Wow Thankyou heaps for the short film, My 3 year old an i found it to be very interesting as its the start of summer hear an we are finding alot!! of cicada's they freak me out when they fly around but my son finds it funny to see that his mum is scared of a little bug thankyou again my son really enjoyed it.
@xiahnsaya1004 Song? I live in MO. and they just sound like millions of miniature lawn mowers running constantly. They get SO loud at night it's nuts.
I was playing 18 holes and we saw a few scuttling around. I put my wedge back in my bag and one of these babies gets stuck down with it. It was fine and buzzed around a bit. Then, after putting on the next green, I pick up my bag for the next tee box and out he/she flew, scaring the living shit out of me. I haven't seen these things since elementary school. Sickly, I hope a bunch of them emerge. I don't like them, but it would be a blast from the past.
@jjcarter43 The two ideas aren't mutually exclusive you know. Evolution is a scientific truth whether your personal beliefs allow it or not. To deny this truth is equivalent to denying the heliocentric model of the solar system. The idea of intelligent design just does not hold up to any logical or scientific scrutiny.
@tighttritenight religion and science are not contradictory, science is an attempt to explains how things work, and should not be used as a facet to belittle those who want to know why. science is necessary to the advancement of the human race as a whole, but do not deny those who need spiritual beliefs, even if there beliefs force then to deny the truth of how things actually work, because denying those of their beliefs is no worse than denying you of yours.
@rich1051414 Actually, they do contradict each other at times which is a problem. Also, I told the person that the two ideas aren't mutually exclusive.
@tighttritenight my point is to not tell anyone anyone their beliefs are wrong. anyone's beliefs should be treated as being equal despite the amount of intelligence needed to derive at said beliefs. Not following this rule is the cause of so many wars in earths past. just respect someone else's beliefs as you expect someone to respect yous(whether they return the favor or not). Doing this says more about you then any words can.
@Shaheer2095 really, wasting your time to wrote all this ? sorry if i spell dumass wrong in no an american ignorant like you. My point is, human race think the earth is our but its not the case, we share with other living thing and we should respect them all.
lol makes me happy now that its pretty cold where i live lol either way i would just go outside with a flamethrower and light it up if i had to deal with them
I just moved to Cookeville Tn from Vermont and oh my god these fricken things are annoying....why couldnt I have waited until next year to move....lol...
does anyone know how smart these are? some say all animals are smart, or in their own right. we thought farm animals are dumb and then there are crows.
and some insects are smart, and then you have fish who learn.
Nova, the show needs to do show on arthropod intelligence
I noticed that there is a bug make sounds right before the rain comes. My parents say they can tell when the rain is about to come, much like how animals know when a tsunami is coming. I think it is cicadas, I'm not sure, but I agree with you, I'm surprised that it's a mechanism to attract mates. I always thought there was a connection with the coming of the rain...
