  • This guy is a genius. B&A has revolutionized my design skills.

  • I wish John sat next to me at work!

  • @bamagazine Thanks that is so cool! I use ID/PSD all day and I would have never guessed that was a prime component of the video. Excellent work!

  • This was great! What software did you use to create the video... I love the annotations.. very unique for this style tutorial.

  • Thank you @bluehz. Video from the camera is imported directly into iMovie. Still graphics are created in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop at full size, 1920 x 1080 pixels (16:9 ratio), then imported into iPhoto and from there into iMovie, where titles and transitions are added and the video is composed. The finished video is uploaded, tagged and closed-captioned (a cool, free YouTube feature) on our YouTube channel.

  • @bamagazine Excellent - thx for the info - what did you do to do the dashed line around the photo at approx 1:30.

  • @bluehz Three InDesign graphics, with dotted line segments pointed out the phantom frame.

  • That was great and very helpful! Simplicity is usually the best.

  • John, I had already learned that lesson from the print version (I'm a subscriber). But I really have to say: what's even better about these videos than the excellent content is the friendliness and warmth you bring across. It's so good to hear you explain these things. Thanks a lot!

  • Perfect!

  • John, this is GREAT! Love this stuff. Just subscribed to B&A.

  • Lovely. The only thing I don't like is that there's still a line of separation between the photo and the dark-colored top section. Would a gradient perhaps be better?

  • @da5idnz That was kind of bugging me too. I'd probably put a line across there bleeding off the left and the right.. probably in the same color as the title. That might look nice.

  • Beautiful!

  • I love my B&A magazine subscription and it has only been enhanced by your video series. So thank you for another informative and creativity-provoking vid.

  • Thank you for yet another simple, yet beautiful design. I love Before & After. Everything I know about design, I learned from John McWade.

  • Looks great, like always!

  • Just beautiful! Thank you :)

  • When that text block got aligned I went "Niiice!" out loud.

  • awesome idea

  • Awesome, so glad I subscribed to this channel!
