  • NYDELIG; NYDELIG & NYDELIG!!! <3

  • Ok people, let's make this clear: This song is by Eleanor McEvoy. It was written by Eleanor McEvoy. It was the title track on the album "A Woman's Heart". When the album first came out, Eleanor was unknown, so the song was recorded with Mary Black singing backup.

It is NOT a Mary Black song, but this confusion has followed both singers for decades. For years Mary Black politely refused to sing this song live, explaining that it is not hers; while Eleanor gets accused of covering her own song.

  • Mary Black is performing it live these days. In fact, there is a low quality bootleg version of it from a recent concert where she sings it with her daughter (who sure sounds a lot like her when she was younger).

  • @DoctorMezzo Was this beautiful track re-recorded via Celtic Woman?

  • @supafuckinmingster Yes, Celtic Woman has re-recorded this song of Eleanor Mcevoy's and also a bunch of Mary Black's other Irish hits. I prefer the originals but obviously I'm in the minority on that..

  • It starts with Eleanor McEvoy but "The tears that drip" verse is sung by Mary Black. This is the version off the first Woman's Heart album. It is a duet.

  • No it isnt! If you know Ireland and have been there-you know the difference between Mary and Eleanor. Fantastic memories as this tape was played so much in my radio/tape deck it broke! Was used each night for dinner guests in the main dining room and I never got sick of hearing it. Wish I could transport myself back there,,,,,

  • this is sooo preetty for beautiful hearts of women

  • Superba piesa!

  • Awesome song.*****

  • my heart is low,

    my heart is so low♫

  • why did the Creator / Thingy in the sky / whatever - He / She or It - is - mess up so profoundly - why do we not accept one another without predudice - we need to learn to stop judging each other and start to love one annother - we all feel the pain of living in this all too loveless world .... time to wake up and open your mind to the world around switch of the b**l sh*t box and listen to your heart - All the answers are there - weather you be male or female - great song - No More War.x

  • @55mandreck The Creator didn't mess up ... people mess up because we don't love as was intended. We are a stubborn lot. We think we know better, we get our egos stepped on and turn bitter ... the list goes on.

  • God this brings back memories, this is class class class!!!

  • We must ALL be kinder to each other. While there is a difference in the sexes, we ALL have hearts and all

have a need for kindness and understanding. *****. This is a beautiful song that is done from a woman's standpoint. *****. Thanks.

  • Couldn't agree more, x

  • echt mooi!

    xxx

  • only a woman's heart. so nice song. just i love it .i play this song whom i love very much love u red man(k)(k)

  • cres727 thanks for the reply. As a man, you are so so right on. Men historically do not support each other but find a way to undermine each other or are held suspect for suffering so. This is the competitive world in which we live. Men need to be kinder to each other, yes, but more than that, be the source of strength for each other as women do. In this way, at least men would have a place to turn when devastation sets in (ie, divorce)

  • You do not understand people. Women are way more competitive with and jealous of one another and and can be incredibly backstabbing and spiteful with one another.

  • @thegrizbear Women are much more spiteful and backstabbing than men are.

  • @andcheeky2 That's because many women have issues of being oppressed, sexually exploited & underpaid for the same work as men. These women are often insecure & victimizing other women to act out their own unresolved issues in their struggle for independence- not all women are like this- how many women go around raping men or supporting child prostitution or hiring prostitutes in general? Things have changed in the world but overall women have more integrity than men... yet they often want money.

  • @anglinthemtns Many women in prostitution, recruiting etc also. The most common way for pimps to recruit prostitutes is to use other prostitutes...just part of the job. A young recruit is more likely to trust another young girl/woman ie; prostitute, they are all controlled by emotional, financial and physical abuse and the cycle continues.

Anyway, what is wrong with women having issues w/ "being being oppressed, sexually exploited & underpaid for the same work as men?

    We need $ 2 survive 2

  • A song that is so associated with the 80's in Ireland-doom, gloom, immegration & unemployment

  • This song is just sooo beautiful.....

Thank you, Eleanor for giving this to us

  • Certainly a man's heart can be at least as profoundly bowed and shattered...and his suffering so bitter ...

The difference is that instead of getting the social support and sympathy a woman would get, he is held in derision and suspected for a dangerous creep, by women and even his fellow man... we men must be our own solution.. we must be kinder to each other

  • @cres727 : That was a very profound statement

  • @cres727 ....excellent comment my friend!

  • @cres727 Yes, I agree. Women do behave in a spoilt, petulant manner at times. Please don't let a bad experience turn you against all women. There are some very nice females out there.

  • @cres727 I totally agree with you

  • Comment removed

  • @cres727 I suppose women are the more worrying, sensitive, and interpersonally-affected sex so...

  • @cres727 that's one of the nicest things i've ever read...

  • @cres727 I agree. My bother is a father, grandfather and a good man yet he told me he can't even smile at children, say in a grocery store, without their parents getting upset. Is that something? Because he's by himself and a man. Not right. It's the warts of the world that have bruised it. . .

  • @cres727 - Amen, brother. Well said.

