My first exposure to this song came via a very unlikely means of being introduced to Ani Difranco: The National Football League used it as part of an ad campaign during the 1999 season.
The commercial featured clips of various running backs -- all of whom wore the number 32 on their jerseys, while this unlikely (for football) but beautiful tune played in the background.
I wonder if I can find it on the internet somewhere.
Grateful for this song. Tells it like it is. If you are person who can love a person that represents the kind of woman this song represents then you are a person who gets it and you get a gold star.
Somebody spare me the time searching her catalog. I really don't need a 'poster girl' with no poster... It refuses to be rock, and it barely passes for folk-country.
I'm not saying she doesn't have talent, but I sure don't see where this lyricist is leading me,-- guess it's back to Europe, see ya!
I'll say this about the song. The music DOES gently persuade me to not hate it, but it certainly doesn't get its tits out seduce me into an orgasmic trance.
This video has been tampered with. There is a green comment box that appears a few seconds into the song & when you click on it you are taken to another video. It is a supposed video of a threatening phone call to a young woman. novemberrain I hope you can get this off, as it totally ruins the beauty of this song.
Absolutely love this song... Ani tells it like it is. " god help you if you are an ugly girl, of course, too pretty is also your doom. Because everyone harbors a secret hatred for the prettiest girl in the room."
I was young when I first heard this song. I'm still young, but a couple of years have passed since then. Now I've rediscovered this song, and boy am I glad that you posted it.
