike Martz should have fun.
@CK3890 4.71 is slow for a WR, every CB in the NFL is a half a second faster than him. ( two steps ) not only that.... he struggle with press jams, CB will stick him on the line, then out run him.
he said it himself watch?v=DEK0PP5Fvxs
the reason he was successful in the cfl is that there aren't any press jams and the field is much larger
@mrfwest Every corner back in the NFL does not run a 4.2 what the hell are you smoking? 4.7 is about average from the information I've gathered. Elite WRs run about 4.5, and 0.2 seconds isn't going to make that big a difference, especially if he was a slot reciever (which he would be best at with his hands and height).
I'm sure he does struggle with press jams, and I don't see why the field being larger would make him more successful if you think he's 'slow'. He could help us, that's all.
@CK3890 a bigger field spreads the offense. the defenders leave spaces open in the cfl because they cant cover all of it. a slot receiver has to be able to get pass the press. teams will always press him because he can't out run them there's no nfl WR 1st, 2nd, or 3rd running 4.5 (possession, deep, slot ) especially i he cant get pass the press
@mrfwest Spreads the offense? If a player switches from running vertically to horizontally, they slow down in the process. This gives defenders more time to keep up with the WR. You're helping my argument. And a slot reciever does not get jammed the way the flanker or split end does. A linebacker usually jams them once, and goes to his man or zone afterwards, very unlike CB jams. And no, since 1999 the best 40 time was 4.24 by Rondel Mendelez. CJ ran a 4.24 too. Stop making up statistics.
@CK3890 you have no idea what spread offense is. spread offense cause defender to back up from the line of scrimmage to prevent big gain. ( sometime 7- 10 yards ) the more spreed out the team is the farther back they have to play make it easier for players to run horizontal and catch a pass
2nd? 4.1- 4.5 was just an estimate. corner backs jam the WR in man to man. you still cant find any top 50 CB or WR running a 4.5
@mrfwest LOL you say I know nothing about the spread offense and then you said it 'cause defender to back up from teh line of scrimmage to prevent big gain'. First off, spread offense causes defenders to disguise their coverage because the spread offense makes identifying defenses much easier. They would jam or back up depending on the situation. Second off, all defenses are trying to prevent the 'big gain' and backing up will not at all guarantee that you will stop it.
@CK3890 first i said a " spread the offense not " spread offense " in the cfl the field boundaries is so wide couldn't defend all that space ( that's why they score so much )
@mrfwest First, you said spread offense. Twice. In consecutive sentences. Let me it quote it for you. "you have no idea what spread offense is. spread offense cause defender to back up from the line of scrimmage to prevent big gain." Seriously, let it go. You made up stats. I don't care that much. I just advise that you don't do it again to spare yourself the embarassment.
@mrfwest You said that it spreads the offense. Then you started talking about spread offense right after that. How could anyone not interpret that you were talking about spread offense the whole time? You can't cherry pick your quotes. You have to analyze them all to understand what you're saying. This is called reading comprehension. New to it?
@CK3890 you only see it as picking and choosing when it works for you... you ignored the similarities in all my comment and only paid attention to " spread offense "
@CK3890 im not changing. you said the preseason game aren't enough, so i gave you more. " Dressing and playing are two different things " not for players trying to make the cut.
@mrfwest We started talking about 40 yard dashes. Now we're talking about the ability to get off jams. That is just one of the many changes. I didn't say pre-season games aren't enough, I said he isn't playing enough in preseason games. He's taken two snaps from what I've seen. And dressing and playing are VERY MUCH two different things for players trying to make the cut LOL. Players who want to make it are not happy with just dressing, they want to play. Am I talking to a 10 year old?
@mrfwest LOL You're the one who cherry picked! You said it spreads the offense once, and spread offense twice. And I did not at all ignore similiarties, in fact, I addressed each and every statement you made. You know this, I know this and now you're stalling.
@mrfwest Yes you did, and I made your statement look very stupid. You're stalling to look for something that makes you 'right' because you obviously cannot take being wrong.
@CK3890 what statement? i said he cant handle the press... i had to keep giving you info because you would ecept he could handle the press or that the field is the reason he had a job in the cfl
@mrfwest Many statements. I never said that he could get off jams, I just said that he could still contribute to the Bears. Then you said he can't because he's too slow. I'm done here. We're beating a dead horse.
