  • does anyone know the name of the song hes mixing at 4:22?

  • I don't think it's Ableton, he uses, but Audio Mulch and Adiobe Audition.

  • lol guy at 3:40 got cut out... loosur

  • @irrelevantjoker not at all. his set up is two lap tops running ableton and throws in samples on the fly. I stood behind him at one of his shows. crazy.

  • idol

  • my name is greg gillis this bastard stole my name

  • @gsmooth88

    assed?

  • @irrelevantjoker He does alot more than just hit play. He is mixing and mashing up right there.

  • @irrelevantjoker You're missing out. Watch some of the videos of his shows. It's like being at the best club you've ever been to.

  • calm the fuck down. I was just being goofy.

    God damn.

What's your problem man? I just said the joke. I thought it was a funny reference to the word "remix" by him remixing music.

    Get it?

    Jesus fuckin christ.

  • What program does he use?

  • @Compwizreview Adobe Audition (Cool Edit Pro)

  • mitch hedburg

  • I like it how he's so calm in the interview but then on stage he goes apeshit

  • Finally nerds get what we deserve!

  • And that's how magic is done.

  • Closest I can compare him to is "the Go! Team". Their music is a creation made from samples, but in a more focused manner. I consider their music new Because they keep to a theme, they dont resort to melodies from within the music industry itself, they add their own ensemble of instruments, they make albums in its entirety and though the sounds are familiar, the road travelled is a completely new one.

  • And then there are those who say he is making new beats. Some of the stuff he samples is changed beyond recognition but I dont think anyone listens to his music for those snippets of creation. I think people go to hear him for the familiar melodies he throws around. He has master skills and he samples a high volume of sounds in a short space of time which makes it harder to realise this. But at the core of this music, it is still the melodies by other people that gets the listeners off.

  • I dont know.. I respect his skills... but what he says has an air of bullshit to it. He isnt creating new ideas. Ive heard comparisons to Andy Warhol, but mixing two songs because they share a great beat is not the same pop sensibility. Andy Warhol froze pop culture in time with a deliberate perspective. You go to one of Girl Talks shows and you see the way he just loops different beats together in different ways and its cool. But its not a one piece expression of art. Its just mixing.

  • i think he's moving close to breakcore... but he's using shitty mainstream music (IMO) ... he's talented, but i dont' think he'll be respected for his work in 10 years just cuz his fan base are absolute RETARDS!!! ---DJ Oxygen

  • LOL WAT A NERD. But his music is awesome

  • he looks so different now with long hair and a headband

  • what song is at 2:02?

  • i eat at that primantis!

  • 3:44 What remix is it? i GONNA Find it!

  • he's hot

  • Hey is does anyone know if girl talk is done like no more albums? :(

  • @st00pidness He's currently working on a new album.

  • @st00pidness he has another one coming out at the end of this year.

  • @st00pidness stoopid you sound stupid! lol

  • He looks a lot like Dexter Morgan(Michael C. Hall). This guy's music is great.

  • is girl talk from virgina or maryland?

  • @IneedTodisco Pittsburg

  • @IneedTodisco Pennsylvania

  • wow gregg is a much more intelligent guy then i had judged him for.

  • If that were the case many more would have already claimed this fame already. I respect all artists, in all genres of life. 4) Feed the Animals was number four on Time's Top 10 Albums of 2008.[11] Rolling Stone gave the album four stars and ranked the album #24 on their Top 50 albums of 2008. Blender magazine rated it the second-best recording/album of 2008,[citation needed] and NPR listeners rated it the 16th best album of the year. I know very few who will ever accomplish that success.

  • 3) Add to the fact that more individuals own a computer as compared to any other instrument across the globe, must say that his creations do stand out for a reason. It should show how much time and effort he places into something he loves. Just like the iPod, we must remember that because mashups are relatively new, does not mean someone should criticize them. In a way that's like saying that anyone can bang two sticks and become Travis Barker.

  • concerned I assume many more individuals will begin/ continue to create, manipulate, and even share music ideas. The One thing I know is that when you decide to attend a computer mashup "Concert", you shouldn't expect to be as visually excited like many other bands or artists, you will however be able to look around and see hundreds/ thousands of smiling faces dancing to music that spans all genres.

  • of a song. 2) I have been to numerous Girl Talk shows in clubs, auditoriums etc, and visually he has much less to offer than Metallica or Radiohead who do not prerecord their music. However, his number one priority while performing is audience involvement. And because of this, everyone that attends his show feels enthusiastic on the music being played. It can also be said that for a ten dollar ticket, one could never hear the amount of songs in one night. As computers and the internet are..

  • To: SatanJesusBandana666

To add to an educated debate I must comment on a few things. 1) As art is defined in the dictionary, Girl Talk does in fact interpret his thoughts, feelings, and viewpoints on his musical interests and express them in a new manner. No different then a DJ or any other musician. Set sounds that have already been made by Fender etc. are rearranged to your create something new that you may enjoy. However instead of just one sound Girl Talk can manipulate all aspects of...

  • @Dudes That Are Complaining. Girl Talk/Greg Gillis Is An Amazing Man That I Fully Support And I Am A Big Fan Of Multiple Types Of Music. He Is The Only Techno I Like, And I Dont See Why You Must Complain On Such A Level If You Arent Producing Music At The Same Quality As His.(Perhaps You Are). Though They Are Mashups, They Still Require An Insane Ear Of Pitch To Tell What Goes Together And What Doesnt. He Puts On An Insane Live Act And Deserves A Lot Of Respect. After All, Hes Just Making A Life

  • Firstly I dont think what he does has much artistic merit. They're mashups that don't seem to have anything to say outside of the fact they are mashups. The medium is the message etc etc.

