I swam over there once after missing the last ferry. I had bought a small motorbike on the mainland and had to carry it on my back. It was hard work but I made it. My white safari suit was ruined.
Lovely video, but why have you chosen English/ West Country Music, more fitting for Morris Dancers - when we have such great Scottish tunes like "Over the Sea to Skye"????
@pippilottalill -- it's nautical -- I saw a cartoon in a tourist book of skye. It had a notice on a tour bus that said -- Thank you for not singing the Skye Boat Song.
Looks like a trip to remember. I wonder how my grandfather would have crossed this body of water in the early 1800s? I shall one day travel to the birthplace of my Great grandfather Donald McLennan, who left for Canada in 1851.
even the time when the gearbox 'broke' and she went for an involuntary trip doon ra watter had a happy ending.
Been on her many a time and haven't had ma feet wet yet.
I first met that wee ferry when she was plying the crossing at Ballachulish before the bridge was built there, many years ago. it isn't just a coincidence that the wee ferry's name is Glenachulish, by the way.
Great! I`ve lost track of the number of times I`ve conned my wife, while staying in Plockton, to head out to the Harbour View Inn in Portree, via the Glenelg Ferry. (Only the Beallach na Ba freaks her out more than the road to Glenelg...) Unfortunately, the last two attempts were met with disappointment, as the ferry was broken down and they had not yet posted the sign up on the A87 resulting in quite a scramble to Portree.
Thanks for your postings; next best thing to being there, and free!
Been on it about 4 times, i have a video of my last trip 2007, with Terry Nutkins my girlfriend and a crazy dog on the ferry.

Glenelg to Kylerhea ferry. Been on it many times. My cousins John & Alastair Martin used to operate it in the late 50's.

Near Glen Elg is Bernera barracks, one of a chain of forts built in the wake of the Jacobite risings to remind us of our Hanovarian masters.

I think I'll give that ferry a miss. Looks a bit scary. Nice tune though.
