Whenever he messes up - he's able to reload from the point JUST BEFORE he messed up. That;s why it looks so fucking perfect. And before you say it's not TAS - he points out it IS done using TAS in the comments :) So don't feel bad - he's not playing it in the proper way ;)

When I was young I played this game so much that I eventually was able to beat it without losing a life. I would play the game all the way through until I died. Then I'd hit reset and start over. If I made it to 6-3 and died? Reset and start over.

I probably did this 3 or four times. I was pretty hardcore when I was a kid.

@jhajj3 It's all about persistance... after you beat the father and face the Jaquio or whatever his name was the first time you're gonna be too low on health to beat him. Die and start 6-1 all over and this time when you get to the father, he's already dead. So rinse and repeat til Jaquio is dead and when you get there again, you only have to fight the statue demon. Try to have a firewheel for Jaquio. It's sucks his life away. Good luck brave ninja.

Maybe you should have used that spinning sword move on 2nd Jaquio fight, 1st would take less time with ordinary attacks. There are also a lot of places where you could take damage for boost.

Of all the difficult NES games I revisited in recent years to "finish off", this is easily the most aggravating one I managed to pull off (I still have yet to torture myself enough to finish Battletoads). AVGN's review is spot-on. There are a couple spots in the game where you can whore up lives/ammo, but it's that sickening return to 6-1... Only to eventually find out there's a second boss directly after, and then eventually finding out there's a THIRD consecutive boss? Pure brutality.
