  • Well thats one perception. But our history is not as flowery! Since America's begining we have kept our heritage seperate from the general population, and we have survived! Go to China town, Hell's kitchen, Little Italy, Brighton Beach, Haight and Ashbury in San Fransisco! Whats not American is forcing "anyone morals, ethics, or beleifs on some one else!

  • I really like the examples you use. Makes alot of sense what your saying. I enjoyed the vid.five stars!

  • Thanks.

  • Dream, well done! ;D

racism is only one of two essential obstacles. the other, lack of economic opportunity, after Cheney Bush regime fucked us, in this nightmare Fascist economy.

Class Warfare and Struggle. Worker's Struggle, apparent across all racial ethnic boundaries.

it's really the Rich declaring War against the Middle Class and Working Class.

Middle and Working Class are never warring at the Rich. only defending themselves from the Rich dropping shit on them, trying to weaken them.

  • also i meant to type too i like the notion of just SURVIVING! that pretty much covers it all up!

  • yep yep yep!!! on point!

  • i second that, J ;D

but i hope nobody thinks he is belittling severity of racism against Blacks that still prevails. but only it's the essential obstacle other than lack of economic opportunity for people of any ethnic background after Cheney Bush regime fucked us in this nightmare Fascist economy.

the other obstacle, other than racism is Class Warfare and Struggle. Worker's Struggle, apparent across all racial and ethnic boundaries. it's really the Rich trying to weaken the Working Class.

  • yes agreed

  • the valleys people in wales are adaptin in the criminal livin and nothin is gonna stop this movement

  • you words were activating my imagination and then suddenly u dropped the "f" bomb 2 times!!!! lololol!!!

  • My bad. :)

  • Your perspective is not lost on me.I agree with most of what you are saying.BUT

    Assimilation=Death

    Death of identity

    Death of culture

    Adapt?Yes

Assimilate?NO I say this as a native American.

    Look up what "assimilate" means.

  • ...it also dictates how we dicipline our children, how some of us choose to look, which skin tone is more exceptable to us, and so on. and it's all because of the same "assimilating" slaves had to do then to survive. anyway, love your video's, (when i can get a chance to see them),

    stay 4eva blessed and peaceful

  • i must say, i agreed with most of your commentary, yet near the end, when you said that, it is not slavery that holds down the black man, but racism... well lets agree to disagree on that 1, lol. i believe it's both, plus more. what slavery has left behind, (in my opinion), is a culture of people who have excepted european beliefs and teachings of being "less then human", which carries over, even today. which cause we as a people to not only doubt ourselves and our talents,...

  • There is no American culture.

Africans in America ARE THE culture.

    JayJBee

"Scrap 'African-American' out of your word tresury before you go broke and are left with nothing to say at al"

  • there is an amreican culture! and it's not mine nore yours. and for broke that america! wake up! my brother

  • africa americans do not have a culture!

  • You got nerves and you lack brain:

Jazz, Rythem&Blues, Rock(&Roll), Soul, Rap, HipHop.

Not only did the blacks feed you, house you and filled your pockets. They not only build America.

    They made it.

    JayJBee

"The borrowing is over: Africa needs you to give them back"

  • that is not our culture! we as black american don't know what our cluture really is yes i understand what you are saying but that is not our culture! period

  • I got an e-mail that someone responded to my comment. Where's my comment???

What I want to say now is:

Everywhere where a person from African descent is his/her self, another person from African descent (usualy the type that watches 'too much UnitedStates of OperationPaperClip TV') tells him/her to behave.

What the fuck are you talking about?!

    JayJBee

"I was born in an African country, moved to europe, whyle you was giving them devils a couple of cultures."

  • In response to your ending. The problem for African people is not Racism it is Colonialism. Racism is only an idea in the head of white people. An idea is simple but the problem comes when those white people have the POWER to act on their ideas. But if African people had POWER (which they dont) they wouldn't have to worry about the idea of some white person. If african people end the colonial and neo-colonial domination that controls them Problem Solved!

  • I understand your point and the same thing that are talking about oes with integration too. where intigration means to link with all people, But Politically what does it mean! Politically integration means living with white people and going to their schools. Politically assimilation means acting like white people or white power or the white nation. So what you are agueing is true but at the same time you must understand what people mean and the context it is being used in.

