other then Dwight name me a GOOD old school BIGMAN centre left? and im a Laker fan not Orlando so no bias? RIP the old school! Yao was an amazing talent as was the great Shaq
@moewwe54 A brief career marred with injuries, in which his best years he was maybe the second-best center in an era in which there were absolutely no good centers aside from himself and Shaq does not put him above the likes of any of the following: Russell, Olajuwon, Shaq, Robinson, Ewing, Chamberlain, Moses Malone, Artist Gilmore, George Mikan, Nate Thurmond, Zo, Bill Walton, Parish, Cowens, Duncan (he's a center whether the Spurs pretend he's not), Sabonis, Mutumbo...
@judgelol Don't get me wrong. If he wasn't injured he very well could have climbed up the totem pole of all-time greats. As it stands, he'll get into the HoF simply for being a fantastic ambassador of the game.
@jayjoetube14 I agree with u that Yao wasn't agile but I believe he probably could've been one of best big men of all time in the NBA, not top 5 though. Yao had game.
@magicmc23 yea maybe but, me being a Rockets fan I wanted more from Yao. One thing about him that I didn't like is that he wasn't as tough as he should be, granted he was progressing through the years. If he had a lil toughness to his game then yes I would say he could've been top 5
@Mademan281 i don't think toughness was his weak point. this guy dominated once he filled out and didn't back down from anyone. his commitment to the chinese team as well as the nba team should be enough to make a statement about his toughness.you gotta be more than tough to withstand two ball seasons in one year. the only thing that was wrong with his career was the injuries caused by the nba and chinese teams contributions.
@cimi93x yeah I would agree with that but from a general manager's perspective I wouldnt want to take the risk and having bynum because of all that injuries.
@brian27610 were talking about centers and pf. tyson chandler is a liabilit on offense so its like playing 5 on 4. roy hibbert is still young and hasnt shown his full potential yet.duncan is getting old and dirk and kg are pfs.
@mod4life Are you crazy?!? We have a lot of young people progressing into great centers.. including Deandre Jordan, Andrew Bogut, Demarus Cousins will be good someday same with Greg Monroe, Andrew Bynum, Jokim Noah, Marc Gasol, Al Horford, Chris Kaman is okay, Al Jefferson, Tyson Chandler, Brook Lopez, Nene, Roy Hibbert, Javale Mcgee, you left out a ton of centers my friend
its great to retire at the top of your game then people ask questions like "what could have been" and "is he the greatest?" .....unlike 7 time world champion formula 1 driver Michael schumacher who recently came back from retirement and stinks the place :/ yao looks like a cool guy.

I don't even think Yao Ming should be put before Parish but regardless Yao Ming was a beast and without a doubt a great player. Shame such potential was cut down by injuries.
@GarchompNation yeah man agree on all that including the list although I got Moses in top 5, I saw him at his prime in the ABA which there's like no tape of that day.
Yao unending injuries was Walton-esque... that old man Bill was a very very serious baller smashed up the league real good in his day, but it was the exact same deal, the injuries left it so you only saw the glimmer of what they were about
the one thing thats best about Yao is he never flops as a bigman, all the pussy now flops like hell in the nba.he never backed down from shaq n thats why shaq respect him.but its sad they both retire in the same year
@chester9435 you know its not his knee that's a problem right? he has a hairline fracture on his foot which are very hard to perform surgery on and even if he does come back there is a huge risk of re-fracturing that area. These type of injuries can lead to the bone being even more seriously damaged if additional stress was put on the foot and for a body that big he is bound to put more stress on it just by walking hence the reason he decided to retire.
Damn shaq complimenting on yao that he could've been top 5 centers, thats huge. Love yao, and its sad for his career to end so early because of injuries....

if you want to be a great or top player you have to be healthy..

