  • I love the arrangement! Nice tone too

  • There is still people reflected in this picture in somewhere in earth. With that alone I am impressed whether there is that I thought about such a thing.

  • I`m a singer to at a thenorhorn ...but is a roy beyson one and have ugly sound...i wish to have a thenorhorn like that ...

  • Great performance. I also play the principal tenor horn in a brassband from the Netherlands. I'd like to play this piece with our band. Where can I get the sheet music of it? Please respond me!

  • @PetraJanita2 You should be able to find it by googling.

  • Lovely

  • it's possible to have the music papers?

  • Nicely played.

  • Wow, thats just gorgeous, it made me want to cry girl, i also play euphonium. :) ^_^

  • Vickie, it's probably been a while since this was posted. I hope you are still playing the tenor horn. Not because it is a tenor horn, but because you play with a lot of sincerity. Nothing else matters -- nothing -- when you are able to play with real sincerity. The camera work and editing was as good as your performance, and it took all of you to put this over with the equipment you had. This was an absolutely world-class job, and I hope you are inspired to do a few more vids like this.

  • Con't (sorry for the double post) This young lady embodies all of the emotional aspects on the TH as a TENOR HORN. i hope to attempt the same, albeit in an more improvisitory context, with the occasional Arban's melodies. Very fine emotional control, clams and all, over a simple arrangement. And the video captures her mise-en-scene for all of us to see. i sincerely hope to hear more from this player. Best wishes, Dr. Michael Missiras

  • I am an early retired U prof in the States now living in Paris. I am a trumpet player, and added Bb/Eb cornet 3 years ago. Last Sept., after thinking a lot, I added the tenor horn to the mix. I really don't want to hear about puffed cheeks-i want to hear good music performed well. I've listened to a fair amount of White/Farr and what i hear is cornet on the TH. This piece of music, clams and all is from the heart-all of the jazz altered notes in the arr. are heard by this young lady.

  • nice, but i wish she didn't puff her cheeks out, not really a great thing to be doing

  • @DrCrazyKA A bad habit I know....but there are world class brass musicians who puff their cheeks out......hoping the music makes up for it.

  • @Vickdogg007 i dont dispute that and the music does make up for it :)

  • What is her name? I want to listen others records from her.

  • @welingtonmatias

    Hi there,

My name is Vicki Henderson, but unfortunately this was only a one-off...sorry to disappoint!! :o) Glad you enjoyed though! :o)

    Kind Regards,

    Vicki

  • @Vickdogg007

Yes, I liked your record very much! I think that you play very well and you're a funny girl. Please, record more! hehe

    Hugs.

  • Very good! I'll buy a tenor horn because I watched this video! Really!

I only knowed the alto horn and I don't like it, but know I know this wonderful timbre!

    Thanks so much!

  • I was debating whether to start the trumpet, the trombone, or the tenor horn. After this video, I am totally going for the tenor horn! What an inspiration!

  • didn't know alto horns could sound this nice.... well done.

  • I play cornet but my brass teacher says if i want to i can change and do tenor horn instead because the mouthpiece is bigger and I am not fitting my whole mouth into the mouthpiece or something :)

  • excelente !!! muy lindo

  • you shouldnot play that unless your in ga like me so yea

    sounds better in bass clef

  • Only a fool would not enjoy such a beatiful piece of music. :)

  • That´s nothing. Wonna whatch a real Tenor Horn solo?? Than klick this Video from the Best Orchestra on Earth: Vlado Kumpan - Eine Gämse in den Bergen

  • @IShotTheSheriff2204

This video was not added to be compared to or compete with other Tenor Horn Solos, and purely for the enjoyment of the listener. Thank you for listening to my "REAL" Tenor Horn Solo.

  • @Vickdogg007 if you can´t handle with criticism, I would not upload videos in youtube.