    UHURU!

  • In a free country you don't have to assimilate. When people say they don't want to assimilate its a code phrase of saying I'm not interested in certain things you are

  • You bring your perspectives from a higher level. A level that closed minded people could never think of. I appreciate your clarification of assimilation. It doesn't always have to be in terms of black and white.

  • people need to see whats in front of them,...look at the world, you have people of differant races in all countrys, the cultures of the world have to some point have meshed.

  • Just to let everyone know.We are at the root of american culture. Much of what is 'AMERICAN' comes thru us and was created by us. Do not be misled, We do not have to assimilate anywhere because this is ours. WE OWN THIS. They pervert and twist the truth and history and make you think that you do not belong when in fact we were here before most of them. Stop thinking like NEGROES!

  • Let the truth be told!

  • Shalawam!

  • Shalom ach!

  • also it's a common sense thing when have you ever damaged something and the time you take to fix it is shorter than the time you took to break it. Think about it. Also all these comments are response to mostly the last minute of you video. I just could not agree with that.

  • There are many things that I have fixed faster than I broke. When I was younger I used to put glue in a keyhole at my school just to mess with the teachers' heads. I did it everyday for a week. When I was finally caught it took me just a few minutes to remove enough glue to have the door working again. I understand the ideology behind your statement though.

  • I agree that black men needs to build their own towns and nations also have our own government. Because as long we live here we have to assimilate to the American culture and system. Black people needs to stop waiting for the white man! And do things there own! DreamReborn you are right because after slavery we blacks had skills and good families also because of segregation we build black towns until it was destroyed by a white mob. Slavery is not the reason it's racism, feminism and poverty.

  • i do not agree!

  • then driveru2 why dont you agree? We are not slaves now. remember after slavery we immediately built black wall street also George Washington Carver was an slave but this black man became a great agricultural scientist. Now can you explain why these aimed so high even though they were slaves? Todays blacks are suffering because of ghettos, gangs, single moms, feminism, racism, white supremacy on television, and dysfunctional families also drugs.

  • that is the reason why we are in the shape that we are because we don't no are culture!

  • Now this.

Black People Spirit has been Cut And scarred.

Now take those time increments and change them. seconds to years, days to centuries, and weeks/months to whatever. Trust me Blacks are far from getting over the effects of slavery. your way off with that.

  • That's your opinion. My question to you is, "When will we be healed?"

Another question, "Why did you have to post my video in a bulletin disrespecting me?" I thought this was a civilised conversation. This is where you people lose me. Why do you have to act like children when someone has a different opinion from you?

  • you cut someone right(seconds), now they have a wound, it bleeds, it gets bandaged,it heals(days),then there is a scar that might not go away for (weeks or even months).

    READ THAT CAREFULLY.

  • Or the scar may never even go away. I get what you are saying but we differ when it comes to "helping yourself". Even though there are still people out there who have it as there life goal to make a black man's life miserable, it does not mean that we can't continue moving forward in life. That's all that I am saying.

  • slaverys effects have worn off a long time ago WTF are you saying. Dude it's math Blacks enslaved 400 to 500 years.

The effects wear of in 50 to 100 years. do you hear yourself. Last time I checked if you break something or hurt someone it takes at least 3 timaes as long to heal. so the effects of slavery are far from worn off in our people. Do you hear yourself?

Simple At 7:12 thats some BULLSHIT.

  • What data are you using to come up with the opinion that it takes at least 3 times the amount of time it took to break something, to heal it? As I said in the video, slavery is not affecting any of us today as much as racism is.

  • also why are you down on black people so badly You mean to tell me If we as a people put alot of work and effort into creating our own state we wouldn't live there. because of lack of resources. you dumbass. we're some of the most resourceful people on the planet. We'll make enough for everybody to live on. WTF?

  • Did you really need to do the childish name calling? Remember, this is just my opinion. I never said this fact. Just my opinion. What you said is also your opinion and I respect it. BTW, what is the criteria you used to determine that we are the most resourceful people. I am not doubting you. I just would like to know how you came up with that opinion.

