DCT uses TWO clutches, where as SMG uses one. And trust me, you would not be driving in the auto-mode if you had an SMG.

Also, as far as speed is concerned... they would need to have to been going 100mph at the start of the race for the M3 to be in its powerband in 4th gear. I know this because 3rd gear tops at 105mph. You can be pretty confident watching the video that they weren't starting out at 100mph.

@linn1000 even W/O tuning 135i is much lighter. Motor trend tested 135i consistently at 4.7 instead of the 5.0/5.1 on their official website. This is a marketing strategy. After all, making a 20K less expensive car that fast on paper won't do BMW any good for selling the M.

135i is so fast espicailly if u get vishnu v3 kit for it, you would look at around 450+ bhp. well more than enough to kill most things (it beat a lamborghini gallardo :P) thats very fast for only 1/5 the price :)

I owned a tuned e92 335i and traded it for a 4 door e90 M3, and have not looked back. There is sooooo much more to a car than the drag time.... and even then, when the M3 is driven correctly, it will still outrun most tuned 135i and 335i's.
the race is among turns, always focusing on a straightline...the v8 loves high rpm, the 135 loves to show off around 2500 3000...this is why 306 is better than 420 in this case...plus the 135 is tuned

@senser1080 Uhh yes, it definitely does. The 4L M3 engine does not like being at low rpm. It does not have much low end grunt. You really have to be high in the RPM range to get it moving to its full potential. The _35i engine builds torque very low in the RPM range, resulting in very strong acceleration over the entire rev band. Starting a race at 2500rpm and calling it a win after 15 seconds is unfair to the M3.

@yannickff Ils sont des américains et je suis sure que cette M3 a une boite SMG, bien sur, fixée dans le mode auto. Les américains ne savent jamais changer les rapports même si cette boite a le mode manuel, très facile a utiliser. Il y a des "padelles" sur le volant "+" pour monter et "-" pour tomber un rapport. Mais il est trop difficile... en Amérique... Ensuite, cette M3, n'est pas une M3 "véritable", elle est une M3 quatre portes.

135i is so fast espicailly if u get vishnu v3 kit for it, you would look at around 450+ bhp. well more than enough to kill most things (it beat a lamborghini gallardo :P) thats very fast for only 1/5 the price :)

please tell me u r kidding. the engine is barely capable of over 400hp tuned (especially without serious internal upgrades)...even when u get close to that number you don't get sub 4.0 sec 0-60's. as awesome as jb3 and procede are..expect 340-370 hp with chips alone.
u will run w/ an m3 chipped, but not with a lambo...come on man

@EvenSteven2004 No, you're stupid, sorry. Thats the point of this race, to show that 135i has a wider powerband, it has max torque at 1500 rpm, and keep that torque almost to the redline, while M3 has high torque on high revs. 135i just accelerates faster in any gear because of its crazy torgue.

@EvenSteven2004 YES. They would race from a roll at lets say 60 kmh in 3rd gear. To see which car pulls faster from low revs, to see which car has a better powerband, and thats what they have done. This video was to prove that 135i accelerates much faster than m3 at low revs, because of its high torque at low revs. Not that i expect you know what torque is, because you definitely dont. Well, you're american, so you probably havent even had physics in your school , so what else to expect.

Notice how different the result was when they raced in 3rd gear at the same road speed. That's because the M3 was more in its powerband during the 3rd gear run. And why is that? drive the cars correctly and see who wins...there is nothing like driving an M vehicle as they are iconic...there is also so much more to a car than straight speed...the feeling you get is what really counts and bmw ///M knows how to make you feel good! you can make any car fast, you can turn a civic into a 800hp 8second car, but most would rather have a 414hp bmw coz it gets more hot bitchesssss :)

I owned a tuned e92 335i and traded it for a 4 door e90 M3, and have not looked back. There is sooooo much more to a car than the drag time.... and even then, when the M3 is driven correctly, it will still outrun most tuned 135i and 335i's.

the race is among turns, always focusing on a straightline...the v8 loves high rpm, the 135 loves to show off around 2500 3000...this is why 306 is better than 420 in this case...plus the 135 is tuned

They are racing the M3 like it has a 135i engine. You cant start the race at 3000 rpm and expect to win. This engine is meant to be run at 5000+.

@senser1080 Uhh yes, it definitely does. The 4L M3 engine does not like being at low rpm. It does not have much low end grunt. You really have to be high in the RPM range to get it moving to its full potential. The _35i engine builds torque very low in the RPM range, resulting in very strong acceleration over the entire rev band. Starting a race at 2500rpm and calling it a win after 15 seconds is unfair to the M3.
