I like Janeane, but I disagree with her idea that only female comics are seen as bitter. I read an interview with Patton Oswalt where he felt comics across the board were viewed as bitter and he was...well...bitter about it.

Comics are, in general, are very bitter people. Gender and sexual orientation don't really mean anything. And many people have said/written that male comics are just as bitter as female ones, so I think Janeane's point is a little off.

Well, it's subtler than coming outright and saying "She Is A Bitter Woman Comic." When women make jokes that call the sexist behavior of men into question, the effect on our male-dom society is quite different than if, say a black male comic makes an accurate assessment of white culture and how it has tried to hold him down. Perhaps a large portion of men don't agree with the absurdity of their treatment of women, own up to it, allow themselves be made fun of?
