Middle Ages plate armour as depicted here didn`t begin to appear until the late 13th/early 14th century, first as reinforcements to vital areas such as the chest and shoulders, and finally as a complete suit (ca. early 15th) The reign of Richard I of England was entirely in the 12th century.

It would seem that research wasn`t considered necessary in 1950/60`s TV hokums.