  • I believe black people would not live in their own state if this was reality. This has been proven time and time again all over the world. For example, are there only Jews in Israel? NO. Do most Jews live in Israel? No.

  • Those damn impostors ashkenazi are pretending to be you. Your Israel & that is ur land over there.

It's not time yet for us to leave America. A few prophecies has to be fulfill.

  • I honestly don't know what your angle is. I don't claim any land but the land I own. I also claim Trinidad and Tobago as my homeland and Africa as the homeland and birthplace of my ancestors.

  • Your ancestors settled in Africa after the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. There's numerous information that was hidden from you about so-called blacks & native slaves.

My angle is to tell you our ppl true history. Also, your from the tribe of Bejamin.

  • Thats right.

  • The Psychological Side effects of slavery and genocide are also hurting alot of nonwhites along with the white supremacists power structure. It is not safe to try and separate slavery and white supremacy. Slavery was a tool of white supremacy and there is psychological residue that we got from that 400 to 500 year treatment. it still affects us today. Do you hear what your saying?

  • What are you arguing with? Honestly, I don't know.

  • good vid Dream..i share alot of your views. White Supremacy/Racism is the big problem.

  • I whole heartedly agree with you on assimilation but I think you mean to say reparation not reservations it a difference also the effect of slavery still linger in the black community and i could almost spend all day showing and telling you what they are.

  • I said reparations. Probably my accent.

  • Give me 1 example of its effects lingering today.

  • Sure! okay have you ever heard of Willie Lynch? Before I go any further,so I can make sure were on the same page.

  • Wille Lynch is fake. It has been debunked by numerous scholars. Please don't bring it up.

  • What!!!!!!!! excuse my language but are you fuckin serious!!!!!!!!

  • Yes it has been EXPOSED as a hoax. look it up here on youtube.

  • Excuse that brother. He would believe anything that excuses his inability to excel in life.

  • The Dream Reborn ha!!!! ..... More like a fairy tale! You know I see why they sent that dog on you jerk. How dare you come at me with that bull, "Excuse that brother. He would believe anything that excuses his inability to excel in life" You do not even know me. But you know what its okay you think you know what America is all about, just got off the fuckin bananna boat. But you just keep on livin here your in for a rude awakeing....

  • Are you serious?

  • This Is A Good Video I Just Want This Guy Dream To Honor And Respect The Sick Of Derrick Davidson Fund And Donate. I Want To Leave America So Spread The Word And Donate.

  • You don't have to trade in your religion, you dont have to eat the same food, you dont have to like the same sports. But when people cant understand your words, you need to change it, not get rid of it(eg. Working in the control tower at the airport directing pilots.) Assimilation doesnt need to be a giant step, but you need to recognize what has already been set and what you need to function in that kindof environment.

  • Funny that you mention the Airport Control Tower. Last night I was playing my Flight Simulator online and the guy in the Control Tower was giving directions. To someone familiar with aviation it's easy to understand, but it's another language to people who are not familiar. For them to understand us, they have to assimilate.

  • my comments do not make sense if they are not read as a one whole argument.

Malifx the arab position has nothing to do with the current perspective of poverty. In order to unite people have to unite against an external factor+ arabs have always considered Africans as inferior. That's why ask this question.

  • I wasnt tyring to put arab and poverty in one basket. My point was, people see africa as poor and weak, and it doesnt matter if they are black arab or white, if they have no strong association to who they are or if they are just ignorant they wont put themself in the same group as african people even though who they are is looking right bakc at them in the mirror.

  • I know this is idealistic and people are suffering NOW and need support NOW. You cannot expect a sprinter to run a race from which he has been banned for years, a period during which another contestant intentionally broke his leg, and to immediately get into the race. He needs to be convalescent first and has to overcome additional hurdles.

But is assimilation nevertheless not worth a try?

  • I believe assimilation[to a point] is worth it when you go from what you have and what was put inplace for you, to something completely different. But when it comes to solving your own problems you only need to do what you think is right weather its cooprerating with a group of people your parents have disliked for generatinos or shutting yourself out from outside influences while you tackle your own problems.