compare them to jordan, lebron and kobe.. i think some of them are better than these guys.. but they did not match physically.. conclusion: therefore you cant put a great player on the top list if he is lacking on an important aspect of the game..
@KTD82291 actually shaq talks shit about dwight and kobe, but after he talked shit about yao his rookie year he never did again. he gained only respect for yao's game and person. look up the press history, one of the few people shaq reall respects!
If Shaq compliments you, being the type of straightforward person that he is, he's being honest. I really enjoyed watching Yao Ming play back in the days. I was in complete shock when I heard about his retirement. I wish Yao and his family well.
@KDurantula Maybe not Top-5, but "possibly" Top-10 had he Been Healthy. Yao's problem was his health, that was it!
Btw, Yao was a more versatile player then all of the Top-5 Centers you named besides possibly Hakeem. Why? Because Yao could defend, he could shoot, he had an unstoppable fade away shot for a 7'6 man, as well as the Sky Hook! He shot over 80% on the FT line, something that NONE of the Top-5 C's even remotely comes close too.
Health is what dead him in. All the Respect to Yao.
Yao Ming: Top 5 centers of all-time? Even if he'd stayed healthy, I can't imagine that. I won't rule it out because he had a HUGE upside to him, but that's a tall task. If he AND McGrady had stayed healthy, it would be a different story. Top 10? I feel comfortable with that. The reason why even that's a bit iffy is because he didn't have longevity.
If Shaq's 5, there's NO WAY that I can put Yao Ming at 6. He wasn't around very long and had limited success in the playoffs. Shaq has 4 championships and 3 finals MVP's. There's too much separation between their accomplishments for Shaq and Yao to be that close. Hakeem and Robinson both have 2 championships and more overall impact than Yao, so they should be above him IMO.
@vincentrich Whoa, thought this was based on had he stayed healthy. Barring injuries I think Yao would have been up there. If you just want to rate his overall career counting injuries, I may not put him in top 10.
I hear you. Even if he'd stayed healthy, I don't think that I'd consider him to be a slot behind Shaq. He'd probably be one of the greatest big-men of all-time though (top 10).
@vincentrich Well his career it is what it is, there is no going back. With that being said, I enjoyed watching him play. Not too many 7 footer can move like he did, and he was pushing 7'6" which is remarkable. I'd put him in my top 10 big men, but whether it be 6th or 10th doesn't matter all that much.
@KDurantula Russell and Wilt are so overrated. They played in an era where the pace was so much faster, and all around they were sharks in a tank of fish. Everyone else was so much less athletic and shorter that's why they dominated. If they played in the 80s against Ewing, Hakeem, Kareem, Alonzo, Shaq, Robinson, I doubt they would have been as good as they were.
I agree that the 50s 60s and 70s didn't have as many physically splendid athletes, but I certainly wouldn't call either of those guys over-rated. The fact is that every generation is better than the last because the athletes learn from the former top stars and teams' drafting priorities change. If you use the "big fish in a small pond" argument, then you have to call most great players who had a lot of impact over-rated because they didn't have equals during their days.
@therichardchannel By saying that you've pretty much show how little you know about sports and its evolution. Of course players like Wilt, and Russell can't compete against players of this era. But you're missing the point. Players of this generation have the benefit of learning from those who comes before them and improve upon it. You can't build a pyramid without the first layer of blocks. You are judge by how you perform against the players of your era, and how far above the competition you a
@ribnarak ...U Must Be Crazy...Hahaha...Shaq's "Black Tornado" Spin Move & Arsenal Of Tricks Was Crazy When He Was Younger...He Stopped Working Out & Practicing Hard After The Lakers Started Winning Ships & That's When He Started Getting Too Heavy & Having All Those Injuries...
SHAQ MY MAN .......................................Saying the same shit i've been saying for years Yao Ming i've he wasen't injured all the time tha't he would be in the top 5.For 3 years straight were he played a lot he put up these Monsterus stats : 2005-2006 season 22 pts a game, 10 rebound per game, 1.6 blocks, 15 assists. 2006-2007 season 25 pts,10 rebounds, 2 blocks , 2 assists . 2007-2008 season 22 pts, 11 rebounds ,2.3 assists, 2.0 blocks.2008-2009 20 pts , 10 rebounds , 2 blocks , 2 .
When you get respect from Shaq, who in his prime was way better than any of the players today (even Kobe), that's when you've arrived. Even if Yao will never have the stats of Hakeem or Shaq, he still made an impact on the NBA that changed it forever.
YES!!!YES!!YES!!! finally it comes out from one of the best centers of all time that Yao ming would have been top five EVER!!! Everyone argues with me but this is as credible as it gets!! You will be missed yao
Respect for Shaq. Praise from ceasar. Both players are the best in the respective prime. Nobody could stop shaq when he is inside and nobody could stop yao when hes outside. He shoots permiter and threes like free throws. unheard of for a big man. We willl miss them both a dying breed of centers.
yao can play outside?!

Shaq would talk shit about Dwight, Yao Ming, Kobe Bryant, and everyone else. It's what he does, and too many people take it to a personal level.
Regardless, Shaq has respect, and this video is a prime example. He's a great athlete with great class.
KTD82291 5 months ago
@KTD82291 actually shaq talks shit about dwight and kobe, but after he talked shit about yao his rookie year he never did again. he gained only respect for yao's game and person. look up the press history, one of the few people shaq reall respects!