Secondly, to refuse to pay for the material he uses and yet expect to get paid for it himself, is more than a little hypocritical.

  • Also, why would anyone pay to watch a guy leaned over his laptop clicking away at something you can't see? "I hope it gets on a table and claps his hands that would be totally rad!!"

  • @SatanJesusBandana666 Well yesterday I saw Girl Talk at the Gold Coast BDO in Brisbane and the mix was awesome and he did get up on the table. It was the highlight of the day.

  • I'm glad you had a good day. That's the point of music. But honestly, have you ever heard one person sing or play and been mezmerized? Completely captivated? I don't get that here. I'm not saying it's not a fun, good time. I just don't see this in the same light. I see a guy that can manipulate a computer, and that doesn't excite me. BTW I love that actual people made real arguments. Continue...

  • Thanks ok, good points. Since 1982 when I first saw Devo and Ultravox, I know they both have drummers, but using drum machines, and having seen so many artists use laptops it has not worried me, I enjoy the music. If his career does not last that will happen, I guess I just liked the idea of mixing others stuff. Captivated - in that moment yes, but your point about manipulating a computer, well that is true for sure. Good debate to have.

    Michael - Australia

  • saw girl talk in sydney big day out last week....bloody fun to watch and to dance too. i usually dont listen to dance or trance or tehno but this is the only dance i can listen to mainly for the fact its cleverly mixed he is fun too watch he pumps up the crowd gets people on stage and generally has fun with the crowd.

  • @SatanJesusBandana666 If you're spending more than 5% of your time at a Girl Talk show watching him on the lap top you fail at partying.

  • does anyone know where i could download the Brazilian remix of "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley

  • i would love to be girl talks neighbor

  • Girl Talk is the greatest... and he's a PC bitches...

  • Is that the Oakland Primantis? The one right on campus?

  • Yeah. And Warhol was not an artist because he employed pre-existing commercial art in collage.

  • I agree

  • I too agree.

  • Shut the fuck up.

  • fuck your mother. enjoy your "laptop musician" maybe one day that's all there will be and real, ya know tangible music, will be rare. I don't really have a problem with a remix here and there but that's all you do? fuck off. I will head butt you to death. this guy is a pussy, i hope you all paid too much too see this douche. And by the way Warhol is shit.

  • Again,

    shut the fuck up.

  • uhn tss uhn tss uhn tss. again, fuck your mother. pussy. make an arguement, defend your thought. grow a fucking backbone bitch. fucking dingleberry jackass son of a bitch. your a dripping pussy, eat shit, die.

  • I wish you could see how hard I'm laughing at you right now.

  • Well it has become abundantly clear that that's all you're capable of. nice burn. I was hoping for some sort of debate with intelligent points on both sides of the argument. But as far as I can tell you have the intellect of the shit I took this morning. Congratulations, you are the reason I hate this music.Because of the idiots that listen to it.Playing with glow sticks and dressing like a twat. This fan base is dumb. Stop taking so much x,maybe then you can put more than one sentence together.

  • I'm not really sure where I fit, since I play guitar and love Girl Talk, but doing what he does is hard. Have you ever tried to make a mashup? I have, and it's hard to make them really good. Same with guitar. I consider him an artist.

  • I have toyed with ableton and yes one could even argue that it's like practicing an instrument, a real instrument, like a guitar. But it's just not. Anyone that knows how to beat map and pitch shift can make a mash up. And honestly you could figure it out in a pretty short amount of time. Then just follow the fromat: intro, build up break down, build up, etc. I think this is genuinely gimicky and this dude will soon fade into the abyss of laptop musicians.I'd say nerd, but artist is a stretch.

  • I think the hardest part is finding songs that go well together, which he does extremely well. To each his own, I guess.

  • artistic nerd i rekon. he is obviously clever with what he does. to mix that many musicians/beats/vocals and to have them all mesh like he does is clever imo some people dont dig it but i do. i dont consider him a musician no ive always said a musician PLAYS the instrument and actually sings. but he is fun too watch and i find it fun to try and pick out the different artists he has put into his mashups....and i think thats what alot of people love about it

  • sound crack thats what this is remix is the future

  • is polish hill a good area for a musician to live?

  • "is legit"

  • Comment removed

  • so good

  • Greg is my Hero!

  • Fucking love his stuff. Got to see him live at IUP last year and flipped shit the day before while all my friends were just going "wtf?"

  • Then make some music better than he does. I'll be right here waiting.

  • no he doesn't. he does have pre-created samples, but he mixes the entire thing and puts the samples together live. basically he just recreates every song at his concerts and changes things around each time

  • i saw him on stage (i was next to him, he lets people party on stage with him) and what he is doing with his laptop is making the music mixes as he goes along..

  • Primanti's!!!! This guy is rediculous.

  • i love love love girltalk!!

  • and also I believe that he is using Adobe Audition

  • He's gone on record saying that he uses Adobe Audition and AudioMulch

  • nah the original primanti's is in pittsburgh

    amazing stuff

  • Any idea what software he is using there? I cant make it out

  • uses cool edit pro to cut up the stuff but then puts it into something else that i dont know sorry

    x

  • he uses adobe audition and audiomulch

  • oakland primanti's?

  • I think so too... Def looks like the Primanti's on campus.

  • Gregg Gillis is god.

  • I remixed a remix once.

And it was back to normal.

  • lol!

  • Mitch Hedberg

  • Nice.

I remixed a remix of a remix, and then I lost track of what was normal, good, bad, right, wrong, blak, white.

It all just got too much and then my face melted.

  • @Forora Mitch hedberg.

  • @AshlynBrookeworm Mitch hedberg
