  • 1:57 sounds like hes trying to stop the people clapping haha.

    Brecker is the man!

  • steeve jobs playing the sax

  • How does he get that thin sharp jazzy tone but I can't??

  • @Holycrap27 metal mouthpiece, hard reed and years of experience

  • Grande brecker!!

  • Comment removed

  • 9 minutes and 28 seconds definiton of real music.

  • R.I.P. Micheal, thanks.

  • Yeah, miss you Michael. Wow.

  • Mortal !

  • Brilliant

  • 5:53 "Quick, cut to a different angle while the god curses his mortal horn!"

  • Beautiful ! How great he was.

    Thanks

  • i found a transcription of a different version of this song, but this version is so much better! does anyone know if there is a transcription for this particular vid?? please and thanks!!

  • where can I get the sheet music for this?

  • Mestre dos mestres !!!Até hj ñ houve melhor esta pra nascer!!!

  • Thanks a lot for sharing this!Mike is sorely missed...

  • I didn't know Steve Jobs played the saxophone...

  • Ralph Peterson !!

    Fkn beast !!!

  • We lost Michael Brecker too soon, but thank god he didn't die as young as Bird, or we would never be able to hear this song.

  • iv watched this video a thousand times , listened to it in my car one hundred times and every time it always results in awe and mass respect for brecker

  • SUCH a groove

  • 6 people don't like beards.

  • @blasticore LOOL

  • FAVOURITES LIST !!!

  • @subframer jeff coffin is no where near brecker, chris potter is though for technical fluency and ideas anyway. brecker was an innovator though

  • Brecker's technique is so impressive, that I feel half discouraged and half amazed when I watch his videos xD

  • @5t3r3054x

I feel the same.Michael Brecker has made Delta Blues almost forbidden for others to play

  • @vivreback I should say that 4 months ago this video was not of my interest to watch, but the second time i heard it, it became one of my most watched videos...It's so sad that Michael Brecker passed away so soon...Greetings

  • @MrDoogie1989 he needed a bone marrow transplant and there was trouble finding a donor with a matching blood type/bone marrow type.

  • jeff coffin is a fine player, but no contemporary player is even in mike's orbit. in consideration of the totality of his force, technical, harmonic, emotional, across essentially all genres of music, there is no one even close. and there probably never will be.....

  • @subframer You got that right. Mike was the best EVER ...........atleast that`s my opinion

  • I saw him live in 2000 or 2001 at the University of Utah when I was 17! Amazing concert! RIP!

  • Bass players face is like... "what is this mofo doing!? gdamn!"

  • Yes, Selmer Mk VI with a Dave Guardala mouthpiece, I believe.

  • Please!! Anybody knows that sax hes playing and his setup? Thanks!

  • @SerginhoD mark 6 with i think a solid silver neck and a early vintage "Brecker" mpc (obviously custom)

  • If I could find a woman who blows this well I'd consider my life well worth living...!

  • 4:46 - that's the kind of face every bassist should have..

  • There is a big hole in the jazz community without this man. I was lucky enough to see him live a dozens of occasions. There will never be another like him, with his command of his horn and adventurous musical spirit. Who will step in and fill the hole...........no one really can...............but keep your ears open for a Nashville player named Jeff Cofin...........he plays with Bela Fleck and has his own band.

  • hahaha, 4:44, the bassist is thinking: "what the heck am I doing here? The knicks are playing tonight..." :D

  • thumbs up if ur a sax player and wish u could play like this

  • @LilmacV2

I'm a guitar player... and wish that I can play like this xD

    man... this is good stuff...

  • I really love this tune. It is funny that one of my full-sized ensembles had trouble playing with 30 people what this group did with four. Oh and at RoGuExXxAsSaSiN, I find it peculiar that the condensation builds up only on Tenor for me as well. I play a saxello soprano and somehow it all ends up coming of the bell, but I don't know where all the condensation goes on alto...

But again, this is probably one of the most complicated songs I have ever heard from mostly one man...

  • best.intro.ever.

  • michael brecker es un genio sera recordado entre los grandes seguramente

  • lol I love the bass player's face on 4:45

  • can you notice his left hand middle finger looks wet? that's moisture that gets accumulated on the high keys, I think it's in the A key, then it condenses to water and start dripping, I was sure I'm the only one it happens to and I was sure I'm doing something wrong... Now that I see Michael "suffering" from the same problem I feel better...

It doesn't change the fact he's a god and I suck...

  • @zivley that happens to me too...but only on tenor, not in soprano or alto

  • @zivley hey that makes four of us with a wet finger!!!! :D

  • @zivley Hahah that happens to me too ! i always thought i was the only one :)

  • @zivley Sometimes I have same trouble playing tenor. Greetings from Spain.

