The 1st commercial with Billy Mumy looks like it was done about the time he did the Twilight Zone episodes, the 2nd commercial features the girl who did Lucy's voice in the Charlie Brown specials(she also was on Star Trek) and the boy is Johnny Whitaker- pre Family Affair and Sigmund and the Sea Monster.....
The VO for the Mattel Varoom Bikes is none other than William Conrad. He was radio's original Marshall Dillon on the radio version of "Gunsmoke" as well as the narrator for "Rocky and Bullwinkle". This was years before he was Cannon and Jake and the Fatman.
The boy with the parrot 'grew up' to be Jody; half of the twins in a show called Family Affair. The girl was one of the actresses who played Felix Unger's daughter in the Odd Couple.
@drywits I was getting to ready to ID Johnny Whitaker as the boy with the parrot when I scrolled down to your remarks! We're old enough to remember good TV shows and great toys! I too had a Dick Tracy tommy gun!
Woah! . . Its little Billy Mumy who was in the Twilight Zone episode about the kid with power, who if he didn't like you would "wish you into the cornfield" But he was most famous for being on "Lost in Space" as Will Robinson. .
I recall in the 60's we used to have realistic toy guns to ; "play war" eventually we got it out of our system-Now kids are not allowed , it isn't P.C. - they get their hands on the real ones and this time it aint playing . . .
Talk about bait 'n' switch! The other day I went to buy a Larry the Lion at the lion store. The tamer told me they were "all sold out". Then he tried selling me a three-legged grizzly bear. |:-(
Speaking of bike... i know how to turn a bike into a motercycle.... you jus put an M.T. water bottle between the wheel and the thing thats between the seat. then go on your bike and bike... i mean motercycle
the voice of the lion in the second commericial is mel blanc (bugs bunny). the narrator was the annoying dept. store clerk in many of jack benny's tv and radio shows...
In the second one the boy is Johnny Whitaker, Jody from Family Affair. I think the girl is Pam Ferdin, a later voice of Lucy on Peanuts. She later became an "animal activist".
Our society is way too violent now for commercials like this.
At the age of 13 I had a 12 gauge shotgun in my closet with ammunition readily available sitting on the shelf . In this day and age I would never let my son have access to firearms.
Thank you for the pussification of america to all you liberal ninnies. Boys don't play war or cowboy and indians, sorry cowboy and native americans, because it is not politically correct.
also its johnny witacher from family affair in that lion ad..... the little girl was lucys voice in the first charlie brown cartoons too..... and that was mel blanc voice over...
"snub nose 38" lol a gay lion and a pill popping parrot hahahahahaha the lion and the parrot were dry humping in the end wow and bash the injuries wow
You think this is bizarre, in the `60`s they use to play the Flintstones cartoons and they would have Fred advertising Winston cigarettes, but they called them "Winstone" I mean RIGHT IN the cartoon!
@JamesTKirkCobain well , back in the fifties , odds are if a cop saw a kid that age with a revolver type gun , odds were good it was a toy , by the time the eighties rolled around there WERE young kids with legitamite semiautomatic weapons running around
@jeddah91 not only was he in lost in space....but.....he had an on going roll on one of the star trek series and he has co-written songs & performed with the 1970s super group "America"
It's a global problem, really. I remember these huge racks and shelves of toy guns in every supermarket and toy store from when I was a kid in the early 90's.. Machineguns, assault rifles, rifles, pistols.. really realistic guns too. Well, not as realistic as the stuff in the 50's and 60's, but they usually had no red cap in the end of the barrel and many were made of metal. Then, at the turn of the decade/century/millennium they were gone. You can barely find any toy guns in the shops nowadays.
If I've understood this correctly, the airsoft guns in the US have to have that red cap thingie in the tip of the barrel? We don't have those in Finland. We also don't have Wal-mart, but we do have many specialized airsoft gunshops and military equipment shops.
They put that orange tip on the end because of too many complaints about them being mistaken for real guns - and too many people getting shot in the process
I do realize that, but what I don't understand is how people using the replica weapons like they're intended would get shot? As I mentioned, we don't have those in Finland since the people who might get shot are people holding up a store with eg. an airsoft gun and hence we agree that it's unnecessary to ruin the fun for everyone. I've been questioned for walking the streets carrying an airsoft 1911, but I've just been told to put it in my backpack or something instead of carrying it in my hand.
@stoningtonj Overparenting is a cancer. Nothing is more dangerous to children today than their parents who just refuse to let their kids be people! Parents wonder why their kids always stay inside to play... If mom is going to go with you, there's no point to going outside to play!