@CK3890 the first thing i said just in case you did want to quote that " a bigger field spreads the offense. the defenders leave spaces open in the cfl because they cant cover all of it. "
even in the other comments i said the same words like " back up to cover"
@mrfwest And what? "They have to play make it easier for players to run horizontal and catch a pass" Defenses have to make it easier? I think you know absolutely nothing about football after this comment... And your estimate was retarded. The fastest 40 ever was 4.06. Hines Ward and Anquan Boldin both ran a 4.71 40, and Darrelle Revis ran a 4.45. Just stop now. Save yourself the embarassment.
@mrfwest Roddy White ran a 4.45. Greg Jennings ran a 4.42. Chad Johnson (Ochocinco) ran a 4.54. Charles tillman 4.50. Brandon Marshall 4.57. Try looking things up instead of making up stats.
@mrfwest Fantuz hasn't played in teh NFL yet. What a dumb comment. And all those players DO get jammed. I was listing pretty much all flankers, except anquan boldin (though I think he might be a flanker in Baltimore now).
@mrfwest I'm a huge Bears fan and have been looking for him. He's taken two snaps, and caught one pass after beating a weak jam. Seriously man, you have lost this argument. Just walk away.
@foch41 The field is significantly larger in the CFL - 65 yards wide, 115 yards in length - which could be why he looks slow, that said, I'm sure he's not going to be the burner that Knox is, he has a great catching, blocking, and route running ability that I'm sure will be much appreciated on the Bear's team once the season gets underway.
no.... his real 40 yard dash time is 4.52 and ill put money on it that he tears it up in the nfl... the steelers did make an offer to fantuz but he signed with the bears because he KNOWS the bears need the big wide reciever.. .do ur research b4 u talk shit
@revolt4freedom4 he wont even make the team, he's slow and white, 4.52 was at the nfl combine in 2006, he runs a 4.79 which makes him fast enough to play defensive end.
@packr72 he's white? wat do u have to say about wes welker, Austin Collie, Jordy Nelson? and 4.52 isn't that bad AT ALL FOR A 6'4 WR . thats faster than mark ingram lol.
hes slow. he worked out for 5 teams before bears signed him. do you think that they saw something the others didnt? No! the Bears just are extremely weak at WR and decided to take a chance. I'll be surprised if he makes anything but the practice squad> Comparisons to Welker are ridiculous at best.
Earth to Jay Cutler. Get to know Andy Fantuz during the off-season. This guy has all the physical tools to be your go-to receiver_. Jay, I hope you get well and come back strong next season. Take Care Jay
Hate to be a downer, but I felt like I was watching a high school game (Albeit a big High School). This kid isn't going to be catching lob passes with corners and safetys who's 40-times are above 4.7. He's going to be TRYING to catch bullets from a REAL professional Qb and the DB's coming at him run in the 4.2's to 4.5's and are bigger, stronger, and can jump higher than anything this guy has ever seen! I like that he's big, but they can't be done with JUST him.
@gund2281 REAL QB's, have the Bears had one since McMahon? If given a REAL chance like many others before him that started in the CFL, Andy will have no trouble playing in the NFL.
@gund2281 You're acting like every defensive player in the NFL is a superstar. That is hardly the case. WR's in both leagues have the exact same job. Catch the Ball. If Fantuz can bring professionalism, determination, and talent with him over the border, he will have a decent career as a NFL wr. Ever hear of Jeff Garcia, Warren Moon, and Joe Theisman? All 3 started off their careers in Canada before becoming stars in the NFL.
@sportsfreak488 Again...you're disqualified. IF that were true, then the Bears' every college player should have NO trouble making it in the NFL. Put ANY defensive back from the NFL in the CFL...and he WOULD be one of the superstars. I'm not saying that CFL players CAN'T be successful or haven't been in the past. But the percentages for success are low. They need something closer to a sure thing and hope that they catch lightning with this kid.
@sportsfreak488 those guys you named also aren't receivers. You need more athleticism to be a successful WR. At QB, you need a brain and a decent arm.
@gund2281 Yes, very good. They are not receivers. I am just making the point that some football players from the CFL CAN compete with NFL players. Check out this video of him @ 3:23. I don't know about you, but that is a pretty athletic play by him.
dis might be cutlers new go to guy since knox cant seem to get opn anymore fo sum reason. hope he blows up he seems to be a goon on da field i guess we will see nxt season if he can keep up...
