  • The music was written by Wardell Gray, and the lyrics penned after his death by Lambert, Hendricks and Ross in the late 1950s.

  • Lambert, Hendricks and Ross were the original artists -- especially Annie Ross. Joni Mitchell was the one who did the cover... (and Bette Midler, and others).
