Is Golden Axe 3 thought of as a worthy addition to the series,i never got to play it years ago and only did recently by way of the mega drive collection for xbox 360. I had a lot of fun with it,think the new additions to the cast like the lizard and hawk man are pretty cool.

I really enjoyed your review its nice to see a gamer kepeing the old school memories alive. I played the original golden axe on the master system and was really suprised at how much the system was pushed to produce the amazing 8 bit graphics

Great review overall but I am suprised that you didn't compare it more technically with the first game or comment on the very poor voice samples and the fact that alot of the backgrounds look significantly worse than the original.

Man, do you still have the original Box? I miss the Genesis era so much and I regreat a lot the fact I sold my old Genesis and cartridges to harvest money for a PS1...at that time.

Sad to say I've never played a single Golden Axe game before, but the older games in this series look awesome. I'll try them out on one of those Genesis games compilations out for the next-gen consoles.

I must admit when I first played the game, I never realised he was headless on his throne in the intro. It wasn't until the end when he stood up I was like, "Whoooo, scary" lol.

One thing I didn't like about Golden Axe 2 was the difficulty. I found the levels in this game to be more of a grind than the first one.

Hey, I would just like to say it is possible to play Golden Axe II with the six button Mega Drive controller, what you have to do is hold down the "mode" button on the controller before you turn and keep holding it down until you get to the SEGA screen.

I would just like to add that I always used to hold down XYZ as well but I am not sure that you have to, I wish I could test this out but at the moment my Mega Drive is undergoing surgury lol

In order to get the 6 button controller to work you need to hold the "mode" button on the right side of the controller while you turn on the Mega Drive. I think you need to hold it until the intro starts up.

Grate review, I remember hiring Golden Axe from the video store. It's one of those games that I thought I owned because we hired it out so much. But I own it now though.

So are you going to do some of the spin-off's like Axe Battler and Golden Axe Warrior?

I enjoyed this review as any other of yours. I really like your "deep" view on the games and how you treat them with respect and enjoy every aspect of them, fully getting into the virtual world...and not just killing time or searching instant fun kinda like fast food (which is okay too, but there are enough reviews/channels with such approach). I feel like you are telling me a story when you are sharing your experiences, and I enjoy it, even if I never played those games. It's unique. thx.

Great review. Have you ever played Revenge of Death Adder? That to me is the real Golden Axe sequel. Golden Axe 2 for Sega seems like a remake of the original game.

For some reason, and as much as Golden Axe was a massive piece of my childhood, I didn't really enjoy Golden Axe 2. I found the magics and moves to be less appealing and/or impressive. The music was not as memorable either. But it may be because I played Golden Axe 2 some 10 years after the its prequel. By then I had grown up and played so many other games. The excitement just wasn't there.

for some reason that low swipe of the dwarf was one of my favourite attacks in any video game when i was a kid. and the sound effects were awesome.. boko boko!
