Yes, Sarah owns this song and it is uniquely hers. However, keep in mind that it is an incredibly difficult song to sing. Kelly did a wonderful job. She kept the integrity of the song while adapting the notes to fit her voice. Definitely an accomplishment ^^

Kelly has a good voice, but she doesn't sing this song properly. Sarah sang it very softly (after all, it's about a tragic death from drug overdose).

Kelly doesn't have the vocals for this kind of song. Plus, the piano is so loud in her version, it totally wrecks the songs.

it's the piano player that screws up this version. Someone is pounding on the piano with their heels and falling over it at the same time. Kelly's voice is battling the monkey who sat on the piano stool and somehow knew the notes .

Overall It is a good cover. I would give it 3 stars out of 5.

When Sarah sings it, it's a melody from heaven that can't be touched as if there's God's own annointing on it. She has so many overtones in her voice, and she works all of them on this song.

Kelly's voice is so different, It has a smokey quality to it. There are songs that she could sing that Sarah would sound horrible doing.

I'm not hating on Kelly, but Sarah McLachlan is the only person who should sing this song. It doesn't feel right hearing Kelly Clarkson sing it. When Sarah sings it, I can barely make it through the whole song without crying (memories of a lost love). But with this version...it's just a song.

Kelly's voice is different from Sara's. She has smoky undertones where Sara has more overtones. I think the song is better suited to Sara's voice. However... Kelley recorded this cover before American Idol. She has so much more experience now, I'd love to hear her sing it again, just to hear how much more dynamic it would be.
