  • when i sang that song i try to sound like the Temptations sound with Dennis Edwards sound i got Motown fever instead of the Beatles

  • i like both Joe Cocker and the beatles versions of that song

  • Joe Sucker?

  • I love this song...others have tried....but Joe Cocker rocked this song.

  • I just LOVE this song-this ARTIST. He is the Absolute best, along w/Ray Charles, and Randy Newman...just bone chillin, spine tinglin great!

  • sucker. wtf. he is a legend

  • I was watching the original by The Beatles and I wanted to see what this Joe Cocker made of The Beatles song and I am quite impressed. Is still think The Beatles version is better though...

  • She came in the bathroom window., and has been in my heart ever since... Long Live Joe Cocker !!!

  • Joe Cocker is a great artist...But NO ONE can do Beatles better than Beatles.

  • @KREEPNASTY1 Sorry dude but even the Fab themselves were seriously tripped out by Cocker's Little Help From My Friends. Embellishment with love is the highest compliment.

If an artist digs deeper and finds even more meaning in lyrics or tune than the original players, it may be just that - another artist's rendition - neither better nor worse: But in Joe's case he takes Beatle's tunes to a whole new level and I certainly am not alone in appreciating that fact.

  • @SmileyGarrish No need to apologize. And I agree that Joe definetly took a "little help from my friends" to another level..I love his version..I also believe there's some covers that blow away the original,e.g.,Manfred Mann's "Blinded by the light".. But When it comes to the Beatles, A covered song is only a small piece of the whole picture they painted with each album..Besides, Their version wasn't ranked #304 on Rolling Stone's 500 greatest songs of all time list, for nothing....

  • The 1st time I hurd this, I was driftingt on cloud # 9, laying on the floor, between to Hi/Fi speekers, and I swear, she went in my right ear, and went out my left ear,

  • Is it OK that I am just madly in love with both versions? I love the amount of respect you hear in every song Cocker covers. He isn't trying to be a Beatle, he's just singing his ass off & his heart out.

  • I still like the original better, because that's what I've been listening to for 20 something years, that said I think Joe Cocker has done some amazing covers.....I might even like his "With A Little Help From My Friends" better than the original, slowing it down just seemed to give more meaning to the words somehow....anyway LOVE THE BEATLES!!!!

  • @MyFlipperLikesIce Agreed...the original is better, but Joe did pay a great tribute to the Beatles with this song ♥♥

  • Off his 2nd lp, 1969 1st 1968, HELLO!!!!PAUL MC FUCKIN CARTNEY wanted JOE to record thiss!!!

  • Anybody but me tired of DAMN political adds everywhere you go? Stay off You Tube and let us enjoy the music!

  • @gronad, yeah man did this EVER rock the airwaves!!! the BEATLES suggested that JOE record this song! I mean , how cool can you get? Joe wanted to record ''golden slumbers'' and mc cartney said '' youre not having that ''

  • @gronad, yeah man did this EVER rock the airwaves!!! the BEATLES suggested that JOE record this song! I mean , how cool can you get?

  • The Beatles are the best.

  • @1223Melo Paul is the best, this is a paul mccartney song

  • @paolo38021 George is the best.

  • @1223Melo This song was written by paul mccartney

  • @paolo38021 Actually, the Beatles are the best.

  • @paolo38021 I know, but I don't think anyone can say who's the best.

  • i like this better then the Beatles one.

  • I had been looking all over for this title. Founf your posting by accident. Very grateful you posted this. Nice. His vioce fits this song like a glove.

  • Joe Cocker........what a unique voice. One of those great talents whos music seems timeless. I love listening to his music today just like I did years ago. Thanks Joe for rocking us here in North Carolina.

  • Jimmy Page plays the guitar solo just like he did on With A Little Help From My Friends. I have no idea who the rest of the band is. It's not a pedal steel either, more like his trusty Yardbirds/Led Zeppelin Fender Tele with the Hip-Shot B-bender.

  • great acid song

  • I had a girl, Lana.

Whenever we talked on the phone...I heard this =)

    She was sweet but nutty.

In the end I fucked it up, be she was so fun.

Crazy girls make a lonely man happy always.

  • still awesome after all these years!!

  • * * * * *

  • This has Sneaky Pete Kleinow on pedal steel guitar (Fender 400). Nuff said.

