  • Man, I had one of these gliders when I was 11 or 12. I took it out on a windy day once and it flew up in front of the sun -- I was blinded and couldn't see it. I heard a wooshing sound and them bam, it hit me square in the middle of the chest. It had been in a nose dive with the wind behind it, and it must have been going 40-50mph when it hit me.

I still have a pretty big scar on my sternum.

  • It is a miracle of engineering that the wings didn't shear off. I'm truly curious, is it made out of fucking carbon fiber or something?

  • holy spergin' up in here

  • g forces? I take it balsa wouldn't hold up

  • That was awesome man!! Thanks for posting. I watched it over and over again!

  • How do you measure the speed?

  • @MoJoCooki

Actually it isn't using "thermal currents". Wiki Dynamic Soaring and educate yourself.

  • @MoJoCooki Wow, could you at least do something as simple as just googling it before you make a complete ass out of yourself?

It dynamic soaring and has absolutely nothing to do with thermals.

It's a simple concept, it's real, and even birds like the albatros use it to soar great distances without ever flapping its wings.

  • @MoJoCooki Its called dynamic soaring, not thermals, you are a complete idiot, get back in your sand box and research before flaming. Also the current world record is close to 400 mph. Besides, birds are designed for efficiency and long life, these gliders are designed for fun. And fun they are two, and pay some respect to the pilot here, these gliders cost in excess of £2000, and when they crash, they crash bad. Trolling fail also.

  • It's impressive how much potential energy is gathered by the glider. Great video.

  • Neat

  • 585 km/h

    respect

  • Wow! 316, now that is BLAZING FAST!

  • Good job.

Nice flying of your Scale Aircraft... 5 Stars from me.

  • put a camera on it next time lol

  • How in the world does a glider go THAT FAST???!

  • no this is a glider. the fact that it is not manned makes no difference, it still works the same way. RC gliders like this can go way faster than manned ones so therefore they are better

  • You are certainly entitled to your opinion about which activity is "better" but you have proved my point when you differentiate that these are, in fact, two distinct and separate hobbies to compare.

The description in the tags and text misrepresent the content of the video. You are not "soaring" majestically above the earth, your feet are planted firmly on the ground while you operate a toy replica with a remote control. A six year old can tell the difference - please tell me you can.

  • the word gliding refers to the plane, not the person in it. the plane is soaring majestically, the person is simply encumbering it, impairing its flying abilities. unmanned flight is the future

  • Really holding on tight there pal.

It would be laughable to claim a world speed record while operating a toy car or boat and then post it here with misleading tags to attract race car fans or power boat enthusiast to watch your completely different hobby because of a delusional belief they are "the same"

Accurately describe the hobby you are posting you won't get comments of frustration from people like me that did a search for soaring and end up being rick-rolled by your video of a toy

  • I think you've got a few serious issues. Nobody is claiming that they are the same as a manned aircraft but it is still damn fast regardless. Get over it. Its still pretty amazing.

  • oh I may have a "few issues" but thankfully one of them is not willful delusion.

its so "amazing" that in the last 9 months a whole 2,051 have ran out here to view this toy break the record - good job. Wonder how many were looking for real gliders.

  • Get over yourself.

Stop acting like your above everyone else here.

It's called DS, one of the hardest to fly forms of R/C, I fly both R/C and full scale and I can tell you these "toys" are much harder to fly.

  • well umm... technically, if I were in a "real" glider I WOULD be "above everyone else" standing on the ground with their remote controls, now wouldn't I? ;-)

Please go back and read all of my comments. Notice that my frustration is with the person who uses misleading tags to describe his video.

  • Too bad I guarantee you haven't been in one.

The fact is this is not misleading.

  • nice try - I would invite you to ride along in my S10-vt but I don't get along with wannabes

  • i agree with gliderpilotrr and magictimevideos, shut up you don't know anything.

  • I was kind of hoping to not have to read comments by a moron. Thanks for wrecking the experience for me MagicTimeVideos..

  • that comment was probably clever the first time you saw it but try to be more unique with your trolling, k?

  • This comment never had such a moment. LOL

  • ???

  • Your comment about my comment moron...

  • @MagicTimeVideos It is not a toy, at first. Radio control soaring is actually a sport. Yes, there are specific rules and specific tasks and many classes of R/C soaring. And, as far as i know, dynamic soaring is only done by R/C gliders, as long as the G forces and the loads on the wing are too great for a full scale one to handle without breaking. So, it's not really a toy, and if you don't believe this, try it. You will be surprised when you fail to control a simple trainer.

  • @YeahYeahYeahs8

I agree with you that operating a radio controlled toy is a fun hobby for some that requires a unique skill set. As my previous posts clearly indicates, I don't begrudge anyone's hobby, I just don't appreciate being rick rolled by the poster of this video who, at the time of my original post, tagged this video to attract gliding and soaring enthusiasts to click on his video of a completely different hobby.

my frustration is with tom7767's delusions, not the hobby

  • massive glyder mate

  • old record its bin re set but still fast

  • 'grats Jason on a most excellent plane, and John on most excellent piloting!
