Bulgaria - the Witnesses were granted legal recognition in Bulgaria in 1991.

In 1998 a case involving JW in Bulgaria was given attention by the European Court of Human Rights.The Bulgarian government had deprived JW, as well as some 20 other religious groups, of legal recognition. The European Court urged Bulgaria to settle matters with JW on a friendly basis. As a result, in October 7, 1998. Bulgaria again gave legal recognition to JW.

Austria - in May 2009 the Federal Ministry of Education, Art, and Culture of Austria granted JW the highest possible level of recognition as a religious community. The Witnesses are now the 14th religious society in Austria to enjoy this status.

Portugalia - legal recognition on December 18, 1974.

25.09.2009 Department of Justice approved the status of the Association JW as a long-standing religious community. They received the highest religious and legal status.

Romania - On April 9, 1990, legal recognition as the Religious Organization of JW

May 22, 2003, Romania’s Ministry of Culture and Religions issued a ministerial ordinance reaffirming that the Religious Organization of JW, established on April 9, 1990, is a legal entity recognized by the State.

On October 28, 2003, the Bucharest Court of Appeals issued Judgment No. 1756, obligating the government of Romania to include JW on the tax-regulations list of recognized religions.

The Romanian Supreme Court ordered the government to recognize JW as a religion, but the government repeatedly resisted the order. In March 2006, under the auspices of the ECHR, the government negotiated a friendly settlement with JW. On July 5, 2006, the State of Berlin issued its official recognition.

Macedonia - in 1993, JW officially registered in the newly formed state.