He's a big WR and that's what the Bears need, he's not the fastest but he's a good route runner and looks like he has good hands. He reminds me a little of former Bear's WR Tom Waddle
Well Jay Cutler loves throwing to a big receiver so when they put hester in the slot you're going to get some opportunities produce and this city will give you everything. Don't, and well it'll eat you alive.
Welcome to Chicago. Produce and you'll be loved/adored by the fans. Don't produce and you won't. Just don't be Cutler and produce and come across as apathetic. Anyways Welcome! DA BEARS!
He looks awesome. I want to know how his blocking is. How much does he help in the run game, or blocking down field for a fellow receiver? Of course, all this is moot unless Limas Sweed proves to be the bust I think he is...
@quincee33 Wallace is an absolute beast. He got a ton of yards after catch this year, effectively silencing any nay-sayers about him just being a deep threat/one-trick-pony. He has some long gains from bubble screens and short slants. He's developing nicely into a great blocker, and all around receiver.
we all know he would rather play for the Steelers. Could make for a decent redzone threat. 6'4 220 lbs. pretty good size, could even be a pass catching TE.
@lancer408 Fantuz's contract with the Riders runs through this season, I believe.
Contracts is contracts, and I don't think even those hosers from the Great White North would be dumb enough to let Fantuz go before the season ends. Hmmm...I don't even know if the CFL season is over or not, so I may just be talking out of my ass about this.
@lancer408 he's a very solid WR....and he had a tryout with Pittsburgh and Minny....under the CFL/NFL contract or agreement i should say...he has until march before he has to make up his mind...of coarse that's if he's offered a contract.... the league average in the CFL is $60,000 and the league minimum in the NFL is $325,000 i think, so he definately whud love a shot at the NFL, who wouldn't..... haven't heard the latest.
@hanselategretel yea berrian sucks, he needs to go along with madeiu williams, ray edwards, tyrell johnson, bryant mkinnie, basically the overpaid, underachieving guys on our squad... ray edwards is good, but its time for Robison to take the starting spot... plus we need to sign Rice, Greenway & Peterson to long term deals
@jstylz77 agree with all of that except for mckinnie because he's been actually playing much better this year. but something does need to be done about our o-line. and our stadium. which is embarrassing ala the collapsed roof. madieu is a shit face and needs to be fired.
Good to have Andy back in Riderville!!

well for a receiver 4.71 isn't exactly fast.
He looks a bit stiff to me, almost like hes lumbering. I like his jumping ability, catching the ball at its highest point.
Obviously has strength, good strong hands. With that said he'd probably be a better Tight end if he bulked up.

@beatmastert that loser Cutler? I hope you have some basis on that... I'd like to see you get smashed 56 times by huge defensive players
Cueil 1 year ago
@gund2281 You're acting like every defensive player in the NFL is a superstar. That is hardly the case. WR's in both leagues have the exact same job. Catch the Ball. If Fantuz can bring professionalism, determination, and talent with him over the border, he will have a decent career as a NFL wr. Ever hear of Jeff Garcia, Warren Moon, and Joe Theisman? All 3 started off their careers in Canada before becoming stars in the NFL.
sportsfreak488 1 year ago
@sportsfreak488 Again...you're disqualified. IF that were true, then the Bears' every college player should have NO trouble making it in the NFL. Put ANY defensive back from the NFL in the CFL...and he WOULD be one of the superstars. I'm not saying that CFL players CAN'T be successful or haven't been in the past. But the percentages for success are low. They need something closer to a sure thing and hope that they catch lightning with this kid.
gund2281 1 year ago
@sportsfreak488 those guys you named also aren't receivers. You need more athleticism to be a successful WR. At QB, you need a brain and a decent arm.
gund2281 1 year ago
@gund2281 Yes, very good. They are not receivers. I am just making the point that some football players from the CFL CAN compete with NFL players. Check out this video of him @ 3:23. I don't know about you, but that is a pretty athletic play by him.

this guy is good. He really fights for the ball. His hands are huge, and he has a really good vertical. Good pick up.
mattyeyoung2007 1 year ago
He look slower than molasses. We're going to need another wide-out.
