Darn it, Hayley! I figured we midwesterners could keep this as our delicious little secret, but NO! You had to expose it to the world! Well, actually, my family is from ohio and I guess that's where our holiday tradition of making them came from. They are soooo delicious. I was making this recipe and decided to put the entire jar of peanut butter in the microwave. After ten seconds of erratic flashing lights and freaking out I realized I left a tiny bit of the metal from the covering on the rim.

Guys don't be stupid like me and make sure ALL of the metal from the peanut butter cover is disposed of before putting in the microwave so your kitchen doesn't explode :)))

I baked those for the very first time two days ago. It was nearly impossible to find peanut butter from our local super market :D. Peanut butter isn't that popular in my country. But buckeyes ended up great. My dad loves them now :D.

Two suggestions for your buckeyes: (1) mix the chocolate with parafin (it will stick better to the peanut butter ball, and (2) close the hole after removing the toothpicks for more eye-appealing buckeyes. And although the nut is semi-poisonous to humans (it will kill cattle), squirrels don't seem to be affected at all.

Well, I've never heard them called buckeyes before, but I have peanut butter balls every Christmas over here on the east coast.

I made buckeyes for friends last week! Apparently it's just a midwest thing. It made several friends of mine consider moving to Michigan just for our culinary prowess.
