What I was hoping to do when I bought the Rode Podcaster was to use my webcam to produce video and use the Rode for audio. But then I have found that the Rode records as a Wav file and my webcam recording software does not copy as a Wav file. So I have been searching the web for a solution to this problem. Is there webcam software that supports wav files? Or do I need to buy a proper video camera?
If anyone reading this comment has a solution please reply.
I just love the Rode Procaster that I use with the ham radio transceiver that I have. About the difference between the Electrovoice microphones and the Procaster, don't forget the price... Best Regards, Dan YO3IBW
NOT A FAN of the RE-27. It has a nasty buzzy sound to it even though it does bring out the highs. It's just not a good trade off for that ugly buzzy sound you get. The RE-20 is much more pleasing to the ear.
The Procaster has even more highs and lacks the nasty buzzy noise of the RE-20. Considering the fact that the Procaster is half the price of the other two, I think it's an excellent choice.
I bought the Rode Podcaster USB mic And I get some background noise when I record with it, after I apply a gate and some other VST plugins I can get it quiet like a dynamic mic is supposed to be, but that's exactly what I also do with my very loud MXL 990 mic. I bought the Rode Podcaster dynamic mic so I wouldn't have to do any editing of the audio but it turns out I still get background noise and it's not quiet like some other audio tests I've heard, can you help me? My room is very quiet :)
I love your voice Mike but it sounds WAY more smooth with the standard '20. The 27 I feel distorts a bit in the upper mids or something like that. There's some saturation there that's really unpleasant. The Procaster way alright too, perhaps just a bit less lively than the '20.
Mike Mike Mike! Please answer this! I just got the procaster, it makes a lot of hissing noise! What is causing it? I know for a fact it's not the cable, please help me! thanks
Do you have any other pro mic around to compare? I would try to isolate and prove it is the microphone. Is the mic itself noisy or is something in the pre-amp configured for another type of mic?
Check your pre-amp. Be sure the pad (attenuator) is off and you are NOT sending phantom power to the dynamic.
@NewMediaGear Oh I actually am using phantom power, I can't turn it off though. Would that be the cause? I actually had another mic (condenser) and it was just fine with no hissing noise. Thank you soo much for the reply Mike, I know your very busy, I hope you can find the time to reply and let me know if the phantom power is the cause, if not I'll just assume it's the phantom power and try to resolve the issue, thanks again
@NewMediaGear I just tested a really cheap 20 dollar dynamic mic and even that sounded better than the procaster, all the settings should be perfect for the procaster and I even messed with every possible settings, I think it might be that I got a bad mic. Thank you so much for taking some time and helping me Mike, your the best :)
I actually prefer the sound of the re20 in the beginning to the 27. The 27 doesnt have the same clarity as the 20 to my ears anyway. It seems like a dirtier mic.
The procaster sounded great btw, but still i prefered to 20 even if it does have less character.
Hi Mike, Please Answer this question! I'm new to all this audio and microphone stuff and I have a professional condenser mic and It's accessories but what I don't know about is compression, I don't know what it is or does but I have an idea. It's what make the mic sound nice and "broadcast" quality right? Because every microphone you have reviewed sound almost exactly alike. What I wan to know is what the machine behind you is and if that's the "compression" thing you use, also the price of it.
Is the rode podcaster a good option for interviews, 2 people in a podcast? And can you record one person with the rode podcaster and another person with in built mic?
Good vid, thanks for the comparison. It's notable to mention that the Procaster costs around $200 less than the RE20 and the RE27, which is even more expensive.
I love the Procaster.. Use it every day on air... I swap out the SM7 in the studio for the Rode Procaster! Sounds Great on the air! :) And of course I got the shock mount!
How do you post-produce your audio?

Where can I get that 309A shock mount with the big "U" shape bracket? Can it be used with the Rode Procaster?
Thank you for your time

@HakerzTM
Most modern dynamics are fine with phantom, although it's a good habit to use Ph only when needed.
If the cable is ok, can you try another dynamic?
Check levels along the chain. Is there anywhere a level is too low or hot? Any adjustments on the preamp for impedance?
Possible it's a bad mic, but not likely. Let me know how it goes.

Good point - and one I should have mentioned. Currently, the ProCaster is less than half the price of an RE-27.
