@DarkstarNV I guess it depends on what you mean by "popular vote". We have a representative government, so technically you are right. We vote for the congressmen, they vote in the laws. Most people consider that the will of the people. But your missing Dr Paul's point. Its an old debate that goes back to Socrates, Republic VS Democracy. In our case Constitutional rights VS mob rule.

@DarkstarNV The founding fathers didn't see fit to mention democracy in the constitution because they realized that democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on whats for supper and leads to centralized government. And when did democracy ever equal popular vote? When Congress votes on things, that's the democratic process. Dr Paul is right when he talks about an authoritarian democracy.

@HeWearNoShoeshine You would be correct. What you're saying, and you can tell me if I'm wrong here, is that just because somebody gets elected by the nominal majority, that doesn't give the legislator license to enact anything through voting on legislation. There has to be some check on the legislative agenda itself.

@libertyeconomics The best check would be vote them out next time, get someone in who will repeal or overturn the offending law. I agree, our government is not a perfect system, but probably the best. A Democracy would be a regression, a Constitutional Republic that protects the minority from the tyranny of the majority is the way to go IMOHO.