  • @IShotTheSheriff2204

If you look at who loaded this it wasn't I that has uploaded video. And if you were to read through other comments you would realise I don't mind criticism at all, I just didn't appreciate you implying that my tenor horn solo or performance was not a 'real' one.... :o)

  • this is an Eb alt horn ... not Eb tenor..

  • @kovaxtromb America = Eb alto horn. Europe = Eb tenor horn. Same instrument.

  • @kovaxtromb Eb Alto-Eb Tenor == same horn.....

  • @trumpetmano

okay.. let's make it clear.. those instrument tuned to Eb are in the register of alto treble, no matter what kind of instrument they are.. for instance that sax tuned to Eb called alto sax ( one octave lower> bariton sax ) .. the expression of ,,alto tenor'' itself doesen't make sense.. alto and tenor are different things... alto is above tenor... right? other examples> alto trombone is in Eb .. it is not tenor tormbone.. alt sax is not tenor sax.. alt horn is not tenor horn :)

  • @kovaxtromb1982 LIsten......I play a Eb Tenor horn and it is THE SAME EXACT HORN THE EUROPEANS CALL AN Eb ALTO HORN.........

  • @trumpetmano

Correct!! Not sure why the argument below but the Alto Horn and Tenor Horn are the same instrument, just called different things in different countries.

  • great!!congrats

  • That was really nice, but why do so many players hold their horns in the laziest way possible? It's not like it weighs 30lbs. You've got two hands for a reason. Hold it up.

  • Spectacular

  • Spectacular Congratulations :D

  • BRASS RULES. I'm a Trumpet player but I just started learning Euphonium and I LOVE IT! I wish I could join your group. You seem like a great bunch.

Sending you love from America. :)

    Marcus

  • Tenor Horn WOOOP!!!!! People need to know about this instrument.

  • @benp2207

Ha Ha!! Hell yes!! Go the Tenor Horn!! Been playing it for 20 years now!! And wouldn't change at all!!

    Kind Regards,

    Vicki Henderson

  • 2#s

  • Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

  • Nice Tune, nice instrument. Vicky you are - super)))

  • Thanks for your comments!! Much appreciated! :o)

    Kind Regards,

    Vicki

  • your one playing it is pretty hot

  • @slsoxwewssd

Thanks!! Great to know I'm playing out there on someone's mobile phone! ;o)

  • What company makes a good intermediate model alto horn? I want to buy one.

  • @bdm8319

For me personally, I went straight to a professional model, especially if you are considering to purchase one yourself. There is a tendancy to outgrow an intermediate one for most, so I would suggest looking at a professional sovereign model personally. Maybe go into a supplier or look around first, it's all about personal preference really.

    Regards,

    Vicki

  • What a great song. It sounds like it was made for the Tenor Horn.

Takes me back to when I used to play as a teenager. I should really play again, because I think I'd have more patience now as an adult to practice.

    Good video.

  • @indiaXray

Thanks for that...and you should take it up again! It's an awesome instrument! :o)

  • does he say "stupid bitch" at around 3:04

  • No, he says "stupid pitch"

  • hey you can puff your cheeks if you want you sound great let the music live very nice job well done much respect A++++++++++++++++++++

  • @tubadanthemusicman

Thanks for your comments!! :o) Yay! Someone who doesn't care about the cheeks!! Thank you so much!

  • WoW nice playing!

    I play Tenorhorn, too

but please do not puff up your cheeks

sorry for the bad grammar (I'm German)

    lg

    Janni<33

  • @JanniXBunny

I have always puffed my cheeks out....I've played for 20 years now so fat chance of that changing.

  • Ahhh Horn! I wish we used these in America more often... it's really a great insturment

  • Hey Vicky, nice playing. What was this footage part of? A tour / CD recording? And is that Perth in the background? The band sounds great. What year was it recorded? Bruce Myers

  • Hi Bruce,

Recording was from a performance on the ABC Radio, live broadcast, and the footage was taken throughout the recording and at out local pizza place down the road from the band room. And not Perth I'm afraid....it is the Melbourne. Recorded in 2004 while I was living over there for a short time. Now living back home in New Zealand.

