  • this is my favourite movie scene EVERRR!!!!!!

  • By the way this is cool magic we witness here cause for this magic from the dark sorcer Thulsa you do not need overrated special effects, as you can litteraly "feel" this magic forcing Conans Mother to surrender! Very epic and a very cool way of depicting magic way more realistically as using just special fx, at least from my point of view.

  • very emotional dramatic clip, and epic.

  • @nainhanif Yep, she protects her child like a lion, however knowing that she probably will not survive the day. Abso-fu**ing-lutely perfect! Those movies and such perfect score from Basil who owns Zimmerman or Williams are not made nowadays anymore ... what a shame!

  • Thulsa Doom was so above love, lust, and beauty .a woman as beautiful as her .you would think the most evil villian would spare her and make her a sex slave ..not Thulsa

  • sven ole thorsen rules! (The dude that looks like michael mckean in spinal tap)

  • Thulsa Doom wins, fatality.

  • conan mom is lilf

  • this lends credence to the history of caucasians inhabiting china before atilla the hunn over ran the area

  • who is the actress playing conan's mom? she's hot!

  • The Gift Of Fury

  • Does anyone know the music when hsi mother dies?

  • When he recovers from death later after he was bind on the tree,

he looks on his hand. Is it because he remembers his mother?

Because after his mother's dead he looks on his hand too.

  • @SchwarzerFrost1989

Never thought of it that way but the way I saw it was, he was practicing with his sword, then was thinking about what Doom said about flesh being stronger than steel.

  • @SchwarzerFrost1989

It has more to do with the fact that Thulsa Doom had just explained to him the Riddle of Steel. As he practiced his sword work he understood that flesh was stronger than steel.

  • Let alone that Conans score is one of the best if not the BEST ever in movie history as this movie had a master genius behind it regarding the movie score which was Basil Poledouris. A man that made music without MIXING or some special overlapping effects but just the old-school way as instrumental and a choir just like the old classical masters like Wagner or Bach! This is the HIGHEST level of music and NOTHING touches it and certainly NOT LOTR!

  • After all the middleage was really a very gruesome timeline of our existence as humans in RL as children were nothing more then cheap labour and had not really any rights whatsoever and Conan the Barbarian reflects this age very well even though being in a fantasy world from Robert E. Howards Hyboria. THIS is what touches at least MY heart and the music just leads to those feelings and this is how it SHOULD BE! LOTR just shows you a lot of CGI effects instead of those very feelings.

  • @HarryTruthman No it wasn't dont get so cocky.

  • Is it just me or does she look alittle like Angelina jolie?

  • The camera angles, the music and the background make everything feel so much more realistic without CGI effects and you can feel the pain of young Conan in his face right after he looses his mother and that he WILL take revenge upon the dark sorcer! WoW simply outstanding!

  • This movie shows multiple scenes from perfect camera angles that make the "army of doom/darkness ;)" come to life without CGI effects and with the perfect score of Basil Poledouris a man on the highest level of music creation which is on a level of Brahms or Wagner perfectionizes it in every heartbeat of any scene, especially those we are witnessing here with a mother protecting her child after the dark army raided their cimmerian village much like a lion protecting her young with her life.

  • This is pretty much reflected in the movies nowadays like the LOTR series or Harry Potter etc. . A sad world nowadays for good and really epicly and nearly "real" feeling fantasy movies.

  • In this very scene we can witness that true sword and sorcery does not need epic CGI effects pretty much like the LOTR series. You do not need thousands of animated orcs fighting thousands of humans etc. .

These few scenes alone in this part of the movie tell a story that is way ahead of anything nowadays without even touching any special effects, ... cause they are NEVER needed for a TOP movie.

However the screen writers of hollywood have forgotten how to work without CGI.

  • top10 scenes ever

  • @mOsherfr3ak69 hehehehehe nice one!!

  • Scenes like this are why this was the best fantasy film ever, and one of the most underrated films of all time. Very few films have had such character development with so few words. This was not a stupid Arnold action film.