  • every beatles tune covered by joe was improved

this bloke's voice speaks to all men

  • nonsense!!! Beatles version is very nice and polished. Cocker's version is all balls and guts:; something all you fairies out the wouldn't understand. They're both good -- just different. My memories of the Marine Corps always bring be back to Cocker. He Rocks!!!

  • nonsense!!! Beatles version is very nice an polished. Cocker's version is all balls and guts:; something all you fairies out the wouldn't understand. They're both good -- just different. My memories of the Marine Corps always bring be back to Cocker. He Rocks!!!

  • hmm..

for those of you want to hear a good version (the oritinal, as well) of this song, it can be found on the last half on Abbey Road.

  • Paul on Bass...Blasts it@@@ man Bong hit an feel this... Joe do it up an kick back an light up insense

  • I have this album signed by Joe himself ,,wow my uncle worked for the label and got it for me.I was a little kid

  • I know this is random, but if anyone could give me the name of the band and the song of this song, it goes something kinda like this: She really lays upon the roses in the shadows, she really lays upon the roses in the night; or something like that, I really don't know, I tried finding this song forever, and never could, so if anyone could tell me the name of that song and the band who sings it, that would be awesome, thanks! :)

  • @123victoriamarie hmm, well maybe , bed of roses by bon jovi, its a bad ass song anyway

  • producer Denny Cordell and Joe ask the beatles 4 some songs P aul MCARTNEY SUGGEST THAT JOE RECORD THIS SONG HOW COOL CAN U GET ?

  • It would appear that most (not all) people born after say ...1970, don't realize how songs were passed around "back in the day". Everyone was singing and covering, moreover playing/singing as tributes to each others works. There was a mutual admiration and support for one another. Part of the beauty of Music is it is not a competition. Well, at least not until the money grubbing record labels and lawyers get involved. Y'know the business part!

  • way better than the beatles' version. hotter. more soul.

  • I just think his Strong Husky voice does this song something good.

  • paul mccartney OFFERED this song to joe and producer denny cordell suggesting they record it

  • Joe Cocker's version or The Beatles version of this on "Abbey Road?"

To me, this sounds terrible compared to Paul McCartney's masterpiece on The Beatles best album, "Abbey Road." Ringo's percussions were fantastic on "Abbey Road" esp during this song.

  • @m2inla

terrible? come on! thats a little harsh

  • People please, I doubt the Beetles even attempted this song after Joe did it.

  • i hope you all kinow the beatles loved joe's music so much they blazed a trail for him here in the states.this song is one joe wrote.

  • that seel guitar gives me chillllls it's so great...

  • I hate to say which one I like more, but man does Cocker gets a hold of this one! There's so much soul in that voice and the guitar work is so tasteful! Its not like he's just doing a cover. Its more like he was breathing a new and inspired life into this already great Beatles classic.

  • Children, children, agree to disagree, and BOTH are excellent!!! ;)

  • clearly this version is much better then The Beatles...has much more feeling and soul...awesome!!!

  • wonderfull voice....joe cocker is perfect

but the original version of The Beatles is still better !!

  • A great ORIGINAL contrib. Thanks for this!!!

  • Not being a Beatles fan I always preferred Joe Cockers version, great song!

  • i can only say i enjoy this version more than the beatles....however i just like the song first day i got abbey road i listened to this song 987676 times it was so good....it's not better than the original it's not worse it's just different and not even by much really

  • How can people argue whether this version or the Beatles' version is better?? Both differing interpretations, both wonderful songs. I love this one very much and always will. 'Nuff said!

  • I actually love both of the versions. I mean, i'd lean more towards the Beatles version, just 'cause i love them :) But this is still an awesome version!

  • The strength of this cover is the vocal interpretation. However if you are not so taken with Joe's version of this Beatles track what is your view of Wilson Picket's cover of Hey Jude?

  • Nice version... but not remotely as good as the Beatles version. Harrison's bass work on the original track is better than anything on this track.

  • @thebleechers I hope people aren't saying one is better than the other, because that's not the intention of this video. I love both for different reasons. However, I much prefer Joe's version because of his voice, like @DickusCopernicus mentioned. Joe has a very unique and powerful voice that I fell in love with after hearing "Marjorine" for the first time in high school.

