I'm 23! Let me just say there isn't even Danny sense in responding to someone that even thinks about comparing gaga to the incomparable Diana Ross! The original diva!
@boltonox great rock artists were not all white. in fact rock and roll started with black artists like chuck berry. The rolling stones were greatly influenced by Muddy Waters
@kylestrangerful but theirs only went to No.19. This version by Diana.went straight to No.1 and really established Diana as a Solo giant. This version will always be remembered and sampled..except Amy Whinehouse(Tears Dry On Their Own) sampled the music of Marvin and Tammis version..it dont matter whos better..fact is Ashford and Simpson were Great to take One song and Switch the music entirely but its the Same Song. now thats genius. Both versions are Good.
@FredericaBimble well, I'm not really a gaga fan and I don't appreciate that you try to insult me. it's not all about the read, just my opinion. sad that you can't see that.
diana ross recored the best cover of nick ashfords and valarie simpsons "aint no mountain high enough".(PERIOD!) i love the orignal 1970 unedited album version the lyrics are a1
no problem a few years ago i delivered pizza to her son "evan" in the hollywood hills i gave him a 45 blank white label promo w/motown stamp on it of diana's love hangover ~ to get signed im still waiting for it haha!
Of course she is fabulous and whether some want to admit it or not they know it. Like Sammy Davis Jr. She is one of our greatest treasures and one of the most consistent artist ever. The talent is huge and the woman has earned it all through hard work and determination. Hopefully we are passing that on to all the young boys and girls who aspire to be something. And just for the record that twirl at the end is amazing.
Just saw this lady last night in Indio, California (September 9, 2011) Even at 67 she gets standing ovations, and that night was no exception. And guess what? She actually sings! No lipsync, no synthetically enhanced voice
Where are all the great Black singers, both male and female gone? Please don't say Shaun "puffy" combs or Beyonce or some other studio tweaked and owned Sony product. People like Dianna Ross and Marven Gaye make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when they sing. Have all black singers just become mumbling rappers or what? that boring rap shit is like 20 years old Where have all the great black vocalists gone too?
@boltonox The Illuminati have deliberately ruined music and tried to kill soul music in particular. They hijacked rap and turned it against the black community as well.
@SmoothCinnamonX Don't know if thats true or not. Great Rock music has disapeared as well and they were all white people! Now all we get is stupid Corporate created performers aimed at 11-15 year olds like that silly little trolip Nicki Minaj and that singin dancin shoe shine boy, Chris Brown! I want REAL MUSIC, made by people who can ACTUALLY sing and play REAL instruments! I don't care what colour they are, just as long as there talent is MUSIC without the need for a computer!
Why do people need to compare persons? Diana Ross is a great singer, but you can't deny the talent others have. This was a great show and she was wonderful. She's as unique as any other artist is.
We have lost NIck Ashford who wrote this song and many others for our Miss Ross. He will be very missed. I hate it when our Motown people go, so many have passed. What a great performance by the greatest Diva of them all.
@nickums69 She is PERFECTION!!! An Awesome performer and I have just got to believe that there is an awesome, quality person behind what we see on stage. Such grace emanates from her demeanor. Beauty, class, sensitivity--one of Thee Best! I want to say "thank you" to her for getting me through some stuff with her music.
This is why she's a star... there are those who SANG better, but few are the total package. Diana is the total package!! Patti Labelle can tear a roof of with her voice, but do you really want to look at her...
@konumers LMAO! I'm a diehard Patti fan, but even I had to laugh at that one. The answer is yes! I do want to look at Patti. Patti is a beautiful woman and she has given us this same level of glamour. Some of Patracia's drag is as dramatic and theatrical as Ms. Ross. The difference can't be explained or articulated. Diana Ross is just...Diana Ross. No one wears a gown, walks a stage, tosses a fur quite like Ross. It's what she was created to do.
@GospelAccordiI >> I appreciate your fandom for Patti, but if you think that Patti is in the same "glamour" catagory as Diana Ross you must have cataracts... Diana is regarded as one of the most glamourous women in show biz history, white or black... Patti is a drag queen, that has had extensive plastic surgery just to look feminine....I'm just sayin'
@konumers Per Webster's dictionary, the definition of the word glamour makes no reference to beauty or looking feminine. It is, in fact, a magic spell or an exciting and often illusory attractiveness. So, by technical definition, as well as your own words, Patti would be considered the most glamourous. But, I love them both, so I'll give both ladies credit for being beautful and glamourous in their own unique ways.
@GospelAccording2ME ... If you have to look up what defines "glamour/glamorous" then you have no clue. Glamorous can't be used to describe Patti Labelle in any way shape or form. Diana is the epitome of glamour, Patti's "glamour" if you want to call it that, is costume-like, you know like a drag queen. Now Rupaul can be glamorous but at the end of the day he's still a dude in a dress. get it?
@doolie50 LOL I'm loving this debate...but we should agree to disagree. I have to ask if you've seen that parody video aboujt Patti getting the BET Lifetime Achievement Award? Something tells me you'd enjoy it.
THERE ARE NO WORDS SHE IS WHO SHE IS AND AND MAKES NO APOLOGIES FOR IT HOW CAN YOU NOT RESPECT AND LOVE HER IR GETS NO BETTER THAN ROSS BEAUTY, POISE, GLAMOUR AND WIND IN HER TRESSES I WAS ONLY 7MONTHS WHEN THIS AIRED AND GREW UP LOVING HER GREAT POST

Me Either. She is Uplifting, Positive, Energic, Beautiful, Artistic and so Much More. Of course, She has her fair share of haters but we all do. I too listen to this almost every other day! This song helps me get through hard and sad times. No one should ever compare the Great Works of this Goddess to the negative; hateful crap promoted in today's Rusty "music" inDUSTrY.
Back then, Positive was Hip. Now, Negative is Hip. My, have times changed, smh
Look at this!. One woman all alone and she COMMANDS the stage and FILLS the FORUM!!!!!!!!!!!!! No useless dancers nothing just HER!!!!!!!!!!. BEYONCE! can you even come close to trying this!????????????
An amazing performance by the Supreme of Music. She can absolutely cultivate and capture you in a blink of a eye. Her elegance is untouchable. Her presence is mindblowing. No one does it like Ms. Ross. Well said, Aint No Mountain High Enough nor a River Wide Enough.
It's simply amazing. No dancers, pilates acrobats, videos or fireworks but Ross is mesmerizing with just some feathers, a few years of tulle and, of course, that voice. She is the greatest entertainer of our time, particularly during her absolute height between, say, "Lady Sings the Blues" and "Missing You".
Thank you NILES... thank you for reminding us what a STAR she was and always will be... Diana something bigger and larger than life... then, now and forever!!!

I love Patti but she is not glamorous.
When she played London the last time, she was like the back end of a bus you had just missed.
And the small venue she played was only two thirds sold, the top tier was curtained off.
She's great but she is not a worldwide superstar like Diana.
She is a fantastic singer but she doesn't excite the way true legends do.