  • Your Constitution gives you the right to wear and express yourself as you wish. This has enabled Afro-American culture to dominate US urban lifestyle thanks to their creativity. The achievement is huge, coming from an imposed cultural mish-mash and an almost extinct cultural background blacks have made their mark. Now imagine that you were to assimilate and succeed. What would be the result, you would get cultural/economic/political influence.

  • Assimilating to society is not wrong as MrStormE said in his video response. Getting a job and becoming a law abiding citizen is something every country will ask you to do ( TheDreamreborn ). If these laws are unjust to a section of society than people should stand up and challenge them legally, as MLK did (from Forchangemovement video 7.30 min.). However as MrStormE rightfully put it assimilation should be selective.

  • Take for example Saudi Arabia, one of the last countries to abolish black slavery (1960 or 61). In this country blacks are considered the same as Arabs; some even become ministers. But those blacks, some of whom are pitch black, have a problem, they don't consider themselves as afro-Asians, they see themselves as pure Arabs and reject (finding it insulting) any link to Africa. Is this mental confusion?

  • I can't say for sure because I've never had a black or arab person tell me. But from what I hear/understand because of Africa's(many countries considered the same from outsiders perspective) position in the world as a poor group of people many don't want to be associated with a constant failure, so the fact that they know nothing and feel nothing for their origin leads them to disassociate with that part of themself.

  • I've spoke to african and I see almost no different in the way i lived in jamaica compared to how some of them live. And I know where I'm from and why i'm where i'm at now so for me to look down on an african, to me it would be the worst thing I could do to myself. I believe its education, if you're only been shown one aspect of life why could you believe there are other possibilities, only education will enable you look farther.

  • It becomes more complex when one deals with a whole community but there is a still similar conclusion to be drawn.

The Afro American community had, and has, to face difficult challenges. Racism was the ideology that enabled the existence of slavery in the Americas. It is the same ideology that has repercussion, till this date, that disables blacks from having a normal life in most of the American countries. And no I don't believe slavery has anything to do with it.

  • I have lived in several countries of Europe and Africa and had to assimilate to several societies including Austria, a country where racial bigotry was the norm. By doing this (despite the difficulties) I enriched myself, my world view changed every time I moved from a place to another. But this did not change my identity; I am still a Congolese who has the interest of my country at heart.

  • I am aware that this subject is a sensitive one and would therefore like people to consider my comments as that of a third party observing from distance.

  • As for my comment on this video. When most people think of assimilation they think of a complete change, which it dosent have to be. The level of performance has been established in the wester world. If you cant to change it you're looking a a feat that will take years to achieve. Its either do whats required to get you where you need to be or dont do it, its not your choice to make how you do it because the plane was not created by you for you.

  • As for the slavery thing, I dont want to be an ass but alot of you are sounding like victims. There are so many oppertunities and choices you can make to get to a good place in life that I refuse to believe the world is working against me. I have and can see all the wrong choice people make and their inability to change to make life better.

  • I'm from Jamaica and now living in Canada and I make sure I speak propper english because practice makes perfect and I'll make sure the same goes for my kids. We live in the west there is no reason not to do it right. If I spoke broken english wherever i went and people constantly tell me they cant understand me I'll likely go back home if it was a big enough problem for me to change instead of accusing people of trying to change my culture.

  • I hope most of you know its been tested over and over again that if your kids don't hear a vast variety and proper variety of words it will affect them in school when it comes to language, I don't think anyone can doubt that it does affect alot of kids in the black community right now. Math etc is average but when it comes to writing, speaking and reading english is the biggest issue.

  • I agree. Proper words start sounding wrong to them when they hear it.

  • Slavery is still alive and present in Black America. It's just a different form of slavery. We are slaves to Corporate America. They have successfully capitalized and trademarked the image of what they think "Black America" should be into their own agenda.

We are now making these people richer than our enslaved ancestors from Africa ever did working on a plantation.

  • cont.

Yes, Racism too. Institutionalized Racism. If all you see on "Black Entertainment Television" is 50 cent, Young Jeezy, and Cam'ron then a weak minded individual would think that's what black people are all about,

It's called B.E.T So it must be for black people right? Wrong.

