Had it not been for her classical training and virtuoso she wouldn't have been to leap into other genre with such ease and grace. She,like all great artists, refuses to be one dimensional and rightly so.

She's a pop musician. In the classical music community she is roundly ignored; she's a mediocre talent and is not even considered part the classical genre.
Well, that shouldn't come as an surprise to nobody I would assume. I remember back when Yanni was still hot, some people commented that five month Mozart could compose better music than Yanni did. If you listen to Mozart's music, you would realize that's probably not really an exaggeration. Seriously, classical musicians were just freaky geniuses. It's hard to compare a bunch of pop icons who sell sex as much as music them.
Thats a huge load of bull poo. Granted, what she plays has little to do with classical music but the people talking smac about her talent seem to forget taht when her first (fully classical) album came out she was heralded as the new Mozart. The classicsl music establisment has a different taste in music and does not like what she plays on a violin and as such ignore her but she is nevertheless extremely talented and very VERY few people can even attempt to play what she plays.
lol@polymath7....it's the similar as we saying those top pros in the classical community, are not even respected or even known in the modern pop music community. And we don't give a damn about them either...we learn about violin music and become interested in it through Vanessa mae's music and her rendition of other musical pieces. And most importantly, we love it~! =)
She doesn't just demonstrate energy in her music talent, but also in her character. Look at the energy she's displaying in this interview, it's utterly awesome!
You have done well with the talents you have been blessed with, keep up the good work and never forget the fans!
Well, she has accumulated a vast fortune of $64M, and I think she deserves every penny of it!! She has collaborated with world-class musicians such as Vasko Vassilev. I also loved her technique when she played Bruch's Scottish Fantasy. She's an AMAZING violinist, my favorite!!
Her British accent is due to the fact that she was born in Singapore(Thai dad, Chinese mom), but she was raised in London.(just in case anyone is wondering...) I like the concept of a violinist and guitarist collaborating with each other, that would sound very nice.
she was born in singapore to a thai father and chinese mother. their parents got seperated and her mom remarry an english man. they moved to england when she(vanessa) was 4 years old.

No, not by a long shot.
As I said, she's a pop musician. This woman is to classical music what Stephen King is to literature.
