  • if there a other earthquake in la.....i dont think my reserves of candy wont be enough :(

  • the sound was scary enough

  • MOTHERFUCKING GODZILLA

  • Um actually the Chile earthquake in 1960 lasted 1 and a half minutes. It was 9.7.

  • @Dragonwarrior137 that's a big mistake... the Big Chile Earthquake in Valdivia's coast lasted 10 minutes and 25 seconds... because about 37 earthquake epicenters were detected near Valdivia during the period of recorded time, hence resulting in the duration and magnitude.

  • OMG!King Gidorah!

  • i went through 8.2 on Guam in 1993.

  • mother earth is stretching again

  • OH No Godzilla returns

  • wow they had color in 1966?

  • @MrKartos1 They had color in WW1 as-well, it was just super rare, and the cameras were so expensive. The first ever taken color photograph was in 1860's. If you google "Color Photograph" and go on the wikipedia page, you'll find some neat color photos back in the 1800's

  • The sound of the Primary wave in the rock is absolutely amazing. It's like a giant high speed train passing by.

  • just to mention that Chili has not has the biggest earth quake recorded, no earthquake is possible to last for 11 minute and 9.8 on the rictor scale. japan experiences a earthquake at a possible 1 a day on average. (However it is less than maybe 2 on the rictor scale therefoe is extremely rare to feel any vibrations).

THE LARGEST RECORDED EARTHQUAKE WAS ABOUT 8.5 WHEN THE TSUNAMI TOOK PLACE IN 2004 AT INDONESIA.

  • @joka4life1 There are different scales used inc. Richter (only for small quakes) and Moment (for large quakes). As you say, 9.8 is impossible. I think it's related to size of fault rupture and there are no faults large enough to produce such magnitude. But - Chile '60 was 9.5, Indian Ocean '04 was 9.1, Concepcion '10 was 8.8. The '23 Kanto quake was reported up to 10 mins. Depends on rock comp. We have about two or more a day in Japan that can be felt. Many more cannot. Maybe 1500/year.

  • @joka4life1 actually the 1960 chili quake IS the largest quake on record; the magnitude was 9.6 and lasted an est. 4 min.. the second largest EQ was march 1964 near anchorage alaska -measuring 9.4 and also lasted @4 minutes .the third largest was the 2004 indonesia quake measuring 9.2.. sometimes EQs feel like they last much longer than actual time because they are so scary, and because aftershocks sometimes occur seconds or minutes after the initial quake.

  • I was not scared. Everyone u are scary cat. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

  • What a frightening sound. Glad I only have to worry about tornadoes, hurricanes, and flood here.

  • @AliasUndercover WAT IS WRONG WITH U THATS NOT A GOOD SUBSTITUTE. HAHA LOL. no but really thats just as bad

  • scary

  • Godzilla!

  • My first earthquake was in 2008. I dont know if anyone heard of it? It was in Los Angeles, CA.

  • @RomiiTM no, never heard of an earthquake occurring there.

  • @Aliendear yeah, i think it was in chino hills but then reached to where i lived

  • an earthquake doesn't sound scary, but when it happens, even the smallest one you can feel, you feel like you are about to sh*t in your pants.

yesterday there was an earthquake and i was in the shower. ohh what the fuck to do in there!

  • @StephNducks haha lol i was in a shower when there was an earthquake i ran out naked. totally embarrasing!

  • A good industry to get into in Japan is the building trade.

  • When there was an earthquake in San Jose ca I heard like the sounds of waves first and than everything started shaking

  • it's exactly the same as what I heard when I was about 14 or 15 living here in Cornwall, UK. I was getting dressed about 9am at the weekend and I heard this loud roar. I thought a bomb had gone off. Never felt any shaking even though my family told me that they felt shaking. Weird. I wasn't scared at all I just felt intrigued.

  • @MrViolentlyHappy i have to concur with your statement. I myself have been through a few earthquakes including, Northridge, Loma Prieta, Chino Hills, and more recently the Mexicalli earthquakes. They do tend to sound like thunder or a strange rumbling sound.

  • @pokesomi you were in the mexicali earthquakes too ?? i had gone through the big tremblor (7.2 ) and all the aftershocks (6.0 to 1.1) i live in the Imperial Valley do u know that county its north of mexicali.. its right here in the US

  • @lupitanrique if memory serves me correctly there are two, 1 is sandiego county and the other is Imperial County. I am In orange county. While it happend though I was driving and didnt feel it initially but i felt a few of the aftershocks. Northridge was a bad one for me as i woke up about 5 seconds before it hit. Jan 17 1994 at 4:30am. Went through that one, went back to sleep and saw it on the news the next morning

  • @pokesomi was the northridge strong? did u got scared?