  • @petesmontreux sorry, just responding to the comment that this version is "better than the original." I don't want to take anything away from Joe. He is a very unique talent and I think he's been very respectful with Beatles material.

  • @thebleechers Right. I tend to see these kind of songs as tributes or re-imaginings rather than straight-up covers. The covering artists realize the greatness of the songs and want to take a stab at it themselves, in a new and fresh way. The best example I can think of is Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Jimi's 'Little Wing', not a cover, but a tribute. And It's incredible. Another good one is Jeff Healey's version of 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', which, IMO, is the greatest 'cover' ever.

  • @petesmontreux and sometimes someone like Johnny Cash takes a song like 'Hurt' and totally makes it his own.

  • @petesmontreux agree 100% Other great examples are Hendrix covering Cream on the Lulu show in the UK, and a really interesting take on Eleanor Rigby by Aussie band Zoot. I think people making those x is better than y comparisons definitely missed the point.

  • @petesmontreux Agreed and thanks for pointing out the tribute aspect of covering a song. And thanks for posting this!

I declare 2012 the Year of Not Comparing Covers to The Original on You Tube.

  • @petesmontreux Well fwiw, I think SRV's rendition of Little Wing is better than Hendrix's.

  • @thebleechers We always , compare , get over it !

  • @petesmontreux

i agree totally, beatles are my one of my top 3 fav's of all time. And i like Joe's Version of this song and help from my friends, he just has the voice that resonates with me, not to say that the beatles dont, i just like his voice on those songs

same with bob dylan, hes one of my fav's but i like dave matthews bands version of watchtower way better, jimi's is better to........................

  • @petesmontreux That is what they are doing, Destroy them.

  • @thebleechers harrison was lead gutiar fool

  • @liamj0927 Depends on the source. Beatlesongs lists Harrison on bass on this track. Wikipedia (FWIW) states "George Harrison and John Lennon both played a Fender VI on some songs which McCartney played piano or guitar... Harrison also played a right-handed Fender Jazz Bass on two songs from Abbey Road." In "The Beatles Recording Sessions" it lists those two songs as Carry that Weight and Golden Slumbers. Harrison had his bass at the Abbey Road sessions, so Beatlesongs might be correct too. :)

  • @thebleechers Actually mate it's Paul on the bass in the original track. But agreed, nothing stands up to the original, but still joe cocker has such a powerfull voice and yuo can't tell he sings with feelling. Very nice

  • @thebleechers no love the beatles but cocker nailed this song

  • @dllsninjaturtle And nailed it he did! The Beatles just warmed it up for Cocker!

  • @dllsninjaturtle saw J cocker in concert a couple years ago and he was great

  • @thebleechers harisson isnt the bass player

  • @thebleechers Yep, George Harrison. The lead guitarist...

  • @thebleechers , you must be on drugs. this is an excellent version of the song. i love the Beatles, and i love their version, but that doesn't make this any less of a version just because the Beatles also recorded it. this is the track the radio stations chose to play when i was a kid. i never even knew there was a Beatles version until i was 20.

  • @thebleechers I thought McCartney was the bass player. Are you saying George Harrison played bass on "Came in through the Bathroom window?" Did Harrison play bass on any other tunes?

  • @JohnnyBadHabit

McCartney did the bass on this song. He was mistaken. George did play bass on some songs, like, She Said She Said and Two Of Us.

  • @thebleechers George Harrison doesn't play the bass on the original version of this song from Abbey Road. Harrison only played bass on a few songs, they are: Honey Pie, Drive My Car, Birthday, Rock'n'Roll Music, Golden Slumbers, and possibly She Said She Said, as McCartney has said he doesn't remember the recording session that yielded that particular song. Paul played lead guitar on a few, as did John (John also played bass on a couple), Paul played drums on a few too.

  • didn't anybody tell her? didn't anybody see?!

  • We're missing his dancing style here! Does anybody know a live version?

  • Awesome lead in the middle of the tune. DAMN !

  • Arguably better than the original.

  • Did he write it?

    -no.

  • No, it's a Beatles tune originally.

You should look up the original, if you've never heard it.

  • @CaptainPillowMusic Arguable but that's all just opinion and preference in the end. McCartney's is still my favorite.

  • @silence286 Hence the word "arguably".

  • @CaptainPillowMusic yeah, and the beatles are my favorite.
