Fantastic short. In 1984 I was at nationals in Montreal being held at the same time..

We all knew the Heavy 8s had a great shot at gold. They'd split a pair of races at the big preolympic regatta at Lucerne with the Yanks where they'd BOTH beaten the East Germans and other nations boycotting LA but they'd had to go through the repechages after a stuck rudder in the heats.

The (suitably drawn out) announcment of the result was high drama.

Yes, the early parts of the video are the early AM training shots at Lake Casitas, where the morning mist gives quite an atmosphere. The end of the video is in the afternoon Men's Heavywt 8s final.