LordBizarre112233 1 year ago
We better get a WR or ol with our first round pick to
1qmk 1 year ago
Nice pick up. Looks like he'll fight for the ball unlike knox.
jorgenchoi1 1 year ago
@jorgenchoi1 I agree so tired of knox thinking every pass is going to be on the money knox needs to get some ball skills
1qmk 1 year ago
@1qmk yea, the only time knox gets physical with a corner is when cutler underthrows him and he has to prevent the pick.
jorgenchoi1 1 year ago
@jorgenchoi1 11 of Cutler's 16 Interceptions were to knox. There is that pattern

Fantuz is going to be our hero. Go bears!!
thesweet1234 1 year ago
He's a big WR and that's what the Bears need, he's not the fastest but he's a good route runner and looks like he has good hands. He reminds me a little of former Bear's WR Tom Waddle
iceman32290 1 year ago
Hopefully he makes the bears roster and gives cutler a Solid reciever to depend on!
Welcome to chicago
killer8579 1 year ago
Well Jay Cutler loves throwing to a big receiver so when they put hester in the slot you're going to get some opportunities produce and this city will give you everything. Don't, and well it'll eat you alive.

Welcome to Chicago. Produce and you'll be loved/adored by the fans. Don't produce and you won't. Just don't be Cutler and produce and come across as apathetic. Anyways Welcome! DA BEARS!

dbault11 1 year ago 2
He looks awesome. I want to know how his blocking is. How much does he help in the run game, or blocking down field for a fellow receiver? Of course, all this is moot unless Limas Sweed proves to be the bust I think he is...
Your7Christ8Illusion 1 year ago
@Your7Christ8Illusion what are your thoughts on mike wallace? is he gonna be solid or just a speedster like quadry ismail was.....
quincee33 1 year ago
@quincee33 Wallace is an absolute beast. He got a ton of yards after catch this year, effectively silencing any nay-sayers about him just being a deep threat/one-trick-pony. He has some long gains from bubble screens and short slants. He's developing nicely into a great blocker, and all around receiver.
Your7Christ8Illusion 1 year ago
@Your7Christ8Illusion the best CFL Receiver is probably Ken Yon Rambo on Calgary. He played at Ohio State.
quincee33 1 year ago
we all know he would rather play for the Steelers. Could make for a decent redzone threat. 6'4 220 lbs. pretty good size, could even be a pass catching TE.
Asmitty56 1 year ago
@Asmitty56 I was reading up some news that he would go to the Steelers?? ?Would he be able to play this season??
lancer408 1 year ago
@lancer408 Fantuz's contract with the Riders runs through this season, I believe.
Contracts is contracts, and I don't think even those hosers from the Great White North would be dumb enough to let Fantuz go before the season ends. Hmmm...I don't even know if the CFL season is over or not, so I may just be talking out of my ass about this.
Your7Christ8Illusion 1 year ago
@lancer408 he's a very solid WR....and he had a tryout with Pittsburgh and Minny....under the CFL/NFL contract or agreement i should say...he has until march before he has to make up his mind...of coarse that's if he's offered a contract.... the league average in the CFL is $60,000 and the league minimum in the NFL is $325,000 i think, so he definately whud love a shot at the NFL, who wouldn't..... haven't heard the latest.
quincee33 1 year ago
we all know he would rather go to the Steelers. Could make for a decent redzone threat. 6'4 220. aint bad.
Asmitty56 1 year ago
@Asmitty56 Matt Spaeth is 6' 7", so we already have a stupidly tall TE.
Your7Christ8Illusion 1 year ago
hes working out for the vikings and steelers next week. not that excited (viking fan) but he can't be much worse than berrian
hanselategretel 1 year ago
@hanselategretel yea berrian sucks, he needs to go along with madeiu williams, ray edwards, tyrell johnson, bryant mkinnie, basically the overpaid, underachieving guys on our squad... ray edwards is good, but its time for Robison to take the starting spot... plus we need to sign Rice, Greenway & Peterson to long term deals
jstylz77 1 year ago
@jstylz77 agree with all of that except for mckinnie because he's been actually playing much better this year. but something does need to be done about our o-line. and our stadium. which is embarrassing ala the collapsed roof. madieu is a shit face and needs to be fired.
hanselategretel 1 year ago
This guy is working out for the Steelers this week. Looks pretty solid.
hjjones77 1 year ago
@hjjones77 working out with the Vikings next week. Wouldn't be bad to have him opposite of Rice. Now we just need a QB to get it to them.
ratskan 1 year ago
@hjjones77
If the Steelers sign him, I imagine he will compete against Limas Sweed for a spot next season.
