For some decades now I have been listening to this on a steadily degrading cassette. It is wonderful to hear the fullness back again. Thank you for uploading this.
Too bad that the recording is not in the right key (Dm).Is a tone lower (Cm) which means that it´s sounding a bit different, but of course it is beautiful also.
Ciao!
I agree with you, at times melancholy music is precisely what we need most -- thank you for sharing this music of A. Marcello which has helped me on a very sad day.
Luverly! If you're into this, then check out the first movement of Carl Dittersdorf's Sinfonia No.4 in F major (which is listed under the title: C.D.v. Dittersdorf - Sinfonia No.4 in F major 'The rescue of Andromeda...': I. Adagio non molto). And it's definitely one to listen to in the dead of night (And his requiem is pretty damn good too!). And on a slightly different note.....ahem.....check out Mozart's Symphony No.6 if you've never heard it before, and especially the second movement. Bliss!
@malcolmcolemann: The rescue of Andromeda by C.D. v. Dittersdorf is in my opinion absolutely inferior to this magnificent piece by Marcello. It's the vibrato that I miss in Dittersdorf's composition.
@Leviwosc Two words: Ear & Beholder! Everyone that I have shared it with thinks it is v beautiful. & as you may have noticed in the comments on the page, Meyerbeer - who has uploaded literally thousands of classical pieces on to Youtube - describes it thus: "The most wondelful adagio's i know, divine!". I would suggest that if a thousand people who had never heard it - who are into classical music (& even if they're not!) - listened to it, 98/99% of them would love it. As they would Marcello's
Tienen otras muchas composiciones.
athough Bach wrote a version for harpsichord of this concert, it is still unclear and unproved if the Marcello brothers bought the piece from him. At that time, Bach had contact with the italian school and compositions of Vivaldi and others... I would not be surprised if this concerto is a work from Bach... it´s very refined and inspired... characteristic from the slow movements of hin concertos... ir really pretty...
@Wobuzowatsj He says that A. and B. Marcello was two brothers, composers of the baroque age. They was very rich and they bought musics from other composers, and this adagio, that someone ascribes to Bach, too. Many people refer this music to Alessandro, others to Benedetto, but the majority attributes it to Bach that sold it to the brothers.
Well, Portuguese is the 6th most spoken language (more than both French+Italian) in the world, but I will translate. "He basically said that Allessandro and Benedetto were brothers and baroque composers. They were really rich and supposedly bought many compositions. Some think this is composed by Alessandro, some think by Benedetto, but Bach probably wrote it and the brothers bought it from him"- That is what he said
About languages: Chinese is without a doubt the biggest language on earth. Yet it's not the most widely learnt language. Chinese is pretty much useless on all continents except for Asia.
Portuguese is a big language because Brazil is a big country. But besides Portugal and Brazil there are hardly any countries were Portuguese is an official language. Portuguese isn't a lingua franca, like French, which is spoken in several countries.
Yes, I agree with you that French is spoken in more countries (we have more native speakers though). But, Portuguese is the official language in 10 countries and is obligatory in 10 other countries. Don't sell us short :-) au revoir :-)
Alessandro Marcello(1669-1747) Venetian, composed this " Adagio, Dal Concerto Per Oboe e Orchestra D'Archi in Do Minore ". Marcello, baroque musician was also poet and philosopher. Bach divulged it and made a transcription for harpsichord ( BWV 974 )...Italian director Enrico Maria Salerno's " The Anonymous Venetian " (1970) wonderful film included this music.
part of what is so amazing about this piece is that it is not even written by a noted composer. yet even the most insignificant of Baroque composers, still produced such beautifully heavenly music like this piece
