Northern lights: We were lucky: in Honningsvag one evening there were lights and the sky was clear. I advise to drive a little further into the night where it´s complete darkness.

If you have specific questions, feel free to get in touch with me. We could even setup a skype call.
Generally people would immediately come to you if stop by the road and ask you if you need help.
Food & drink: quite expensive, especially Honningsvag. I had my trunk full of stuff bought in Germany.
Accomodation: we used Couchsurfing for three nights. I very much recommend this. You can get in touch with locals, and its a lot of fun. Beyond that, we were staying in motels / cheap hotels. In Honningsvag, the Nordkapp Hostal is a nice, clean and relatively cheap place to stay.
We spend 12 days on the tour. I would say this is the minimum you should invest. We have spent quite a lot of time driving, we we just could not afford more at the time.
Costs: it is around 7000 km, so depends on your car. We were dring a BMW 118i convertible, with an average of 7 liters / 100km.
Road conditions: you should be prepared to drive on snow and ice. Not so bad though. After 1-2 days you`ll manage it well. For emergency, I strongly advise to carry: wheel chains, sand, shovel.
Hello everyone! A lot of people were asking questgions, so here´s a public answer to the main points:
First of all the route: we started from Heidelberg, German, and went the following way: Travemünde - took the ferry - Trelleborg - Jönköping - Sundsvall - Muonio - Honningsvag - Lulea - Stockholm - Coppenhague - Heidelberg
great vid, but i have some questions, we probably will go around 2 januari, what to do in seven days in the north cape and have you seen the northern lights? and can you give me some tips finding a bungalow or a cheap hotel/hostel near the north cape, and how many hours of daylight should I exspect, thank you for this vid , , do you have tips about bun
@bramcodoss1Pinguin usually northern lights are seen from all places above the Arctic Circle during winter time. You have to arrange your stay there, we stayed in Midnattsol cabins (400 NOK/2 ppl) but its closed in winter time. I think the road to Nordkapp -top- is also closed during winter time?... If it is open, you can also visit the real North Cape. - I tried to attach you URLs but the YT reported error
- at least two phones, one switched off and only for emergency
- amateur radio (if you are licensed)
- be prepared to cold: especially in the mainland (Muonio) it can get very cold. Blankets, good winterclothes, headlamps, etc for problematic situations
@bramcodoss1Pinguin Yes, you can see it, we were in a hostel in Honnigsvag. From there you can go by car close to Nordkapp, but it is closed some kilometres before you can reach it, than have to do an about 13 kilometres tour by walk to reach it and go back to your car. You can expect about 3 hours daylight, when the sun is up, and about one hour sunrise and one hour sunset. These are very long compared to European ones. So you can calculate about 5 hours when you see without lamp.
@filoclito The biggest cold was in Sweden and Finland. At night -18 -22, but nothing special happend with the car. On our way the lowest was -28.5, but than we were on the road. At Nordkapp, more exactly Honningsvag we had a better wheater -2-6 Celsius, even +2 in daylight, due the the Gulf Stream. In that time in Germany the temperature was lower, about -10 Celsius, as we heard from the news. Quite interesting :)
@lasc0um : Hi, we did not reach the official Nordkapp, in winter it was closed, but we made a good tour by walk, close to it. The photo of Nordkapp is just a zoomed ona at 5:05 The photos of the tour are between 4:30-4:45 and 6:05-6:43. The rocky photos, maybe not in time order...and sometimes sorted between other photos...
i remember approximately 4-5 hours