The Stormin Mormon is one of the top 5 centers ever to play the game!
celticslimjim 5 months ago
If Shaq compliments you, being the type of straightforward person that he is, he's being honest. I really enjoyed watching Yao Ming play back in the days. I was in complete shock when I heard about his retirement. I wish Yao and his family well.

top 5 center to ever play the game lol shaq was out of his mind
KDurantula 5 months ago
@KDurantula he "would've" been top 5 center NOT is top 5 center. "WOULDVE"
guitarsANDcars39 5 months ago
@guitarsANDcars39 no he would not kareem, chamberlain, shaq, olajuwon ,russell... lol not close to any of them get real man.
KDurantula 5 months ago
@KDurantula Maybe not Top-5, but "possibly" Top-10 had he Been Healthy. Yao's problem was his health, that was it!
Btw, Yao was a more versatile player then all of the Top-5 Centers you named besides possibly Hakeem. Why? Because Yao could defend, he could shoot, he had an unstoppable fade away shot for a 7'6 man, as well as the Sky Hook! He shot over 80% on the FT line, something that NONE of the Top-5 C's even remotely comes close too.
Health is what dead him in. All the Respect to Yao.
TrueSephiros 4 months ago
@TrueSephiros i say that hes not would not be top 5 why are you talk about top 10 he maybe could have been on that list but that come out of nowhere
KDurantula 4 months ago
@TrueSephiros
The reason why even that's a bit iffy is because he didn't have longevity.
vincentrich 4 months ago
@vincentrich I'd agree with this, I have him at 6 after shaq.
gsvkck 4 months ago
@gsvkck
If Shaq's 5, there's NO WAY that I can put Yao Ming at 6. He wasn't around very long and had limited success in the playoffs. Shaq has 4 championships and 3 finals MVP's. There's too much separation between their accomplishments for Shaq and Yao to be that close. Hakeem and Robinson both have 2 championships and more overall impact than Yao, so they should be above him IMO.
vincentrich 4 months ago
@vincentrich Whoa, thought this was based on had he stayed healthy. Barring injuries I think Yao would have been up there. If you just want to rate his overall career counting injuries, I may not put him in top 10.
gsvkck 4 months ago
@gsvkck
I hear you. Even if he'd stayed healthy, I don't think that I'd consider him to be a slot behind Shaq. He'd probably be one of the greatest big-men of all-time though (top 10).
vincentrich 4 months ago
@vincentrich Well his career it is what it is, there is no going back. With that being said, I enjoyed watching him play. Not too many 7 footer can move like he did, and he was pushing 7'6" which is remarkable. I'd put him in my top 10 big men, but whether it be 6th or 10th doesn't matter all that much.
gsvkck 4 months ago
@KDurantula Russell and Wilt are so overrated. They played in an era where the pace was so much faster, and all around they were sharks in a tank of fish. Everyone else was so much less athletic and shorter that's why they dominated. If they played in the 80s against Ewing, Hakeem, Kareem, Alonzo, Shaq, Robinson, I doubt they would have been as good as they were.
therichardchannel 4 months ago
@therichardchannel
I agree that the 50s 60s and 70s didn't have as many physically splendid athletes, but I certainly wouldn't call either of those guys over-rated. The fact is that every generation is better than the last because the athletes learn from the former top stars and teams' drafting priorities change. If you use the "big fish in a small pond" argument, then you have to call most great players who had a lot of impact over-rated because they didn't have equals during their days.
vincentrich 4 months ago
@therichardchannel By saying that you've pretty much show how little you know about sports and its evolution. Of course players like Wilt, and Russell can't compete against players of this era. But you're missing the point. Players of this generation have the benefit of learning from those who comes before them and improve upon it. You can't build a pyramid without the first layer of blocks. You are judge by how you perform against the players of your era, and how far above the competition you a

shaq was dominant. but lets admit it, the guy barely had any skills. yao > shaq in skills. BUT shaq fulfills his duty as a center way better.

2007-2008 season 22 pts, 11 rebounds ,2.3 assists, 2.0 blocks.2008-2009 20 pts , 10 rebounds , 2 blocks , 2 .
ottomachine23 7 months ago
When you get respect from Shaq, who in his prime was way better than any of the players today (even Kobe), that's when you've arrived. Even if Yao will never have the stats of Hakeem or Shaq, he still made an impact on the NBA that changed it forever.

I think it's quite possible for him to unretire... i hope he does

YES!!!YES!!YES!!! finally it comes out from one of the best centers of all time that Yao ming would have been top five EVER!!! Everyone argues with me but this is as credible as it gets!! You will be missed yao

didnt Shaq say something racist to Yao?
cb4allstar4 7 months ago
Respect for Shaq. Praise from ceasar. Both players are the best in the respective prime. Nobody could stop shaq when he is inside and nobody could stop yao when hes outside. He shoots permiter and threes like free throws. unheard of for a big man. We willl miss them both a dying breed of centers.
