Even as an easily-pleased child I detested this awful show. For shear poverty of imagination it s hard to beat Robin s futuristic weapon of choice: an electric stick.
I watched this as a six year old and am now almost 39. Having not seen that intro in over 25 years I now ask myself, "why the fuck is the chef flying with them?" I think his name was Giles.
I haven't seen this cartoon in over forty years. It was one of my favorites when I was a kid, though. And it's still ten times better than the drivel that they keep throwing out at us nowadays.
@AdmiralCSN: Says you-I love this cartoon too, but I also have a ton of current favorites as well, and this show, although I'll remember it fondly, has too many numerous flaws to overlook (same action repeated all of the time, music repeats, animation rigid and mechanical, etc.)
I started watching this show when I was 9, I'm 16 now and I STILL love it! My dad loves the fact I love the same cheesy old cartoons he did when he was a kid :D
This show was MUCH better than most of its contemporaries. The writing, voice acting and character development easily beat out the other stuff of the time, like Spiderman. It was also much better than a lot of subsequent cartoons, including Transformers and Thundercats.
This really was a pretty bad cartoon. However, I loved the songs, and I still do! And the vignettes/interludes--I saw them 1000 times, and somehow they never got old, but I guess in a way became comforting and familiar. I was also fascinated by Maid Marian, even though I think I was only 7 when I started watching. Probably foreshadowed me growing up to be some kind of perv lol. or maybe it's because she's hardly in any episodes.
I think Rocket Robin Hood was a great space pirate! Because that rocket flying Medieval English outlaw was really an living galactic space pirate of the Galactic British Space exploders who always fire an super powers arrows and bow. ANd he also star-crusing flying in his starship with his Merry Men are crew of his starship!
Man I hated this show, the most annoying thing was the opening. When I was a kid I just wanted to shoot my t.v. for playing this show hahah it was so dull and emotionless to me.
I used to watch this in the early 70's when I was a kid as well. And I remember this show. Even though now it is fairly outdated compared to today's cartoon. Still love hearing soe of the little interludes from each of the characters.
I used to love the way Friar Tuck would take one bite of each item on the feast table and chuck it behind him--he forgot about the sin of waste. Good cartoon--nice and campy. Good ol' Toronto production.
The animation is so cheap in this cartoon. Actually done in Canada. It's part of its charm. Also the songs sound like something out of the 1940's set to a 1960's cartoon. I remember when CBC used to show these cartoons in the 70's. Hilarious how so many people actually remember the theme song. hahahaha
song is kinda weak. but i must say this is an interesting looking cartoon. kinda reminds me of defenders of the earth in a way. actually it woulda been kinda cool if robin hood was in that cartoon.
speaking of memories remember watching this back in the late 1960's boy I am ancient on Wee Willie Webber Show out of Phillly back in the day boy talk about OLD
I remember getting up at 6am on Saturday mornings, sneak downstairs in my PJs, pour myself a jumbo bowl of fruit-loops n milk. Take the bowl with me to the TV room and plunk myself down for 5 hours of non-stop cartoon action...Starting with Rocket Robinhood of course! Those were the days!!!
God I loved that show as a kid. Nowadays everything is Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rnigs. Whatever happened to young people's love of space travel and hi tech gadgets?? The future just ain't what it used to be.
@Comicvajra That slowly started to disappear after NASA, rather the U.S Congress, scrapped the Apollo program in the 1970s, someone would have been to Mars by now if they hadn't.
@Comicvajra - Well, it was the 1950's and 1960's, the true height of space exploration. Then in the 1970's and onward, with the advent of Dungeons and Dragons and others, it seems like fantasy is back in vogue. I do like Harry Potter and all, but I do agree that it seems there isn't as much science fiction shows as their used to be. Then again it seems to go in cycles too.
@Comicvajra: What happened? Try people saying that space travel and the space program is a waste of money and time, and that we have to fix what's going on the planet first before we head into space itself. Don't get me wrong; the environment DOES need to be dealt with, as does poverty, war, and most other social issues, but we shouldn't give up reaching for the stars too.
you wanna know a secret, I always thought this cartoon was weird when i was really little... probably like 5, but now, I really enjoy it.. specifically for the theme song... one of the best opening themes I've ever heard in my life.. It does what it's supposed to do.. it makes me want to watch it.
What a concept, robin hood in the future with rockets but still wearing the old clothes. I loved this cartoon when I was a kid, there's some weird stuff in this show that is kind of deep.
Ah, Canada's cheesiest contribution to animation! I watched this show all the time when I was a rugrat, and Teletoon ran it for a while a couple of years ago. Good to see it again.
I think I used to watch this show, but doesn't actually remember it. I specially remember that weird name of the series "rocket robin hood" and also the theme song.
Come gather around me. Space travelers surround me. Hark now to the ballad of Rocket Robin Hood. I may well confound you, astound you, spellbound you, With heroes and villains, the bad and the good. Watch now as our rockets race here from afar. For now, with our Robin, we live on a star. Three. Two. One. Blast off! Band of brothers, marching together. Heads held high in all kinds of weather. With fiery blasts, our roaring rockets rise, Beyond the Earth, beyond the skies! ...
This was on TV in the UK when i was about 6 or 7 and i looked forward to it every week.
