it helps a lot to start out with about 3 inches from bottom of the deck to your empty hand, then increase the distance as you clean it up.

i thought you're supposed to hold the deck from the corners and do it that way. Much easier.

but it also looks better to do it from the top and bottom when you get good at it. i started on the corners to wich looks fine but top and bottom look better. harder to do but a better look.

no you don't release.You just slightly push the cards up with the thumb and you try moving your middle and ring fingers so the cards spring more or less one at a time.hope it helps.

a much more effective alternative is to put your thumb on one corner and your ring finger on the other and push to the center from the center