  • You are absolutely right. No matter who we are, if we migrate to another culture, it is our responsibility to assimilate. If not, then we will reamain outsiders. If we do not wish to assimilate, then why migrate in the first place? I like your attitude.

  • Intergration did much more harm than good for us.

Assimilating into the best of west Arfican norms and cultures would be the most beneficial thing for us.

  • Good vid but slavery lead 2 racism racism and slavery are 2 different things but racism is a symptom of slavery but the only thing that's holding us down keeping us back is PARENTS who wanna preach this non-sense 2 children that white people hate you which is in a way true 2 a certain degree & todays black leaders who promote this idea of be the victim play the victim & you'll win which lead 2 the whole acting white mentality

  • Good Point on this brother:)

  • I agree that assimilation is a natural act, but only to an extent. History shows that minorities have long been made to give up too much of their born selves for the sack of assimilating into white coulture. While white coulture just keeps upping the bar to keep equality out of our hands.

  • Excellent video! Embrace & Respect...

  • Adapting into a culture can be difficult but I find here in the UK if people are given time they adapt but I love london as you can see and hear people from every culture talking in there own language and dress but can easily cross into the local culture, I know there are issues there always will be but given time things will find balance.

  • Good point about Slavery vs. Racism. I dont know if the after effects of slavery are gone. There would be no way for us to tell. But, I do think that your point is still valid. Racism has been much more of a problem for this generation than any long lasting after effect of slavery.

  • What I meant by "the effects of slavery are gone" is, I don't see any black people being enslaved today. I have yet to see a black person chained up and deprived of his freedom in my lifetime. The only enslavement I see with some black people is when they enslave their own minds.

  • Slavery is the root of racism..without slavery there would not be racism. The effects of slavery are still here..you just mentioned one..mental enslavement. If you can enslave one's mind..that is wayyyy more powerful than putting chains on them physically. Also make sure that you know the different types of assimilation, because there is more than one type.

  • There would still be racism no matter what. Slavery is not the only cause of racism.

  • Well I am not talkint about what if's or conjectures. In America slavery IS the root of racism. Yes there could be other causes of racism but AA's dont have the luxury to find out what that is. Now when I move to a country that has racism and no slavery then maybe my argument will change.

  • The flaw in this argument is that there is racism right here in America that has absolutely nothing to do with slavery. Racism against Asians, Against Hispanics, Italians, etc etc... These groups were not slaves but they have experienced their fair share of racism as well... Slavery is not the root of racism towards these groups.

  • I believe it is indeed a result a racism that was aimed at AA's first.Asians, Hispanics, Italians all experience a form of racism that is a direct result of slavery in America. Hmmmmmmm

  • How can you link the two MzSuzuki? How can you link racism, for other races, to slavery?

  • Capitalism is the root of Racism :-)

  • So my question to you is when did Racism begin? What did it stem from? Because when the first settlers arrived here and saw the Indians they didn't initially bring any racist ideas with them or Did they? They openly talked, traded and socialized with people who were from a different race.

  • Racism began at the beginning of civilization. Slavery was practiced before Africans were enslaved and it had nothing to do with racism, and everything to do with class. When the Italians and Irish came to America they experienced racism, but they were not slaves.

  • I dont believe in enslaving a persons mind. That would imply that someones mind is strnger than mine and somehow overpowered my wea unintelligent brain.

My Jedi Mind Tricks Analogy seems fitting for this discussion. "They only work on the weak minded" I dont believe that our minds are inferior to theirs so that mental slavery thing just doesnt sit well with me.

  • I have talked to parents who's minds are enslaved..they do not want anything better for their children. They make their children babysit instead of attending tutoring, they don't encourage their children to read or save. Now there are AA's who don't succumb to those Jedi Mind Tricks but for everyone AA who doesn't succumb, I can show you an AA who has.

  • Okay yes there are people who are unmotivated and stuck in poverty who seem hopeless. Im sure that it has roots in racism(past or present) but dont you think that calling it mental slavery is a bit over the top?