  • @zivley Sometimes I have the same trouble playing tenor. And by the way Brecker was, if not the better, one of the bests sax players in the world. Greetings from Spain.

  • i love this guy is so fuckin awesome :D

  • It is NOT about how fast Michael was, guys. It is about his awesome MUSICIANSHIP.

  • i started playing tenor four years ago, i will still never be able to play this.

  • @lazerfbs never say never, just keep practicing and you can play just about anything out there

  • @lazerfbs well uv only been playing for four years man, iv been playing over ten and im still nowhere near breckers amazing playin

  • Yet again 5 people have managed to miss the like button. People have a steady hand when rating.

  • musical orgasm

  • Coltrane, eat your heart out - we now have a new ultimate master of the tenor sax!!

  • @TheJazz2002 Come on coltrane was still an amazing saxophonist, just in different ways. That is why it is so hard to compare great saxophonists. They are good at playing something, but is one thing better then something completely different?

  • @MichaelSchwartzJazz ok yeah true they are both amazingly fantastic, but i only just found out about brecker, so i guess i was sayin that i have a new favourite tenor player

  • 2:40 holy crap

  • ur awsome man

  • holy shit. what a beast.

  • I know that he was a great player, I know that he's gone, but he was a complete dick when I met him. We all have our moments, but the guy was totally aloof and rude when I tried to say hello.

  • Una de las mejores introducciones que se pueden hacer... ¡Impresionante!

  • FUCK ME SIDEWAYS!......yikes..... What a monster... a "Colossus" you could say.

  • @KrummyBear a saxophone colossus? :D:D

  • @wiesenleger haha, classy sonny joke eh?

  • MICHAEL BRACKER GROUP is the best. i love to hear the piano and the saxophone, i love this type of music is incredible.

  • Que saxofonista incrível!

  • this guy is one of the world's best hope someday I can get to your level

  • Brecker was supposed to stay around long enough for me to be friends with him. Dammit.

  • R.I.P. Mr. Brecker. The world lost a great saxophonist indeed

  • @saxinjax0730 The world lost a musical friend more than a saxophonist.

  • Comment removed

  • 1:42 starts the one of the best musical moments ever made.

  • We all know about Brecker but the band members are also do a proper '' tear up ''. R.I.P. Mike. Never be another. We've still got a lot of work to do.

  • the greatest cadenza ever played.

  • It is very rare to find a saxophone player with a pocket like that. Amazing...

  • OH, those cracks make me so happy

  • RIDICULOUS!!! AMAZING!!! This is what I strive for as a saxophonist. ^_^

  • Brecker was so great! God bless him

  • 2:05 - 2:16

God, I need to learn how to play like that.

  • This actually comes easy with enough practice. It's just a mechanical thing. Now, choosing THE right note and playing at the right time is another thing. MB is great though!!! :)

  • I do not even LIKE the tenor saxophone and I LOVE this.

  • what sax does he have and is it unlacqured?

  • I'm pretty sure it's a balanced action. and the lacquer came off in time. the horn would have already been silver like the color of the neck.

  • mark VI SELMER

  • selmer mark VI and he just rubbed the lacquer of over the years

  • It's a Selmer Mark Six, and yeah the lacquer comes off with time. He added a silver neck to the horn.

  • it's actually a Selmer Super Balanced Action saxophone. BenPowling, frizzal, prechadou and DanielKo09 are all quite close.

It was a Selmer Super Balanced Action (The next model after the balanced action), with a neck dressed in factory silver plate, off of a Mark VI saxophone. So in a way, you were all right!

  • the man smokes!!!!!!

    God rest his soul!

  • 1:42-1:55 scream :D

  • Check out the sax player in my vid response above. Brecker is one of his faves.

  • god damnit michael brecker! i never saw u live! ...and now... i never will :( One of the best. RIP

  • @tmyers08

    *correction "The Best"

  • btw the bassist looks completely wasted at 4:45 lol

  • im so glad i was able to see him

  • ¿Dónde o cómo se consigue este video? por favor, por favor...

  • Fuck.I love him.He was and is best for me.This song is for me musical orgasm.

  • @ThePavka

    that`s an eargasm

  • fucking monster!

  • så jävla rätt!

  • LOL pause it at 9:10

on a more serious note: Brecker is seriously awesome! (it kind of reminds of Bobby McFerrin's jumping around intervals)

  • this drummer is absolutely insane. my god..

  • This is beautiful...nothing else necessary

    R.I.P. Michael Brecker

    You were amazing

  • 100% agree

  • Michael Brecker Lives!!!!!!!!!!!! Joey.Genius

  • dudli dudli dudli du

    dudlidudlidudlidudli

    duu duu dudlidudli

    dudli dudli

  • I concur my good man

  • What mouthpiece did Michael play on? Any info would be helpful, thank you.

