  • I remember seeing this on TV and loving this voice and the beautiful woman it belonged to.D'Angelo never got the attention she deserved as an artist. She had everything required for superstardom technique, instrument, looks, but she got lost iin the shuffle at the Met and never made it to the first rank of Divas though she, sang in every major house, made recordings and did TV.She did not attain the heights of Peters or Sills or Moffo. .

  • Cántame una y otra vez y tantas veces, que yo pueda volver a mis mejores sueños.

  • actually, the original version she had sung in 1958 was over six minutes. This one was the edited version of the play I guess, just to fit on TV or video. But, it's a beautiful opera piece.

  • Man! I just can't sleep without watching this. BEAUTY!

  • This is the softest voice and clear I've ever heard. Very natural voice, not forced (like if the mouth were full of oranges, because this is the problem of all the classical singers). She's impecable. Do not yell, fluent and delightful to hear. Really the best soprano. With her I understand all the words with clarity and coloraturas are impressive. Perfect, extremely fast without the slightest error and without any effort to sing.

  • her semiramide is so good,i love her great singer not much mantions around about her pity.

  • I have had the original Columbia LP of the opera with her and Tucker for years and the program notes state she is of Slavic Stock, American and I forget her name but it was not d' angelo-- was that her married name? or is that a stage name? the recording of the opera was made in 1958 in good sound .

  • does anybody know is there a video of her singing Barber?

  • Magnificent! Madame d'Angelo's is a charming and exquisite Gilda - a beautiful voice and technical excellence exemplified by remarkable agility and a heavenly ability to sustain notes and phrases. For those interested in her studio recording of Rigoletto with Richard Tucker, it has been released on CD by Great Opera Performances - a must own for her admirers!

  • I've always admired Gianna d'Angelo's voice and singing and agree with your commentary. She and Roberta Peters were two star coloraturas I recall fondly from my youth. They both vied with Lily Pons, then toward the end of her career.

  • It is very interesting the disparity of criterion brings over of Gianna D'Angelo's singing. Also the number of reproductions is interesting. On having spoken about Gianna D'Angelo, let's think that there are many people who does not think as us. I do not believe that nobody that the speech listened, for example between 1958-1963, has found in her any coldness. Who the beech treated, not much feeling.

  • What a voice, technique... Great Gilda

  • I have been wrong on having counted negatively. I have wanted to count positively

  • that´s ok! ;)

  • Ice skating on the Nile would be the best description of this - it communicates nothing except control. The voice isn't the most exceptionally colorful of coloraturas. Good technique, but who cares?

  • Ice skating on the Nile, eh? Sounds like someone's been reading reviews of Emma Calve's Aida...or was it Emma Eames. Oh those Marchesi pupils start to run together.

  • It was Emma Eames' Aida that was considered cold. She often received such reviews, but at the same time, her voice was tonally pure and, in certain of her recordings, quite expressive.

  • the messa di voce is phenomenal!

  • Exquisite! Madame D'Angelo possessed a cyrstal like brilliance that was both agile and extremely warm. As is apparent in this clip, her ability to sustain notes was superb.

  • Beautifully done, with much charm, and a great messa di voce at the end. Jane Angelovich from Connecticut certainly went a long to become Gianna D'Angelo. A wonderful soprano.