  • The truth is that these people have a set of beliefs about themselves. Everyone has beliefs. Think about religions. People can believe them or not. There are hopeless whites who pass on their beliefs of poverty from generation to generation. Not because of slavery but because its a belief passed on from generation to generation.

  • Wouldnt it be better to call them what they are? "Belief systems"... That way we dont give so much credit to the racists. I think that calling it mental slavery makes us look inferior. It makes it seem as if our minds have been conquered by superior minded individuals. You and I both know that we arent inferior... So lets stop talking as though we were...

  • I beg to differ. Blacks dont own TV channels or control the news, whites do. & those that do use that power to control what is shown & how ppl r viewed. The powers that be enslave our minds thru the media everyday, showing us whas cool in style & whats coming up next. They mentally enslave us by limiting our images on TV, while perpetuating their own.

  • We do own & sell channels. We also decide what to watch. No one forces you to watch TV. You made a choice to watch it. We also make our own straight to DVD movies as well as youtube videos & our own books. As i have pointed out before... Even when we are in control of everything, there is still a good portion of negative crap being put out FOR US BY US...

  • Its easy to point the blame when you dont want to accept any responsibility. Granted the media, at times, has portrayed us in a negative light. But, we must also accept some responsibility. "Its a 50/50 bet Sam!"

  • I'll take responsiblity for what we do to ourselves, but thats not the root of it the white ruling class is. Almost every misdeed by an underprivileged minority can in some reasonabl way be traced back to the oppression that individual faced at the hands of the white ruling class, even if its just a case of not seeing enough ppl like him in promenient roles on TV.

  • Other than BET what channels do we own. & deciding what to watch is made easy when thats all there is. Yes a small percentage of us have something near comparable to white counter-parts but by in large its not so. & even so theres still a white figure above that waiting to say yay or nay to what gets released & when.

  • "We" don't own BET. When "we" owned BET it was just as bad as it is today with the exclusion of Teen Summit.

  • & why is that, becuz videos r a reflection of the songs played on the airwaves, & who controls that?

  • why your vids about blacks ? u hate blacks ? dont lie

  • This is a perfect example of an ignorant comment which has nothing to do with the video.

  • He doesn't hate blacks he is just making vids because that is his personal choice

  • okay!!!!!

  • Yeah I agree with this.I think mannny American Africans have problems in thier life racially that they themselves caused.I mean some of the most racist people towards Black people and "blackness" are themselves American Black people. They are what I call culturally incorrect.

  • I got an email from a white woman on myspace who told me she is racist towards black people because of her prior experiences with some of us, most of which are negative unfortunately. Slavery and the other dirty deeds done to our ancestors by her ancestors had nothing to do with her "racist" feelings.

  • Thats funny becuz with all that I've faced at the hands of whites I probably shud feel the same way about whites that she feels about blacks. But thats not logical, efficient but not logical, becuz in the end its wrong to blame all for the acts of some and worse to carry out that blame with hatred & racism.

  • how do you know this what studies or sources?? U cannot make assumptions as though they are FACT!! The same problem you've just stated exist in ALL races!! Lets not forget abt poor white trash vs whites?? Does it ring a bell! This problem exist in ALLLLLLLLLLLL CULTURES!!! GET IT RIGHT!!

  • That's true.

  • YES people tend tend to believe to quickly what they hear you know! Media only puts certain races in spotlight to be seen and laughed at; rarely do they put whites in the media and a select other few, but always black/Hispanics it seems!! PEOPLE THINK!! haha problems exist in ALL! Just that it is highlighted more by media in other races!!

  • rarely do they put whites in the media is that a joke??

  • Hmm...i'm trying really really hard to come up with a counter argument to that but nothing comes to mind. I agree with pretty much everything you said.

As for racism holding down the black man...yes. That is why i don't think like that anymore. When you just look at people as just people then the world is a much much more pleasant place because it is a fact that we are just people.

  • Don't worry, I expect a few people to come up with silly counter arguments soon. I have a small opposition group who always manage to find an argument within my videos. Thanks for viewing.

  • Once again, great job DreamReborn! I totally agree with every word spoken on this video. Assimilation is a matter of survival, not selling out, or denouncing your nationality or race.

  • Interesting.

  • Thanks for viewing.