    Kind Regards,

    Vicki

  • wow! that'a what the instument is called. i been wanting to know for years. i am 11 and i've played it since i was 7. i love playing it as well.

  • amazing =O just one thing though...it looked like the soloist was puffing out her cheecks and my teacher says not to do this...confused :S

  • Nope, puffing cheeks is forbidden! But, it's better to continue with it if you have been doing so .. since you started. It's just unnecessary cuz you have to train some muscler just for nothing (I think xD).

  • Hi there,

Yeah bad habit of mine.....the idea is not to puff your cheeks out.....try not to! Practice in front of the mirror can help heaps! Happy practicing!!

  • Hi, I have been playing the tenor horn for over a year now. I am 9 years old at the moment.

    Super playing!

  • /care :P

  • Really nice arrangement, and well played, showing off the lyricism of the tenor/alto horn.

  • I have been playing trumpet for seven and I thought this was an amazing performance. Even though I am not in the heavy brass section, I loved the way the solo was played out with the tenor.

  • she needs to control he cheeks when playing, she puffs them out rather than keeping them in. A professional will always do this. Good song though, well played. I play tenor horn, been playing for 5 years

  • @wiihaward94

Aslong as she has control and it sounds this good, what does it matter? Dizzy Gillespie sure didn't keep his cheeks in.

  • I don't think Diz COULD keep his cheeks in. But you sure proved him wrong about what a "professional will always do". Zing!

  • i play french hron and tenor horn ...... their both completly different. but its interesting to play both of then because im in a military band, a brass band , and an orchestra. shes pretty good. i have that tenor horn myself . i was playing a besson student "gold brass" but the soverign is sooo much better.

  • At 3:05 A guy makes the comment "Stupid Bitches" - ruins a fine solo performance.

  • His words were "Stupid Pitches".....

  • Hi, thanks for your correction. I sure hope you're right. I really enjoyed the video and from past playing experience would hate to know she put in so much work only to have it tainted like that. I had an accident that messed up the right side of my mouth so I can't play anymore but I really like the sound of the alto in the hands of someone who plays well like she does. Again, a fine solo performance!

  • Thanks for the comments! :o)

    Kind Regards,

    Vicki

  • VERY nice Wally & co.! Proudly made in Melbourne....

  • Fantastic playing and a great video too !! - Thanks

  • how long have you been playing it?

  • Does that have the same fingerings as a french horn?

  • no, the tenor horn has a different valve structure

  • The tenor horn is so under rated

  • I agree

  • wow

  • I always listen to this video once a day. Thank you.

  • great song!

  • You made Hoagy proud. With that tone, you could really go places. Here in Nashville, we have a Jazz club which features a Jazz Bassoon. Your horn would be welcome anytime. Thank you dear.

  • YES!! the best recording of a tenor horn ive ever heard!

    god that was gorgeous.

  • Thanks! :o)

  • Well done everyone, excellent work! Long live the tenor horn!

  • you av a brill sound how long u been playing for???? and where can i get this music from as i need a new solo

  • Hi there musicrhixx....been playing for 20 years so most of my life, and thank you for your kind words! :o) Vicki

  • Our band has got this, on trombone as well tenor horn and i can tell you the trombone is part is a lot harder to play!

  • Lovely piece of music well played!!, Im a tenor horn player, do you know where I can get the music from?

  • :) thanks

  • This is a classic arrangment for brass band, the solo part comes in both Eb tenor horn and Bb trombone version. I would expect you would have no problems ordering it at any music shop. Does anyone out there know the publisher?

  • Hello there,

You were supposed to be sending me a copy of this??? Any chance you could scan and email the score and parts? Was talking to Wally last year at nationals and said that he would do it for me...pretty please :op

  • Beautiful! I just got a tenor horn and it's awesome to see that the best tenor horn video i've found on here is from Melbourne! I'll have to look out for you guys or come and see a rehearsal one day.
