Looks like you have mounted a solar cell onto a stepper motor.

The circuit board in the back is the stepper motor driver board connected to your PC's parallel port, and you contol it by pressing buttons on your PC keyboard?

Any thoughts on making it automatic aiming w/o external power supply?

Very much state-of-the-art, however I built a tracker which can carry heavy arrays, and made it using old car parts; the sensor has only five parts, including the relay, and it takes about 6 watts of power whenever it moves. No computer, no PLCs. Please take a look.

I would say yes if you used recycled materials for the electronics and motors. The ABS fittings are not very expensive.

The canuckle 2 uses the sunswitch to track and reset. TYou could adapt the sunswitch to the canuckle 1 very easily to give it full function without a computer connection
