Until 1:18 it feels like a hard battle has been fought and the objective achieved. From 1:20 to the end feels like another day approaches with other battles to be faced head on and a great sense of hope for the days ahead. Of course this music makes you feel so many things but that's the one that came to my mind at this moment... or something like that. :) Nevertheless, this track is epic, like the whole soundtrack.

Trent Reznor did the Social Network score and is a true master of sound as is Daft Punk. I can't even compare the two scores nor will i say which score deserved the Oscar more. I must say though, as a HUGE fan of both Daft Punk and Trent Reznor's work, we should be happy the academy award at least went to a real-life kick ass musician. Those spineless yuppies at the Academy normally have indy-French asses to kiss anyway.

@Jormungandor Yeah true, also what i like about it is that even though you can tell they've had to cater the film for families, hence flashy fight scenes, slightly corny one liners for the kids etc. you can tell that the writers are f*^&ing genius. Some of the ideas about digitalisation, utopia and legacy as i said in my comment are expressed in a really thought provoking way and it's a good way to introduce kids and people to challenge these ideas without throwing a big philosophy book at them.

"Flynn Lives" - I always though the title of the song was referring to Kevin Flynn, not his son Sam. Kevin had been merely surviving for 20+ years inside the Grid, and by choosing to finally act and confront CLU, he lived (and died) in the process.

Also, the part when CLU realizes what Kevin is doing will destroy both of them and screams, "WHY?!" and Kevin Flynn says simply, "He's my son." gets me every time.

Before watching the film and just listening to the score alone, I have got a feeling that decent competitor of INCEPTION's score should have been TRON: LEGACY, not THE SOCIAL NETWORK. After watching the film, I still believe I'm right!!

SPOILER ALERT...this final scene i'm not ashamed to say brings me to tears every time, it's so beautiful. I love the metaphor of the wise and ageing Kevin Flynn sacrificing himself to stop CLU (who represents the blindly ambitious side of young men) in order for his son to live on and carry on his LEGACY. It says a lot about the importance of fatherhood and reminded me how important the relationship is in a person's life. That combined with this score=a fantastic cinematic moment.

No. He represents the evil opressive/restrictive side of a father/creator. It's Kevin Flynn who created him when he thought it was right, and later, after CLU turned the Grid into a realm of dictatorship and opression and had the isos (= free, pure beings) eradicated, realized that it was a mistake.

@sirjefferson9001 I hear you, although i wouldn't call it a sacrifice as much as maybe a selfless act, or even bravery. Remember she wants to leave the grid, so her actions may be self motivated. This binds the story with old debates about heroism and altruism/ its impossibility which brings a lot of films semiotic meaning under the same banner as comic book theory. Either way it shows the freedom o interpretation within postmodern films- if you can even call it that (oh the fun and irony!)