  • @lupitanrique at first yeah. but after it stopped I didnt think much of it. that was until i woke up that morning and saw the news.

  • @pokesomi yep thats what i do when earthquakes happen at night or morning i dont think of it that much and go to sleep. I just beg god to take care of me and nothing happens that much.

  • its godzilla kicking monster zeros ass

  • the sound of the earthquake sounded like a friehgt train...creepy

  • i was in the chilean earthquake 2010, it was samothing like that, but it moved a lot mooooore

  • Wonder how much earthquake prediction technology has changed.

  • i was on 2...a 8.4 and a 7.2 in Peru.

  • I was in San Francisco in the 1989 quake. Like nothing else I have ever been in . Very scary.

  • Earthquakes make one of the scariest sounds ever. From my experience its like thunder but ongoing and coming from underground.

  • is it scary in a big one wait were u in like a 6.6 one

  • @TheAngusyoung12 It was probably 5 or something it was strong but not devastating.

  • Whats up with the banging? Sounds like a 9.

  • Oh my gosh!

  • I forgot to mention that Chili probably gets the biggest quakes. They said on in 1960 was 9.8 on the ricter scale and lasted 11 minutes. I have never heard of a quake last longer then a few minutes. 11 minutes would be a nightmare.

  • it was the largest earthquake ever reported if i remember lol

  • the quake wasn't as powerful, it was rated a 9.8 because of the duration, it requires more energy for a quake to last longer than it does for a slip strike quake which can be more violent, a sudden 7.0 is more violent than a 8.5 that lasts longer, but which one causes more damage depends on the terrain and the way the structures are built

  • @bluevidcam its not CHILI ITS CHILE!!!!!!!!!

  • @bluevidcam chile is spelled chile not chili thats just the english way purnouncing it yes i spelled wrong who cares

  • @bluevidcam Chili is a food. I think you mean Chile. Dumbass.

  • @bluevidcam Sumatra gets hit by bigger earthquakes much more frequently than Chili… since the 2004 9.3 quake they have 4 -5 quakes ranging from 7.0M – 7.9M hit them every year, including a 8.7M quake in 2005 and a 8.5M quake in 2007 . By the way that Chili quake in 1960 was 9.5, not 9.8. Alaska has also had some huge quakes! and it’s a known fact that megathurst earthquakes last for several minutes sometimes longer!

  • @bluevidcam that's right... because about 37 earthquake epicenters were detected near Valdivia during the period of recorded time, hence resulting in the duration and magnitude.

  • @bluevidcam There were two main ones, on May 21st and May 22nd plus tsunami. The one on Feb. 27th was scary enough in the capital city of Santiago so I can't imagine how anyone can survive 9.8 without having a cardiac arrest or something. Worst thing is when you realize movement increases and get more violent and you get a roaring sound of doors hitting frames, window breaking, objects falling down and worse, the sky illuminated in greenish blue at 3:34 am after having been reading about haarp.

  • @bluevidcam MOST of the time, EQ's that register higher than 8 on the richter scale go for longer periods of time, but don't feel as violent. I live in CHCH, NZ, on Sept 4 2010 we had a 7.1 that lasted around 55 seconds. Just 2 weeks ago we had a 6.3 that lasted around 10-15 seconds, i for one thought it felt MUCH stronger and it sure as hell caused much more devastation than the 7.1 ! EQs are weird.

  • @emmaensign6 its not just the magnitude, it also depends on the groud acceleration, and thats what causes the shaking. the 6.3 christchruch quake had like twice the ground acceleration than the 7.1 quake.

  • @bluevidcam IT IS CHILE, NOT CHILI. Are you an US citizen?

  • @dyroc Probably. Must have been thinking of his next meal. Fat dude also.

  • @bluevidcam you mean the Great chilean earthquake? It was a 9.5, not a 9.8

  • @bluevidcam a few mins not even 11 min must have been a mistake. earthquakes last no lpnger than 20 secs. i should know. i was in a 5.5 tremor not earthquake cause i live in west toronto not ottawa and the floor of room 205 my grade 7 science class started to move. sry for so much text but im a teen of detail

  • @bluevidcam Chili LOL delicious...

  • @bluevidcam it's "chile" ignorant

  • @bluevidcam Chile does get large scale earthquakes, they have 3 in the top 10 of all time, with the 1960 being number 1. It was a 9.5, and there's no info saying it lasted 11 minutes. There is one interesting fact about it though, it triggered a vocanic eruption 2 days later.

