my snail has escaped the tank 3 times. once for 4 days, put it back in all dried up and it started moving in about an hour

They don't live on just algea.

You should give it boiled broccoli :) And cucumber, and algaewafers.

But don't take it out of the water. It can get dehydrated.

@annap611 mine will eat anything, lol! we breed blues and blacks, n trust me they eat meat too, when my eel leaves steak behind, they clean up. very short out of water visits are fine( 5 mins or less to clean cages), but try to leave them in an environment that they can submerge completely in water

eatin raw snail is not a good idea even if its a bet with money... it contains bacteria n it cann seriusly kill u. if u kno bout it watch out

They are so cute how could you do that D':> My snails have bonded to me and he sits on my hand and watches movies with me and I give him frosting and pizza and fruit and cake and funnel cake and pudding and ice cream! He is just as much my pet as my cat is. I love the snot out of him. They DEPEND on you why would you do that to them! They deserve a happy life like you do.

@909Dwayne Do what? That was his daily dip and 'social', preceded by a weekly shell polish, garnish and varnish and followed by a lovely slime rub down. His walks do take some time though, which is why they're weekly, the time is takes to complete one. I think I'll retire and devote my life to looking after him.

@sniktawleahcim: my snails haven't last long enough to develop suicidal tendencies. every now and then i find an empty shell floating on the top of the tank or lying on the bottom.

i wonder how the fish managed to drag the snail out of it's shell?

It was probably already dead. They will eat dead fsh they find on the bottom. I have so many scavengers in my tank that if on died while I was at school I would never see it again.

Once I poked the poor fish out of the mouth, it moved. It tried to swim, but couldn't.

The reason is because the snail didnt have enough algea to eat

I once heard of a large snail that ate up all the hair on a woman's head while she was sleeping, so that she ended up bald. Really. (Needless to say, she was shocked and furious.) :)
