yeah funny that Coby headphones sound good in fact I still have a pair and they sound great. the downside to them is the original cord broke but I rebuilt these. the other things is the adjustment part broke but nothing that a little superglue wouldnt fix. and the ear pad the leather looking plastic covering is all shredding up but underneath it has soft felt so I guess that's not a bad thing. they r like earmuffs now LOL.

Actually the retailers in the USA and Canada cannot sell a region free DVD player but with simple hacks(you can do these region free hacks using your DVD controller), you can make many DVD players region free.

no it's not worth trying to fix these you are better off buying a new one. but save this one for the parts theres goodies inside that are useful like the motors and a laser diode. maybe theres a use for the mainboard. I have no clue.

Sure looks crappy enough to be junk. I guess you get what you pay for. That EN29LV040A chip that had the "3" sticker on it, is a 4 megabit flash memory chip it seems. Type en29lv040a.pdf in google if you want more details, spec sheet should pop up.

I found the mpeg 2 decoder chip thats the largest chip on the board and the EtronTech chip is the DRAM memory and that really small one i think is the RF chip ive looked up the other chipc and thise really tiny chips i dont know what those are for.
i plan to do this, make a stereo amp but i need either 2 mono amps or 1 stereo amp and i need to make sure the PS on this DVD player can handle the current draw from the amp. but im not sure how to measure current draw on a multimeter.
Can you actually see the laser with your eyes, or is the camera just picking it up? I know on CD players the laser beam is usually invisible to your eyes.

If you have a bad DVD, any DVD player will do that.

They have a huge list of DVD players that you can hack. Coby is the easiest one so far that I know of.
BTW, the Coby you had is an old model, get an upconverting one(the latest) and a LCD TV with a HDMI connection.
Funny thing is that PAL DVDs fromt he UK seem to be more cheaper than US DVDs when bought from Amazon.UK. and PAL looks better than NTSC too.