It was epic because of what was going on, not over the top fake epic like the lord of the rings (films).

  • @slmrcs exactly

  • @0smiPotnik I second his exactly

  • @slmrcs Well said. The music, the mannerisms, actions and reactions of those characters gave us the complete, powerful foundation for the story. Not even words were needed. Today's passive-minded screen writers would have focused almost exclusively on the death-blow, and would have spent hours touching up the CGI to enhance the swing of the sword from different angles, and the gore of the strike. This writer focused on something much more horrifying - the trance, and the release of the hand.

  • @slmrcs Your not human if you speak of lord of the rings in such a way this was good but lord of the rings takes the cake it started ALL things fantasy and its not just mindless action it is a very long detailed story with character bonding and constant conflict that they must overcome through fellowship I really just can't believe that someone would ever type such a comment about the best fantasy story ever...

  • @inphasesith My comments where about the movies. The 1982 Conan was in my totally subjective opinion, far better than the lord of the rings films. As far as the books go, Lord of the Rings much better. LOTR did not start all things fantasy, an obvious example to point out is Conan, which at least in so far as publication date is older. LOTR did however, set a foundation for much of fantasy. In terms of "mindless action" the level of that in the LOTR films -esp the 2 towers, was staggering.

  • I would add, there is no scene in the entire LOTR movie trilogy, which is better than the above scene from 1982. I felt the LOTR films tried to hard to be epic, but come out way over the top. LOTR films where in my opinion literal adaptations of book, but very poor at catching the feel/mood/essence of the books. I know I'm in the minority with that. I think the LOTR films where something people wanted to like, and where just good enough for people to inflate in their minds how good they where.

  • @inphasesith I'm sorry buddy but I would agree with slmrcs as he is right regarding the movies. This movie is better then all three LOTR movies. It touches the soul of every sane man/woman cause it brings brute force of the "middleage" with the feelings in touch that everyone of us could him/herself identify with. Loving your child for example.

  • @inphasesith After all the very first scenes show this as Conans mother tries to protect her child even though she knows that she has no chance of survival against the dark army. Its those very feelings and the perfect orchestralic symphony from Basil which make this movie nearly monumental without having ever touched some nice CGI effects here and there. Everything just camera movement and simply TOP of the line MUSIC the old-school way, like it should be!

  • @slmrcs This movie was good but I did not like this scene and a few others in the books conan's father doesn't die for example.

  • @inphasesith Really, you didn't like this scene? It's beyond amazing, but to each their own, I suppose. Were you expecting to see an explosion or something? I thought the 2011 version was filmed by Michael Bay at times with all the damn explosions they managed to cram in the movie. Sure, the 2011 version may be more accurate and faithful to the book, but that doesn't make it better. At all. The new one's sountrack is forgetable, no memorable lines, the symbology in orig is better, etc.

  • @MozVolta No there is no need to act ignorant I was not expecting an explosion or anything of the sort I just don't like some MAJOR details they missed. I don't like the new film AT ALL conan's father still dies by the way in that one. His father plays a major role throughout his adventures and they just kill him off? just like that? No thats not right.

  • @inphasesith The movie version will never have all the major details as the original written works. That's just the way it is. As a stand-alone movie, I think this one does the job. You have to remember it's a movie. If they were to include every detail from the written works it would be 20 hrs long. You have to be able to separate the two. Movies are just never going to be as detailed as the books. That's why I like to think of this version simply as one inspired by the stories.

  • @MozVolta It just changes the whole world of conan his father is just to big of a detail to remove.

  • @inphasesith Perhaps, but again, that's why I just look at this movie as one inspired by the original written works, but not entirely based on it. Personally, I don't care if his father isn't in the movie as much as he was in the original stories, because I look at the movie as something separate from the stories. I wouldn't change a thing from this movie. It's a matter of being a fan of the original work and expecting the movie to be the same, or simply accepting it as being inspired it.

