Fire works have magnesium in them. u r lucky it didnt blow up, cause magnesium makes H2O go boom on a hot enough magnesium fire. BTW when magnesium burns, it makes its own oxygen, so when a hot magnesium fire is intoduced to water, it splits the hydrogen and oxygen molecules into plain hydrogen and plain oxygen makeing it go BOOM!

Don't talk utter nonsense. How could a metal burning produce oxygen? What you probably mean is that metallic magnesium can react with water to produce HYDROGEN, which is in turn highly flammable!

The reason magnesium flares burn also under water (if they truly do) is that they contain something else, some oxidizing agent such as a nitrate or a chlorate, that produces its own oxygen, in addition to magnesium, just like gunpowder will burn in the complete absence of air.