  • he played a custom made Dave Guardala or a Dukoff D9 i think.

  • DG, not the Dukoff.

  • he played the dukoff in his early career. The last piece he played with was indeed a DG.

    Dave guardala the scammer bastard.

  • woooooooooooo -----> oooooooow

  • You have got to be kidding me......

  • 2:25-2:27, sick bend

    uhhh i came

  • what a catchy tune ... It can't get out of my ear !

  • I have to say, I've seen Mike Brecker 1 time at Yoshis. In reality this show blowed me away, just the variance in style. My favorite technicqued player, even over or on par with Chris Potter and just the nutty alt-4ths that Kenny Garrett pulls off. I've also seen Sonny Rollins in SF, and my virgin Oakland Yoshis show was Josh Redman. Curious if you guys have other suggests. I love all improv/straight-ahead/bebop jazz I dont care instrument. Im just an altoist ;P

  • What's wrong with Kenny Garret?????????? nutty fourths? Damn man, you obviously don't understand Garrets music if you thing it's all fourths. Brecker is the pioneer for sax but don't disrespect other artist who came after him.

  • Whose comments were you reading?? "Nutty" is a compliment, referring to KG's proflivity of using a lot of alternate 4th's on scales to produce the Egyptian and Asian type minors that frequently mark his compositions and solos.

Sorry but you misunderstood me. Kenny is probably my favorite sax player, and I myself play alto. In fact I've seen KG over ten times at Yoshi's ALONE; more than I have seen any other jazz show live.

  • I like everything in Kenny G except for the way he moves and his style. Seems kinda... uhh...

lame(but lame isn't the word I'm looking for, so it's not SO negative).

But his impros are great and I respect him as I respect any other player

  • Genial

  • unrreal!!

  • Is the beginning of this video the end of his "Round Midnight" solo, and then merging into DCB?

  • Ya I wonder what planet he came from cuz there's no human here that can top that...;)

  • The best saxophonist ever lived on this earth!

  • @jazz054 ooouuuu what about Parker and Coltrane?

  • @jazz054 And what abaout the others Earths!?

  • Brecker is truly amazing. What a band.Joey's solo is phenominal.A very underated piano player. But along with Keith Jarrett one of my fave's.

  • One of my favorite jazz tunes, if not my favorite. Rest in peace, Mr. Brecker; you deserve a good snooze after that performance.

  • Fcukin awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • This tune live is immense.. im not sure the cd version really does it justice :/ i tend to think this about quite a few of his tunes? But yeah...Genius stuff

  • Did you ever see this song live?

  • Since your comment was directed at me, I'll respond to your offense nature. I meant, live as in, in person, not live via dvd, YouTube, etc. Aside from that, there is no reason to insult someone. Why is it that people on this site always degrade others. Shows how very stupid most typical musicians are. They should never chastise someone publicly.

  • Dig the idea at 5.34-5.44! Super hip with sooo much torque!

    Joe

  • Dude, nice tune!!

  • been listening to this one for a long time. Probably one of my favorite performances of Brecker.

  • SWEET

  • the lick from 1:32 to 1:53 is so awesome!

  • amazing.... forever im my heart Michael :(

  • God bless you brecker R.I.P

  • Wow...Michael is the man...intense..YEAH.

  • This guy is simply a genious, I can't help but feel a bit of Rollins up in it though

  • it's is palleggio gianninos

  • OH MY GOD, he's amazing.... truly one of the legends of the saxophone, and one of the many people who give jazz a good name.

  • nice soul coming through the music on this

  • Mike's great as ever, but don't miss the piano solo!

  • you are right. I just watched this the whole way through for the first time. Unbelievable piano solo. I love how Mike is getting into it at the end. On a comic note, look at his eyes, as he's playing the harmonics and overtones at the ending......kinda funny.

  • ma kist enn o PALLEGGIIIIJ!!! :D :D :D

  • Amazing. I'm not really one for non-ringing ring tones, but this song is mine.

  • This is the song that inspired me to play sax

  • 4.46

  • So true.. but don't have a clue about what you're saying :p

  • wow...why the hell am I not practicing right now?

  • How much do you think all good musicians practise everyday?

  • 25 hours

  • while growing up.. 4-8 hours a day.

  • RIP

  • Where and how can I get this dvd????

  • this song was the first to make me fall in love/want to throw away my sax.

  • haha, check out the facial expression at 5:54

  • It's from the album "Two blocks from the edge"

  • 6:01 - 6:07, insane speed mayn!!!!

  • This Man Is Amazing Wow Brecker Legend!