  • @slmrcs LOTR fake.... Brool Story Co....

  • @slmrcs yep, absolutely.

  • Fun fact:Conan has literally never cried.

  • Darth Vader looks is still bad ass even without the suit.

  • wonderful classic!

    Fantastic movie

  • thulsa doom would of been an awesome conan enemy if he kept re-appearing in several of the movies and had to be killed again. they didn't make too many conan stories ...and it sounded like there was more than at least 3 or 4

  • i always thought of this as a kind of "realistic" fantasy. its not really over the top with the story or the effects, it actually feels real, like it could have happened.

btw, Nadiuska (conans mom) is SUPER HOT!! she was actually a softcore porn actress of the 70's and 80's which surprised me. if you go to dailymotion and type in her name you will see some videos with her bearing all, and man she is lovely from head to toe, beautiful gorgeus women. this was i think one of her only mainstream

  • @burtonrules123 hehe i know i have all her videos. But i must say she looks her best here in this movie. Good enough to marry :p

  • @burtonrules123: Thanks for reminding me about her softcore porn work. She was indeed exquisitely -- almost *painfully*, if you follow me -- beautiful here, and I'm not talking about the decapitation!

  • The scene was great. If I watch it enough times, I can make a dialogue of their thoughts. He was saying that she can either bow down and be his slaves or fight and if she fights Conan will die. She has dignity and doesn't want to be seen as a slave to her son, so she silently asks if if Conan will be spared, he says yes, she agrees and gives her life so that Conan may live...

  • Today's women don't wear enough skin tight leather.

  • @BrutalGarry conan isn't born conan he becomes him from that point of his life on.

  • i absolutely, positively have the balls to say -- without even seeing the remake -- that there will be nothing even remotely close in it that has the power of this scene

  • This scene is pure poetry.

  • this scene, and all the movie, is perfect, a master piece,, includin the soundtrack

i dont know why the fuck it wasnt nominated in the oscars, not even the soundtrack was

  • There's not a frikkin' word of dialog in this scene, and yet everybody says so much. Say what you will about "Fantasy" movies...when they're done like this, they're some of the best movies (telling the best stories) ever. This is pure drama, pure "opera" and the score for the whole movie is just perfect. I had it once, on vinyl!

  • @Chipchik exactly! it's a work of art. I hope they don't screw up the remake.

  • @0smiPotnik I'm not too worried about the remake - always saw it as two Conans: the Arnie-movie Conan and the comicbook Conan, both brilliant but very little in common apart from the Howard-basis. As such, I don't see the new Conan as a remake of this film but rather a Conan that's more compatible with the comics (and probably a little too modern for old hounds like us). Sortta like Stanley Kubrick's "Shining" vs Stephen Kings "Shining" years later.

  • @fenriz218 no way the new conan will suck complete ass to the artistry of the original. fuck the comics books arnold is conan forever!!!!!

  • @0smiPotnik no matter HOW good the new 'conan' is, it cannot touch this one. the ORIGINAL!

  • @Chipchik Yep. This Movie shows that NO Special effects á la LOTR are needed. By the way who agrees are way overrated, I mean come on do it the old-school with REAL people that fight and not thousands of animated CGI characters. There is no fun in this and it does not even look that epic in comparison to this perfect soundtrack from Basil and the corresponding scenes!

  • Her name is Nadiuska, a beautiful actress who was quite a sexsymbol in Spain

    seventies.

  • @Metodologic correct!

i love how she looks in this movie.

  • @Metodologic yeah thats right,, but after a few years she was forgotten and she lived in abject poverty..

now is in a psychiatric asylum near madrid,, she is now completely crazy

  • there is something really intense about this scene and the music is just beautiful

  • @zerocool0000000000 you said it mister

  • James Earl Jones was cold blooded in this movie.

  • @TargetRender yes sir, oh yes he was! like the snow neath his feet.

  • @0smiPotnik Like Rick James.

  • A very beautiful woman.

  • @SecretTrollAccount1 exactly!