Just fyi, the longest duration for an earthquake ever recorded was the 9.1 Indian Ocean earthquake in 2004 which was about 9 minutes. Comparatively the 2011 Japan earthquake was a 9.0, but only lasted 6 minutes.

  • @Paulie151 The volcanic eruption is interesting, but not that interesting. It's fact that Earthquakes are what causes volcanic eruptions. Pompeii is the good example. I'm not quite sure about the 2011 Japan Quake lasting 6 minutes, because I had a friend there, and she said it was a normal length of time. About 2 minutes, but I can't be sure because there are a lot of different opinions.

  • I think Japan, Iraq and Afghanistan have the most quakes in the world. In Japan they happen all the damn time. But in places like Alaska they're up in the 8.0 - 9.3 scale. And in California they happen on a major scale every 10 years but luckly most of them are out in the desert on the San Andreas. My fear is one off the coast of San Francisco or through LA.

  • try northern California, eureka sits on 3 connecting fault lines

  • Cameras are being set up, but do they warn the ppl?? NO.

  • i'm at least luckier than those who live nearby

    volcanoes.. sorry for the indonesians..

they say they can even hear the sounds of magmas

roaring underground and their islands shaking

just every nights, when on bed..

  • im in peru and god damn it earthquakes happen hear all the time... i hate it :( scares the hell outta me

  • i used to live there to yea it happends a lot of times i was just a lil kid :/

  • i don't understand

  • I remember the 89' quake I think it was a 7.2. It sounded like a freight train going by and coming to a dead stop. except the cars were a mile long each.

  • If you live in the North East, Earthquakes sound like a Snow Plow going by.

  • except deeper and louder. and nothing like a snow plow lol!

  • The only thing scarier than the shaking.... is the noise. Holy moly - there's nothing like it.

  • i never ever ever ever knew earthquakes roar

  • yes they roar underground. I was once in an earthquake and its scares the living shit out of you. Cos you could hear the rumbling sound coming under your feet like a wave.

  • how loud are earthquakes like this?

  • Loud, like a sonic boom, but it keeps on going. Then everything in your house starts making it's own noise. The sound is very deep. As you can imagine, the sound is generated from about 10 or so miles down in the earth and that grinding crust is capable of some astonishing sounds. You certainly know you're alive when they hit. I've been through a 5.9, a 6.0, 6.8 (and all the aftershocks), a 6.5 and 7.2 and countless 3s to 5s. The Northridge quake scared the shit out of me.

  • this would scare me... not the rumbling, but the roaring sound........

  • i have seen 3 times in my life;;. it is scary sound ,even mor at night when sleeping !and it takes only 8 to10 seconds to see the roof on your head !

  • @artin74 i know.

the one that happned recently @ 4:00 a.m. i woke up nd the first thing i saw was the walls shaking nd i heard a horrible noise like thunder :( i couldnt go back 2 sleep :(

  • 2 yrs ago n 5th grade we had a bad quake n illinois tht NEVER happens my snowglobes almost fell on my head lol it was fun!!

  • earth quakes dont bother me but hearing them does

  • sounds like some one just burped

  • So earthquakes actually roar.

  • no actually it sounds more like more like a very low rumble but loud and if your close to it like i was you'll definitely feel the true power of the earth

  • dang

  • that wasn't an earthquake, that was a dragon

  • @gloomyoutlook Puff's back in town.

  • @gloomyoutlook And that dragon was Chuck Norris' pet.

  • @gloomyoutlook it was actually god zilla

  • does it really sound like that..fucking eerie lol

  • September 7th is my birthday date...

    D:

  • @NickiandMirashow mines is september 1st

  • I live in california, and been threw many good sized earthquakes. and that roar is some what helpfull at times. I mean not exactly since you cant do anything about the shaking but knowning for a brief second that its coming doesnt make me as scared. But its just as easy as to mistaken that roar sound for a large truck. makes my heart stop at times.. Its interesting how when ur in an earthquake even for 3 seconds it feels like it will never end.

  • when a 6.9 hit my town like 10 yrs ago, i was in my algebra class, in highschool. i thought it was a big truck. we heard it first.

  • strange

  • strange sounds

  • i was in the Peru 7.9 earthquake 2 years ago. IT WAS FREAKY!!!!! we were only a few miles from the epicenter.

