In real life Celia Johnson was terribly near sighted and wore eye glasses like coke bottles, that's probably what gave her that adorable vulnerability and far away look,
Did you know that Carnforth train station in the north west of England(the location of the train station refreshment room) has refurb'ed to the way it was in the film and you can go in and have a brew or a meal....
Yes, I want to say thank you as well. This is one of my all-time favorite movies. One of which to see every other year or so. At least for me. In the dead of night I get the blankets out, heat up some cocoa and just have a great time with it. I especially love the Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto #2 at the start of the movie to bring out the dramatic nature of the subject matter.
one of my favourite films of all time. long before my time, but i adore it. i love the 'this misery can't last' soliloquay. a defintive and complete work of art. i wish i was born in black and white.
Celia Johnson said she found Trever Howard dull witted and boring. Unlike her he showed no interest in crossword puzzles where as she was something of a pro. She said she wasn't attracted to him in the least and couldn't understand why they chose him for the roll.
@clazza01 Not true: the good men that are "left" are not drawn to people who judge them without knowing them! I get you have been hurt and I am truly sorry for that. I wish you well.
@clazza01 hateful? you mean tyou have hurt women yourself as you seem to be such an expert on women and their opinions of most men.You are the woman hater!
It's so nice to come across such a generous YouTuber and all the grateful commenters :) so I'd like to say a big thank you as well for sharing this classic. Thanks!
Great classic with Australian Eileen Jocye's playing. But here it has been stretched out to the wrong ratio (widescreen). It should be "pillarboxed" on here (black areas either side of the image). There was not widescreen ratio in 1945.
Thank you so much for posting this! I am always amazed at the generosity of spirit, when people take time to share such meaningful/special snippets from the past! Love Laura's inner voice!
Looking forward to the upcoming remake starring Adam Sandler and Britney Spears (who will dye her blonde hair and even wear panties for the film!)
