can some1 PLZ tell me about some inspiring music? i wamted to write about like a battle preferably sci fi PLZZZZ!!! thx if u have the heart as a fellow writer
It's impossible to post on this queue re/ the Bill Conti music theme for this movie, which is the best. For some reason (undetermined) the web-publisher seems to have license agreements with Luc Besson which, somehow, prevents submitters from commenting in a free press manner about the music theme for the American release of this film. I haven't a clue. It's some of the most beautiful music ever composed for a film.
oh my god, thank you so much for uploading this. i've been looking for this piece of music for 20 years. i still hear it every time i look at the sea.
@wavywaterspark yes i have the US version on VHS, and this is the only version I LOVE!!!!, i have the director's cut on DVD and I hate the soundtrack....
I don't fault Americans for wanting or liking happy endings. There is an element of decadence to European films that insist on sad or sadistic endings just to seem relevant. I think there is a shortage of happiness in this world and I don't want people who are dead inside to inject their disease into my psyche. A happy ending, when it's called for, is no more or less artistic than a sad one. Ajiani poked out her own eyes at the end of Betty Blue . I found that nothing but a weak gimmic.
I don't believe either version intends to have you believe he lives. The American ending is more ambiguous because we sure do like our happy endings, but even when I was ten, I thought to myself "there's no way he can live at the end, it betrays the entire film" or something to that effect.
This movie is the only decent work by Besson. Besson was an absolute idiot to remove the American version from the market. The Bill Conti score is superb.
It's not fair to call Besson an idiot.. after all, he approved the American version to be made with Bill Conti's music. If it wasn't for Luc Besson we wouldn't even be discussing this right now.
You have a point and I retract my harsh comment about Besson. I just wish I could find the darn DVD of the American version. I would buy multiple copies to give as gifts.
@neoperseus Yeah. You are right. Even if he did originally make a great movie, removing the best version from the market was idiotic. The European version sucks, mostly due to the stupid soundtrack which kills the effect of the movie.
"...there's just one more thing...find me the French man (church bell)...find me Jacques Mayol (lower pitch church bell)..." (Enzo Molinari, from 'The Big Blue')
I have the VHS. I also bought the DVD. And on the DVD they have some other soundtrack, it's Jazz. But it's not this original soundtrack. Does anybody know why they did that? The soundtrack playing in this video is the original one, and SOOOO Much better. Thanks so much for posting this version.
The original soundtrack is the jazz Eric Serra version that you are referring to. The Bill Conti soundtrack that you like was added afterwards to the movie for the American market and released as such, but flopped at the box office. Afterwards Luc Besson removed all American versions and replaced all movies with the Eric Serra version.
Basically, Jaque realizes that his place is neither with the dolhpins or humans, so he dies at the end, but you don't see him dying. He swims off with the dolphin, because jaque, along with most genuis's, are usually troubled.

The European version of The Big Blue doesnt have a sad ending. Terms like happy/unhappy are transcended.

I agree with that because it would be totally absurd to believe that Jacques abandoned his love to simply play with a dolphin in the sea.