  • @cres727 Or you can take some cement and harden the fuck up. All I hear is "wah, wah, wah, it's so hard being a man. Someone call me the wahmbulance!!! Why can women cry??? I WANT TO CRY, SOOK, SOOK, SOOK!"

    Get over yourself.

  • @URAGR8M8 - Who the hell are you to dictate how we should be ruled by the makeshift rules pertaining to our gender?! Jaysus, save it sister sledge. If you thought outside your enslaved thinking you may get his point, you're acting no more than what you've been told to think "that there is only one way a man should behave". God give us mercy from the bitter and twisted.

  • Comment removed

  • @cres727 couldnt agree more my friend.........lol

  • Agree with daver852 big time...in fact I think men fall harder and farther in love and have a harder time pulling themselves up. Just listen to Frank Sinatra. This is one beautiful song and sang with such a belonging you know she was there....

  • Beautiful song - the voice of an angel.

Thank you. "My heart is so low...as only a woman's heart can know..." ~Roses

  • Always reminds me of my mum this song.... :) xxx

  • A beautiful song. But it's flawed in it's central concept; it's not only a woman's heart that can feel like that.

  • was at the royal albert hall 1991 when this was first sung live

  • ive met this woman!!! and shes so inspiring!!! xoxo

  • Mary Black should also be in the credits for this song: it's a duet.

  • Mum <3

  • i love it

  • It would be GREAT if it remixed to hard rock version singing by Axl Rose or somebody else.

I really think so!! I'd like to try to revamp this song to a rock version.

  • Maravillosa cancion... si cierras los ojos puedes volar...

  • WONDERFUL!

  • You forgot to mention that Mary Black is also singing in this song- she does the second verse "the tears that drip from my bewlldered eyes".... and then she accompanies Eleanor on the chorus.

  • awesome

  • Big music kills a lot of great music like this an Mary Black,The Corrs and more great Irish singers,it's a shame.

  • This kinda sexist D: (I am a women don't be a sexist and assume i'm male just because my mind is open enough to see that this is sexist.)

  • 14 years ago i heard this song.... & still today i adore it!x Reminds me of my mother.... one of the best songs ever written!! xxx

  • hah..my mum used to have it on a tape in the car...all the down south car journeys n on holidays n all ...reminds me of those.

  • gosh this song is SO for me right now... i'm listening to it over and over.

  • Mary Black esque..which can only be a good thing

  • Typical beautiful Irish voice. Gives me goose bumps. Georgeous.

  • She wrote it so this is the way it should be sung and it doesn't get done any better

  • Eleanor McEvoy - only a woman's heart

  • Is very beautiful, it's easy but it's make this song so lovely.

  • reminds me of a time in my life that was soo happy..just brings you back..it doesnt have to be sad..just about the people you shared it with, and they were all wondreful, wonderful souls.

  • Song dat reminds me of my Mam. Beautiful

  • wonderful. I love it

  • Absolutely Beautifully sung, and such simple lyrics every woman can identify with.

    G

  • i loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove this song but its really sad.. but i still thinks amazing.!!

  • Its very sad; ..........

    When restless eyes

    Reveal my troubled soul

And memories flood my weary heart

    I mourn for my dreams

I mourn for my wasted love

And while I know that I'll survive alone

  • Keep surviving...as only a woman can. I liked your coment.

  • Remember this song from 1993, very well one of the best songs to come out that year. So heartfelt and honest. This song didn't get the recognition it deserved. Just wonderful...

  • This song reminds me of my Family.

  • she stole my last name

  • this is Eleanors song written and sung by her. i saw her and Mary Black sing it long and many a year ago in Lurgan??? Eleanor is very talented songwriter

  • this song really touch my heart as a woman after a bad relationship now i move on and found new and real love hope it will last forever i wanna spend rest of my life with him..the love of my life magne@liezel

  • Do you know what version this is? I love this song, but mainly this particular version and I haven't been able to find it. Does anyone know from which album it's taken, for instance? Pleeeaase!

  • Hi - I bought this cd for my girlfriend some years ago. It's quite outstanding.

"A woman's heart" - Dara Dara DARTE CD 158 / contents: Eleanor McEvoy: Only a woman's heart / Eleanor McEvoy med Mary Black ; I hear you breathing in. Dolores Keane: Caledonia ; The island. Mary Black: Vanities ; Sonny. Sharon Shannon: Blackbird ; Coridinio. Frances Black: Wall of tears ; After the ball. Maura O'Connell: Summerfly ; Living in these troubled times

  • I think this is the version that's off her first album (self-titled), released on Geffen Records in 1993. You can tell because the guitars and drums are higher up in the mix (on the Mary Black duet they were drowned out by the strings) and because Eleanor McEvoy's vocal is the main one. The original is unavailable (Columbia bought it off Geffen then refused to release it) but there is a "special edition" with some extra tracks: Market Square label, Cat. No. MSMCD127.

  • brilliant song. very emotional.love it

  • i love the song very much!

  • brilliant song,very touching

  • wondefull song....it's so emotionally sung

  • A beautiful song, I first heard it aged 8, I'm 22 now and it's stayed with me ever since.

  • Used to listen to this song with my love on our boat, never thoughy it would express my own feelings as he passed away 2 years ago. Can't listen to it without crying.