  • Seconds before the 1994 Northridge quake hit here in Los Angeles, I remember that loud roaring sound like the one towards then end of this video. The loud roar woke me up maybe 2-3 seconds before the the first set of seismic waves slammed into our area. It still haunts me to this day. Anytime I hear a loud roar of a plane a pause for a second just to make sure its not an earthquake.

  • this roar is even louder when the quake is at 10-30 km depth you can imagine how scary it is in that depths..

  • I know exactly what you mean! I remember that sound actually briefly incorporated itself into my dream...I was dreaming that I was outside with some friends and suddenly a train appeared in my dream and I woke up to that noise and the whole house violently shaking!!! Most surreal event of my life for sure! Once I realized what was going on I ran to the doorway and held on for dear life. It went on for so long I was certain the house was gonna collapse. We were 10 miles from ground zero.

  • strating at 00:56 the hell was that cloverfield getting up

  • where is that?

  • The sound effects had to be post production. Come on.

  • It sounds very errie..

  • This is scary. Been in one minor quake in Rochester, NY Spring of 1973. Was at school. Classes were switching near end of day. Few felt it because they were switching classes, but I did because I was sitting in a seat. There was a rumbling noise before, then all of a sudden the entire school dropped down about 3/4 of an inch. Scares me to this day. Don't want to be in a big quake.

  • is not the first earthquake , it a tremor

  • The scariest earthquake footage i ever saw was a documentary on the Alaska quake in the 60's.

  • REAL is always scarier...action and horror movies strangle themselves with special effects, wasting money...that 1980's-level was the best...maybe the EARLY movies didn't have ENOUGH TO LOOK REALISTIC (caps for emphasis)...but today's movies use TOO much to look realistic...

The scariest things I've seen are all either on youtube, or on daytime news

  • Nice hd camera

  • here in so cal we get some nutty rumblings

  • hahaha heck yes we do.

  • I live in Costa Rica so Earthquakes are common here, in my experience before the earthquake hits you can hear like a rumbling in the earth and then the shockwave hits for saying, but for sure the sound of it is very scary because you can here it coming.

  • talk about earthquakes.. how about the one in poas 2 months ago.. or the one today in gulfito

  • like an underground monster..

  • Simply amazing. The swaying of buildings looks almost unreal.

BTW, does anybody know if this is how earthquakes actually sound like? (notice the 'thunder' in the video)

  • Hi bluecliff

I thought the same thing when I heard and did some research, apparently the "thunder" could be possibly steel structures or cladding vibrating.

But if you find further research about the noise I would be quite interested to learn about.

Thanks for checkin out the videos.

    Cheers

  • You are 100% correct, havin been in 2 quakes myself in the space of 9months, this sound you hear is crumbling from under the ground, not above the surface, this is a very disturbing sound and was not a pleasent think to wake up to at 8.18am! (on my 5.6m quake in 2007!!!)

    Regards

  • Thank you, matty

With an underground rumble and the whole world shaking, it must have been very disturbing indeed.

    -thebluecliff

  • @mineguy101 the earth thunders even before the buildings do

  • I was 6 during the SF quake of 84, you feel the sound more than hear it. There was a rockslide in Yosemite that was right above my house, and it sounded like when you drag a rubber raft along the ground but amplified 100x. A smaller earthquake nearby felt like someone was shaking the ground like a sheet, not moving side to side but in waves, and we heard and felt a rumbling through the air vents. It's scary not because of the sound, but because you everything reverberates through your stomach.

  • @thebluecliff yes thats what an earthquake sounds like......like the rumbling stomach of a thousand beasts....

  • @thebluecliff Yeah i noticed the sound and thats what iv been looking for. In Australia we had a small one about two months ago and it sorta makes a sound like ww3 or the worlds gonna blow up. Im a rough bloke and never thought much of them becouse we dont usally get this stuff in Aus but when your in it some scary shit. Just didnt know what was happening (unexpected) i would have probly been scared shitless in one like that if i didnt expect it

  • Actually, microphones from the 1960's didn't capture all the frequencies, and were more distorted. In real life, it sounds like your house was hit by a car is what most people say, but, I think it sounds like a helicopter (or two) is attempting to land on your roof. You hear a deep rumble, then you hear your house creaking in all of the corners, and your windows rattle. If you have a decent home theater system, I could mix a 5.1 sound re-creation of a quake for a better idea : ).

  • @thebluecliff We had a small earthquake in New England, 1992. It sounded like 200 Mac trucks coming down the road from far away. I was up in a building, so you could hear the the 'trucks' coming over the hills from far away. Sounded like lots of mac trucks from 20 miles away.
