Hello fevermeds. Let me try to answer your questions...

1) Roof structure is made of aluminum where the tarp is actual Sunbrella.

2) You are right in your assumption that the roof and lift are tied. In fact, both are linked as I use the lift's anchors as attach points to the roof. One reason for that is that the weight of the boat helps hold the roof down. But as a safety, specially when the boat is off the lift, the whole structure (lift & roof) is anchored to bottom of lake. Hello Ezy. Thanks for your comments and vote of confidence. There are a couple of issues though (in my mind). 1) Liability, 2) Service & Support. As for the patent, it is as good as how much you are willing to support it. I am not debating the importance of a patent but in this case, not something I am willing to get myself into !!

Awesome achievement... You should put a patent on it. That doesnt cost much, make a portfolia or sales campaign, see if you can take some orders then approach some manufactures in China not in your own country and get a handful made. I believe these would ho like hotcakes. One local marina should see you half a dozen buyers. Your invention sure beats cleaning barnacles. You should look into it.
